Intellect vs feelings

Sounds like you're onto something with the first part about realizing our feelings aren't necessarily a reflection of our objective reality. If you already think you're more feelings-oriented, I can get why for you it could help to try prioritizing the intellect of factual reasoning. Although in general I don't think of feelings and intellect as necessarily opposing aspects of ourselves. I think they serve different functions, which can be compatible. Like if I feel empathy for others, that can form a core moral value, and then I use my intelligent reasoning to serve that feeling, finding real effective ways to help others. Maybe you've sometimes felt tension between your gut intuition and your critical thinking about the facts. The way I value my intuition is like how I pay attention to a smoke alarm. It definitely alerts me! But then I check for myself if there actually is fire. Could be! Or could be the steam from my shower again... With a disorder like OCD, we can become aware that our intuitive feeling about something is regularly misfiring. So we can afford to desensitize ourself to that particular alarm bell going off way too much, when there aren't clear facts to feel anxious or guilty about.

The part I'm more doubtful about is forming beliefs depending on what you consider someone else beliefs. In this case a religious figure. I can think of ways that may not be reliable, or promoting secure intellect, based on my own experience and because I know many people who thought a belief was validated by a god or other authoritative spiritual concept like astrology, but that extra certainty set them up for worse disappointment the times when they find out they were mistaken. One example is an older woman who thought god believed a man she connected with through Christian Mingle was the one for her, but turned on to be a romance scam. :/ broke her heart and she had invested a lot of time and money in him. Don't want to overload you with to many points in response to this perspective you're sharing. But one thing I'd be interested to understand is how you find out what your god believes is true before deciding if you should believe that too? (sorry Idk which religion this is based on) And no pressure to explain your thought process unless you're feeling open to it :)
