Nothing to do with ocd but

I’m trying to pursue nursing I’ve finished all my pre requisites but I’m so nervous. I don’t know if it’s the right path for me. Other people seem so clear and determined and I don’t know what to do. I’ve worked very hard in my pre requisites but is this career for me?? Do I want this?? Why don’t I feel determined? I don’t have a back up career so…, I believe I would be a good nursing but I’ve seen so many videos about People in nursing school and they are so negative. Plus I know how my ocd gets when I’m very stressed and it’s not good. Anyone who is a nurse that can give me some advice?????

hey! I’m not sure of my career either atm and not having a back up often times feels like the biggest reason to pursue something. Nursing school is not easy of course. I recommend making a pro and con list about the career. Also- taking pre requisites for nursing school is a big accomplishment. My ocd is latching on to my career decisions too so i totally get it. Like for me, i feel like there are so many uncertainties and negative what ifs that CAN happen to anyone at any point in time and that is very unsettling for me.

@Madancer90 That’s a good idea, thank you! It’s just so many things. Like what if I’m waisting my time, what if I fail. What if when I finish 2 years of intense schooling and stress I find out I’m not happy. I just hate making decisions. I wish someone would just say you’re doing this, that’s it.

@Anonymous Totally get it! I actually did grad school for 3 weeks and dropped out because i just no longer felt it was for me and it was also just super triggering for me (i intended to go for school psychology.) I’m currently working in therapy to calm my baseline and hope i can figure out what i love and have a higher window of tolerance for what ifs. My erp therapist reminded me that no one goes into a career with 100% certainty and we only go in with our “best guess.” I think nursing is a field where if u don’t like it, you have the knowledge of healthcare to do other things if that’s what ur passionate about :)

@Madancer90 I feel like nursing gives you so many options which I like. So it give me the opportunity to change what I do later down the line. I’m think I’m just afraid I will fail and I will waist my time. I think nursing is a well paying jobs, and it’s fulfilling as well as versatile. But when I hear people talk so negatively about it I get really scared

@Anonymous I felt like i wasted time and money too but honestly we learn so much throughout failure. I don’t want to reassure you that you won’t fail, but i can reassure you that if you do fail, you can try again. there are positives and negatives about schooling and the career for every career. Some are objective and some are subjective. I have a friend in nursing school and he ofc has said it’s hard, but also school doesn’t want you to fail, they want you to succeed. :) We as humans are able to achieve what we set our mind to regardless of if we fail on the first try.
