Update from last post (doctor checkup)

Well.. it was only bloodwork for certain stuff, didn't do any mental health checkups and it was quick so I still have to go to school 😐 yay. Great... I don't like it when the doctors ask me if I've been depressed or struggling but in front of my mom. It feels so out in the open and there's no other option besides saying "no I'm fine" not the doctors fault but- ahh. 😞 Thank you guys for the tips though, I'll still have it in mind for whenever the time does come. <:^)💜💚💛

Maybe it would help if you did tell them you were depressed in front of your mom… I’m sure it feels daunting but honesty may help the situation… it won’t be easy but you owe it to yourself to not have to hide your feelings especially in front of your loved ones.

I have done that before, I've mentioned my issues and even blatantly said "I feel depressed" in the past but it either gets forgotten next day/my parents full on deny that I have any sort of mental issue 😅 doesn't help that I mask my true feelings around them. They're not awful parents, they care for me and they're good people but at the ame time they're semi oldschool/traditional ish and sort of don't have much knowledge on what mental illness really looks like.. So nowadays I just gave up on saying anything that involves depression, anxiety, and what not. And at the doctors if I mention it it just causes unnecessary tension, if you get what I mean? But you aren't wrong..! So I appreciate the note. : )

I don't know if this is helpful but many of us have parents who aren't familiar or comfortable with mental health. They may ignore or resist it because it has a stigma historically. Honestly they may just not have any clue what to do with it. Anyway, I suffered from anxiety and OCD (undiagnosed) as a teen. I never really addressed it until my 30s. I truly wished I had. Future you will be infinitely thankful for whatever work current you is willing to do for yourself and your mental health.

Thank you for telling me this ! Luckily I do have an older sister who has knowledge of my OCD symptoms/overall mental health. Despite being clueless in the beginning/not believing me whatsoever (to be fair.. she was also a kid like me, assumed I was just being an edgy little one at the time) it then led to the present day where there are times she tries to advocate for me and overall believes there's something up . So I'm not fully alone for when it comes to mental illness and family. Much much younger me also figured out what was up alone + made 95% of the progress that lead to where I'm at now, if it wasn't for that I believe I'd be way more erratic/anxious. So I'm confident that I could find a way to gain more progress with diagnosis/help by the end of this year even without the understanding of my parents .! 🫡 (not criticizing them.) It won't be easy but as you said, I believe future me will be grateful of present me, just as I'm thankfull of younger me.

@VVbee You're way ahead of where I was at your age. Be proud of that. I hope you keep pushing and succeeding.
