Hello, I am currently taking 50mg of Zoloft daily and have been for the last 2 weeks. I will be upping to a much higher dose in the future but am wondering if anyone prescribed this has noticed improvements with ocd symptoms, im trying to have hope but I’ve heard bad story’s with Zoloft and have been obsessing over if it will harm me more than good.
I’m taking the same medication and dosage as you but for almost 7 years. I’m positive my OCD was misdiagnosed as general anxiety. Zoloft has ever only helped with my depressive symptoms. But the obsessive thoughts and compulsive urges never went away unfortunately. I’m starting to look at different medications to switch to. Hope this kinda helps!
@madsp923 That’s great to hear it has helped with depressive symptoms but super unfortunate it doesn’t help ocd symptoms :( I was also misdiagnosed with “severe anxiety” until I felt comfortable sharing alot of my ocd symptoms (as they were “magical” and I had a fear of speaking then into reality) and got a diagnosis just a month ago. Thank you for the info I appreciate it, and I will definetly look into other medications as well!
@veejohanna Of course. I’m just now coming to terms with the possibility my anxiety is actually OCD. I’ve been in denial about it because I thought that I wasnt that “crazy” to have it. People always have just told me it’s my anxiety, but it feels like it takes over and consumes me you know? I haven’t told anyone in my life yet about my possible OCD because my symptoms are never validated. OCD makes me feel so isolated from everyone else
@madsp923 I completely understand the feeling your describing and personally i don’t feel very “crazy” it’s weird for sure and the biggest sign for me to get help was it affecting my relationships, school, and work life (because of contamination fears and constant compulsions, consuming my mind and making basic tasks near impossible) if it’s something that you experience daily and can’t shake off your mind, to a point it causes the anxiety is when you know, keeping it inside and bottling it up was the worst thing I could’ve done, once you talk to a psychiatrist and get to the bottom of it it’s the biggest relief especially if you don’t talk about it much. I hope you can feel better about it and get any help you need!
Hi! 31M here. I am now on week 7 of Zoloft and we’re upping me to 75mg now (I also take Mamantine which serves as an augmentation) unfortunately it has not stopped the OCD (exposure therapy is best applied here for that) but it has significantly cut my anxiety and panic attacks down by at least 50%. Still semi- depressed but that’s also improving the more I stay active. Still struggling terribly with my social anxiety but one step at a time. The best you can do is follow your psychs instructions and then keep practicing living in uncertainty. “Maybe it will, maybe it won’t” type of mentality and thinking. Whether it’s working or not, you can still live your life! It just takes time and effort like all things in life. Rooting for you, rooting for us.
@Anonymous Hey, Im glad to hear that it works for your anxiety and panic attacks, hoping for the same here! The OCD part is definitely the hardest, and I’ve been hesitant on exposure therapy dimly because I fear it won’t work and will be a waste of money, but I know learning to sit with the fear is the biggest step in treatment. I’m trying to just trust the process and follow my psych’s plan too, I’m upping to 75mg in 2 days but I have noticed I feel a bit cracked out lmao. One step at a time for sure, Rooting for you right back.
My psychiatrist said that zoloft only relieves ocd at around the 100mg any less wont do much. I have to agree with her on this at 150mg my intrusive thoughts are significantly less than before. I still get intrusive thoughts (esp around my period when zoloft is less effective) but it helps me cope with them
@Urmom69420 This gives me so much hope, I was told the same I’m just super impatient and overly concerned about side effects/it working. I’m upping to 100mg in a week or two and hoping it can dull the compulsions and anxiety around them. I feel you on the period part, I notice my symptoms are amplified around then and it’s hell.
@veejohanna Def tell your psychiatrist/pharmacist about the period thing! Sometimes its ok to take a little bit extra Zoloft on ur period if your doctor says so. Personally I also have bipolar so don’t do this to prevent a manic episode, but if you don’t have bipolar its worth a shot to ask ur doctor
@Urmom69420 Yes, same here. I started low and went up because for OCD it needs to be a higher dose around 150-200mg. I am on 175mg Zoloft now and it has helped lessens the intrusive thoughts a lot and ERP is something I practice everyday. Around my period it seems to go up slightly but so much better than I was a year ago. It takes time to retrain the brain and sit with uncertainty.
I was on Zoloft for around 2-3 years and it did help with ocd symptoms a little bit for me. Not fully but definitely had improvement. I went off of it though because it made me numb to my emotions and I didn’t like that. But it has different effects on everyone so it’s good to try it out!
So my doctor is starting me on 25 mg of Zoloft soon and I'm actually really exicted. I'm finally ready for this to be manageable. I know it's not a cure but I am told that zoloft is primarily recommended for specifically ocd. I'm not sure if I'm ready to start it tonight but yeah. Please do not tell me any negative side effects or anything related to nausea since I'm taking it for emetophobic contamination ocd and I don't need any opinions to make me biased but if any of yoy had SUCCESSFUL zoloft stories please comment!!
I’m thinking about starting sertraline (Zoloft) soon. What are your experiences on it? Is it worth it? I mainly wanna take it for my social anxiety and intrusive thoughts. Depression isn’t a problem I face. What dosages are you on? Are you happy with it?
I was recently prescribed Zoloft for my OCD and GAD. I was started on 12.5mg once a day. I’m really nervous and I’d love any good advice. I’m scared of gaining weight and becoming numb (what I’ve heard on tiktok). Is 12.5 or 25 mg enough for one to feel numb to emotions or crying?
