Supportive routine or OCD rule?
A lot of people use Sundays to “reset" and prepare for the week ahead. That might mean cleaning, meal planning, or getting your calendar organized. These activities can be genuinely nourishing, but they can also become compulsive. It all depends on what's driving them. If Sunday prep is starting to feel less like a choice and more like something you have to do, OCD might be in the driver's seat. A shame spiral that kicks in when you feel unprepared or “behind” on a Sunday can be one sign of this. To understand what might be behind your desire to plan ahead, try reflecting on these questions: 1) Do I want to do this thing, like time-block my calendar or organize my fridge, or is OCD telling me that I have to, or else I’ll be anxious the rest of the day? 2) Does this feel imminent and urgent? Is there flexibility? 3) Am I worried that something bad will happen if I don’t do this thing? 4) Is this rooted in my values, rather than fear? There’s a difference between structure that supports you and structure that controls you. 👉We’d love to hear from you: What does a supportive Sunday look like for you? How do you tell when a routine becomes too rigid or compulsive?
