hi so I have been taking Luvox for a few months now but it hasn’t really done much for my ocd or thoughts that I did something horrible , my doctor recommended also taking lorazepam starting tmr to help me . Has anyone taken this before and did it help
Lorazepam was sometimes helpful during particularly bad spiraling and rumination spikes for me, but from my understanding, it is a benzodiazepine making the dependency risk higher, so it has been recommended only for emergencies/acute episodes. It’s typically not prescribed as daily preventative medication for long periods of time (especially since it’s half life is short). Hopefully you find relief :)) I’d consider talking to your doctor about a genesight test if you consider trying other medications in the future. Genesight tests your genotype to different medications and how you may respond or metabolize the meds based on certain alleles in your DNA that you have.

@KCSM67 You’re welcome :)!! Lorazepam wasn’t as effective for me since I have some alleles that affect the absorption, and I was on the lowest dose. I switched to alprazolam as needed (same class as lorazepam) Lorazepam would bring my 10 out of 10 level of rumination down to about a 7/10 I’d say. Which was good because with the “noise” (if that makes sense) my thoughts made, even if that was just lowered down a little bit, I could start remembering and using coping mechanisms. In times where I couldn’t, I would just try to remember that just like clouds in the sky, my thoughts will pass. And thoughts aren’t me, it’s just my brain that’s probably trying to protect me from future pain or disappointment, or trying to teach me a lesson( if I’m ruminating on the past) so I don’t repeat that mistake in the future. Lorazepam and those acute medications are kind of like brakes in a car to me. They slow down the car and help take your foot off the gas. The car may still be moving, but it’s not as fast. This gives you time to try and use coping mechanisms, because in a crisis- it can be hard to use tools. Hopefully that makes sense haha! Best of luck on you healing journey

Lorazepam is anti-anxiety med and is a DEA controlled substance. It is very helpful in short term usage but can become addictive if over used.
@Eschmatter25 yes I was informed on this , have you ever tried it before and did it help with the thoughts
@KCSM67 I have tried it, I presently take 100 mg Zoloft and take alprazolam episodically when I have trouble sleeping. I am wholly cognizant of the potential for addiction. However, I would suggest asking your doctor if you could have your vitamin D levels checked. If you’ve been under constant stress and anxiety from OCD, cortisol can wreck your vitamin D and B12 levels. I recently discovered that I had a severe vitamin deficiency after a routine blood test and my doctor ordered high dose replenishment. Since November the difference in the intensity and occurrence of the OCD thought spirals has been significant Most people are deficient, it’s probably worth asking your doctor if something as simple as a supplement could be all the difference.
