For those who have deleted social media
For those who have deleted social media, how is life like now? Has it helped with your journey with OCD or hurt it? What are the pros and cons?
For those who have deleted social media, how is life like now? Has it helped with your journey with OCD or hurt it? What are the pros and cons?
My mental health is so much better without social media. I don’t feel like I’m missing much. It is important to join like a community who has similar interests to replace social media like joining an art studio, or something
Life is alot better without social media. It’s an adjustment but it’s just better.
My life is much less noisy! Truly, it’s mostly just noise, and that’s the last thing we need with OCD. Of course, I’ve had to ride urges to get back on it, and I don’t always succeed, but it’s rarely if ever worth getting back on. Scrolling in general is so bad for you so not much you’re missing there
I got rid of social media about 10 years ago and never looked back. Its an altered perception of reality. I should mention I only had Facebook, but still just a bunch of garbage.
Pros- No unnecessary or irrelevant information passed to me which causes intrusive thoughts or researching behaviour. No mindless scrolling No time waste on unrealistic trends Cons- complete avoidance behaviour established Now too scared to install YouTube or insta or Facebook Loosing touch of what’s going on in the world. Even if someone else next to me using social media I get too scared to accidentally look in to it
Some of your cons I would actually put in the pros lol. I kid of course because whats good for one may not be for another but I personally don't consider it avoidance if its something that you truly don't want. If it were something like "I love social media but my anxiety hold me back." then I'd agree its avoidance. Studies have shown that social media has a negative effect on even the people who don't have a history of mental illness. Our brains were never intended to absorb and compute the volume and speed at which information is shared today. The world events are depressing, negativity "the shock and awe" is what sells the news. As the old saying goes "ignorance is bliss". God bless
@OCDisHell Yeah I agree but when I deleted social media 3 years ago I experiences all the pros but now after 3 years I have developed avoidance behaviour over it as am too scared to install it or see it on someone else’s device. So totally deleting the social media didn’t work for me.I agree with all your inputs but personally for me completely deleting social media developed avoidance behaviour which is not good for me. It added as another fear of social media.
@kyra7 Completely understand. Everyone is different. Take care
The patient needs a rope (practical steps) during the snowstorm (the moment of the obsessive thought) ❄️🧠 This method is a practical plan for confronting obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), summarized in four steps: 1. Re-labeling 🏷️ · Instantly acknowledge that the thought is an obsession and not reality. · This slows down your response and strips it of its meaning. 2. Separation Between You and the Obsession 🚧 · The obsession gains its power when you believe it is a part of you. · By naming it and separating it from your self, you "disown" it in front of your mind. 3. Redirecting Through Action (The Most Important) ⚡➡️🌱 · Here, action is required: Stop the compulsive behavior and redirect all your focus and energy to another activity (Complete the proper task you were doing, which was interrupted by the obsessive thought). · This is the "test of success" and is like building a muscle through repetition. 4. Reinforcement and Reflection 🧘♂️ · After the attack subsides, review all the previous steps and tell yourself: "It was a silly obsession, I identified it, and thank God I completed my work and wasn't halted by this obsessive thought." · Repeat these steps to erase the old obsessive neural pathways and build new ones. In summary: Treatment is the repetition of these steps (especially redirecting through action). And finally, reliance on (God of Islam religion) is the cornerstone of healing 🤲.
