I am currently taking hydroxyzine and Prozac but I feel like they aren’t really targeting my symptoms. Is there another medicine I could try that could help more? Does medicine even actually help?

@Chrissoto14 That’s the dose I’m on. Prozac hasn’t helped me yet and I might try chlomipramine. Someone else here said it, but they can add something like abilify as an augmentation or other things as augmentations

@Chrissoto14 I haven’t found a combination of meds that works for me. I’m treatment resistant. I’ve had no side effects positive or negative from any medication including Xanax (a benzodiazepine that is supposed to provide short term relief during spikes). My psychiatrist is recommending chlomipramine next and then deep TMS. I’ve tried 80mg of Prozac, 10 mg of abilify, 20 mg of memantine (for 3 weeks so it could be too early to tell for memantine), and 60 mg of buspirone. I’ve also tried 200mg of Zoloft. I’m a rare case, but there are options.
@ERP is the way to be I have one and have gone twice a week since the end of September. Unfortunately I’m a rare case, because nothing has worked so far. They recommended residential treatment or a PHP at somewhere like Roger’s, which my parents are not for which sucks, because it could help. I’ve been resistant to ERP and medication, so I need either higher level ERP (Rogers) or something like deep TMS

@ERP is the way to be We try to do it again, and he tries to push me to do it, but I have a very hard time staying focused when doing ERP. I might be doing ERP for one theme, and then another theme will take over and the ERP won’t be as effective. Some of my obsessions are difficult to explain. That is part of why my therapist is recommending something like Rogers where I would go for 6 hours a day, because outpatient hasn’t worked

@anonymous23635 Same, I have adhd and autism spectrum disorder and that makes things more complicated.
@anonymous23635 So if I am doing one exposure snd something else intrusive and unrelated comes in I would keep doing that exposure . I would just keep listening to the other thoughts. Or I could stop doing all the exposures and just listen to whatever decides to show up . I would just listen to all the annoying thoughts . I would keep doing whatever it is I was doing . Washing clothes , eating dinner, talking to friend’s. The idea is to carry on with your day no matter what thoughts, visions, feelings come in

@Chrissoto14 I do not ignore the thoughts. I pay attention to the thoughts. I can write the thoughts down if I want . I recite the thoughts over and over for as long as I want or short as I want . Or I don’t write , all depends on what I want to do because I am in control. It’s like someone screaming at you but they are locked in a cage . They can’t really do anything to you but boy it’s annoying . You might even respond to them sometimes with a “maybe that’s true , maybe it’s false”. you let them keep screaming . Accept that they are screaming , accept that it is annoying but realize there is no real harm happening . Eventually at some point the annoying person with get a sore throat from screaming and stop screaming . Will they start screaming again? Maybe or maybe not ! At some point thr screaming isn’t as loud because they know You are caring less and less about the noise

@Chrissoto14 I am training the fear centers of my brain to be less cautious of weird thoughts when I keep doing whatever when having thoughts that scare me . am I scared when I think I could jump out of a window? Yes! But I will keep eating or whatever. Your thoughts don’t control your actions . I can think i am a millionaire but my broke a$$ still doesn’t have a million dollars . So thoughts will never be reality unless we act on it . OCD might say “ what if you can’t control Your actions today ?!“ We have been in control Of our actions since Atleast 2 years old . No matter what OCD says we will be in control of our thoughts

If your body tolerates meds then they absolutely can help a lot. But every med will have different results with different people. It’s not uncommon to have to change meds if you aren’t seeing the results you’d like to see. It’s helpful to track duration and intensity of symptoms and relay how you’re feeling to your provider. Unfortunately psych meds are a trial and error kind of thing
@Raven_ Yeah I can see that. My body has definitely started to tolerate meds now.
I also take hydrozine and Prozac. The key for me was the Prozac dosage. I started to feel some improvement at 40mg and then it really started to work at 60 mg. I don't have 100% reduction but my psychiatrist said that a 50-60% reduction in symptoms is considered successful for a medication. And ERP is helping me get the rest of the way that the medicine isn't getting to.
@Anonymous That helps. I’m at 80 mg but maybe I need to do more ERP.
Antipsychotic and/or lamotrigine augmentation with SSRIs. And the SSRI should be at higher doses than those used for depression or anxiety. 80mg prozac is usually used for OCD
