Accidentally Uploaded NSFW To Work Google Drive

So this is really awkward and I’m sorry for that. Basically I got a new phone a week ago and was logged in to my work email after hours without me noticing. I was looking for things on the internet because I was feeling spicy and I clicked on a link. With my old phone, it would usually ask me what drive I would like to download it to. My new phone did not do this and uploaded it straight to my work drive. I IMMEDIATELY panicked and deleted it (and emptied my trash). I know Google Workspace usually has another trash or something that holds on to files, so I’m panicking right now. I also have a hard time with my sexual side, so I just feel so evil and sick. I know that no one will likely see it as my company is small and has no prowess when it comes to technology, but I’m so scared I’m going to get fired and lose this job that I love and I feel like the most perverted freak ever. I want to seek reassurance, but can’t because that’s OCD. I feel like I’m always going to have this hanging over my head like I’m just waiting for them to fire me. Idk if anyone has any advice…

This is just me personally you do as you see as appropriate for yourself. I would speak with someone in charge and explain you made a mistake and accidentally mixed a personal matter with a work matter and tried to correct the error and just wanted to be upfront about it to avoid any possible misunderstanding.

@777Q Yeah I just don’t know if that’s the best plan. I know it would be honest, but I’m so afraid of potentially losing my job. I really don’t know what to do…

Are you able to empty the Google workspace trash? Can you... well, Google how to empty that trashcan? Or ask ChatGPT or something? If it isnt an illegal spicy thing, then it's just an embarrassing moment. Oops. No different than having your fly down on accident or ripping out the seat of your pants or something.

@BrandiB It’s not illegal, just very awkward and embarrassing and definitely nsfw. I deleted it and emptied it on my end, but I’m just worried my boss or admin will find it. My OCD makes me feel like I should confess to my boss, but I think that could just over complicate things and I honestly can’t tell how big of a deal this is. To me in this moment it feels like the end of the world

@TiredBug I understand. My job is all online, and you'd be surprised at how technologically inept people are the higher up you go. The chances of them finding it are slim. I won't say zero because that's not true - there is always a chance. If it were me, I'd be embarrassed as all get out, but I wouldn't make a big deal of it. I'd "confess" to a friend or something (like you've done here) and be like "Well, fudge - guess if they find it, they'll know I'm into xx. Eh, it's not like I left pornhub open when I had to share my screen in office." Ask yourself: What's the absolute worst that will happen? What's the absolute best that will happen? What will actually happen? - that'll be somewhere in tbe middle of the best and worst, and that's probably what will really happen.

@BrandiB Thank you, this helped a lot. I guess now I’m just unsure of what to do next. Do I just continue on like nothing happened or do I tell my boss and hope for the best? I wish there was a clear path to follow for something like this.

Update: I talked to my boss and was (mostly) honest and told her I accidentally downloaded a nsfw link while watching anime on a sketchy website. She was very cool about it and said everything was okay and she was happy I came forward to let her know. I still feel sick and evil, but at least I can move forward now. Ugh.
