When the future feels unclear
There’s a lot of uncertainty in life. It’s in the news, the weather forecast, our personal decisions—and however it shows up, it can feel really hard to stop thinking about all of the “what-ifs.” When you’re living with OCD, uncertainty can pull your attention into the future, bringing up endless questions and possible scenarios. You might feel like you need to be absolutely sure about what’s going to happen, or perfectly prepared for every possible outcome, even though those are impossible goals. Here are a few things to remember if uncertainty is weighing on you: 🫂 You’re not alone: Many people in our community can relate to these feelings. If you need support today (or any day), please reach out. 🚫 You don’t have to “solve” unwanted thoughts: Trying to do so only fuels OCD, leading to more anxiety. Instead, you can simply make decisions based on the information you have right now, and accept that your decisions may change in the future as new information becomes available. 💙 You’re not going to feel this way forever: Difficult thoughts and feelings will eventually pass on their own. Learning to manage OCD can reduce the intensity of intrusive thoughts and help you stay grounded when life feels uncertain.
