Definitely relatable, I recently read a book where there was SA in it and it triggered me, I recommend reading books like lord of the rings, or books of around that time if you donβt want to read anything inappropriate or gory.

Honestly, when I'm in the throws of intrusive thoughts I focus on YA fantasy. The stories are simple but you can still get lost in them. I also recommend reading reviews to try and get a sense of the content. Reading for enjoyment should not make things worse, but fear also should not deter you. I hope you can find books that bring you joy, and recommend The Little Prince. ππΎ

@Clara_and_ellie I will say it meant a lot more reading it at 19. When I was younger I did not understand all of it, as an adult I see the world in it. I will never forget reading chapter 21 with my best friend as an adult. I highly recommend a reread

YES omg, and pre-OCD, I don't remember ever having that issue π most of the time, I'll have to look through reviews of the book beforehand (not any with big spoilers if I can avoid it). If I'm reading and I get triggered, I try my best to push through, or at least sit with the anxiety. Reading in our free time should feel enjoyable, but when we avoid triggers (related to OCD), we reinforce the idea to our brains that those are things we NEED to avoid or panic over, even when they aren't. But I totally understand the frustration over it. It bothers me a lot, too. I used to be an avid reader, but recently, not so much.
