I think when you can see your intrusive thoughts pass by with lesser and lesser anxiety. This is what I think progress would look like.

OCD is not curable. We have to live this for the rest of our lives. All we can do is to learn to manage it using therapies. Though i haven't made much progress in my OCD. And i know it's debilitating. But we gotta try.

I don't want to live with this. I'd rather die.

No i am not comparing the type of OCDs, i was just trying to make a point that every attraction is not sexual. You get attracted just because it's attractive which is not sexual. Though i know this fact i still suffer from Gay OCD.

For me when I did it my anxiety slowly lessened. The thoughts definitely didn’t but my anxiety did, and that scared the shit outta me. But the more you do it the better you feel, and yes not having anxiety was probably the worst part of it all, because when I had anxiety it helped me know the thoughts weren’t true but once my anxiety stopped I started freaking out. That’s a normal part of recovery, because I went through it. And guess what? I’m better now so keep doing what you’re doing!

Also I just want to say that you can’t just stop ocd like you want to, it’s not possible. But with time it can slowly fade away, I understand it’s very hard but you can’t just stop it. That’s not how it works, trust me I wish that was how it is, but sadly it’s not. It might feel like nothings working but it will work you just have to keep pushing, and if you think nothing will work you really won’t get better you have to push. You have to try or you won’t get any better.

There's also a tedx video by Jay Thadeshwar. It's a 17 min long video. Other than ERP he also tells other tools for living with OCD.

None of that will help. I need a permanent cure and I also need selective amnesia.

Well then that OCD monster of yours will win. The only thing that scares that monster is your hope, your efforts.

I have neither so I'm satisfied with letting it win.

See the what happens with POCD is mind tends to put every kind of attraction in the bucket of sexual attraction. You being attracted to someone doesn't mean that you want that thing/ person sexually.

it doesnt matter. My credibility is destroyed, I live every day in pain and anxiety, you're telling me theres no cure, no one would believe I'm not a pedophile if they knew the full story and it's like....why even be alive at this point. ERP isnt working, therapy isnt working, nothing is working

Your OCD has 0 character indictment in it. Being gay isn't amoral, being a pedophile is. If you're seen as gay it wouldn't mean you would be seen as a bad person, meanwhile I'm going to be lumped with literal child molesters.

First of all you are not a pedophile. You are scared that you might be. And that might be sucks everything. You have a mind with OCD. Hypersensitive to every weird thought.

Whos gonna believe that I'm not a pedophile? Besides my close friends and a few people with OCD, nobody else would

@Vimli Maybe if you helped them understand OCD better they would believe you.

@Vimli Having these thoughts is not a crime. Thoughts are just a consequence of having this super complex thing called brain. Brain presents you with thoughts which may have countless, conflicting meanings which are not worth pursuing.

You don't enjoy 'those' sexual fantasies. You are scared with the possibility of having them.

Can I hear some examples of specific parts of ERP that has helped you? I've been doing talk therapy for a few years and the major issue I have with it is that I already have analyzed all of my problems from every angle, so I'm kind of just sitting there yapping about it for an hour. I need solutions and things that make me feel better.

During ERP, we learn not to analyze thoughts, not to analyze feelings, obstacles, ideas, commands... because it's all an intrusion and not real. However, it's too difficult for me, because every time a picture comes out, it's all detailed and even with a sound in my head, or an urge, or an idea... to "leave" it like that and I don't come back... is that the case with anyone else? and does it ever pass? Thanks in advance

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) isn't always easy, but as one of the most effective treatments for OCD, it's worth it. If you've started ERP, what has been the biggest surprise you've experienced in learning to resist compulsions? If you haven't started ERP yet, what is holding you back from starting?
