SSRI’s for OCD
For those who have tried and benefited from SSRI’s, which one did you take and what did you notice changed after starting it?

Zoloft(Sertraline) works well for me!
@ineedlotion Sameeeeee
I’ve taken almost all of them, and honestly, they have never really helped much. I’m on Luvox now and it’s been the most effective, but, here I am in ERP therapy, so in my opinion they have all been garbage and not much help. If anything, they take the edge off the OCD.
@CoreyD Do you know if there are any non ssri meds for ocd
@jj5788 There is a tricyclic antidepressant called Anafranil that is commonly prescribed for OCD.
@CoreyD I’m afraid they won’t do much for mine either. My ERP therapist wants me to start Prozac for my OCD. Have you tried it?
@jj5788 There are also SNRI’s and they also supplement mediations with small doses of certain antipsychotics.
@Mocohoco I take Prozac and I find that for me it helps minimize the anxiety without any crazy side effects, but I’m also currently on a low dose. I still get anxious because of the ocd, but the anxiety isn’t as bad as it used to be and my ocd waves went from every other week to at least one per month - then again I also have GAD so, nonetheless, I find it helps with the anxiety piece compared to without it (for me personally)
@AriannaP I have anxiety outside of OCD as well so I’m hoping it could help with that. Thank you for sharing!
Fluvoxamine, hate the side effects but it does really help.
@stygian It prevents me from spiraling, it makes a bit “high” and makes me forget what I was thinking about 10 seconds ago.
@stygian My ERP therapist wants me to take Prozac for mine but I hear people benefit from Flovoxamine as well. Can I ask what side effects you get?
@Mocohoco Loss of appetite Insomnia Tremors Loss of libido Nausea Body temperature increase But it does give me amazing euphoria, and side effects of medication are different for everyone. If you start do the lowest dose!
@stygian Another thing about Fluvoxamine is that it works immediately
@stygian I’ll talk to my doc about Fluvoxamine. I’ve always avoided this class of drugs because of the side effects.
Celexa is working for me. Taper super slow whatever you start imo, I think most med providers aren’t used to ocd and don’t fully understand “worse before better” is really hard for some of us. Also study’s show it takes more for us and longer for them to help us, about 3 months for full effect for me
@Optimistic_NOCD_User Glad it worked for you! Unfortunately when I had genetic testing, they told me I need to avoid Celexa because my body wouldn’t tolerate it.
Fluoxetine Prozac
@knicks11K That’s the one my therapist wants me to take. Did it help you? Any side effects?
I'm on Lexapro and Buspairone My doc just started me on a newish one too called rexulti
What do you guys find the meds do most? Is it eliminating the anxiety? Did any of you give erp a go on its own before medication was recommended to you? The therapy is what is going to really change that brain biology. Neural plasticity is an amazing thing. It’s important to understand the medication is to only help you participate with the therapy if you are struggling to do it without it. Medication does not fix anything. Therapy is what does the real fixing. And the more you put in the quicker you will get better.
Zoloft 100mg here. Takes the edge off the ocd and the anxiety thr intrusive thoughts give me most of the time but I still get thought spirals. OCD usually requires a higher dose of Zoloft so I’m not sure if I’m just not on a high enough dose
