Yes, OCD can definitely make you feel like that. Let me explain how OCD works... OCD gives everyone taboo, intrusive thoughts. These are often sexual or violent thoughts, etc. Let's take a person with POCD, for example. This person will experience sexualized thoughts about kids. The thoughts will bombard his head every waking moment of the day. Eventually, the person's mind grows numb to the thoughts. The person's brain becomes overwhelmed and tired. The OCD tries to convince them that HAVE TO experience a negative emotion toward the thoughts. OCD says that if don't experience a negative emotion, that means that they "want" the thoughts. But you have to realize that these are all lies of the OCD!!!!! Here's the truth... 1.) Intrusive thoughts are meaningless. It doesn't matter if they are thoughts about sex or throwing people off the balcony. It doesn't matter if they are bad thoughts about God or bad thoughts about a spouse. All intrusive thoughts are the same. And they are all meaningless. They are like wisps of smoke. OCD will constantly keep you in its clutches until you realize that the thoughts don't mean anything -– no matter what they are . 2.) You have to stop fighting the thoughts. If you try to push the thoughts away, they are only going to get worse. The key to defeating OCD is to ALLOW the thoughts to run freely through your head. I remember when I first started doing this. I had terrible blasphemous thoughts against God. I thought I might go to hell if I allowed the thoughts to run freely through my head. But I learned that I was actually SAFE to do this. This is because the intrusive thoughts actually don't mean anything. 3.) You don't have to have a negative emotion attached to the thoughts Everyone's brain hits overload after a while. Eventually, people become numb to the thoughts. And then they always become scared that their lack of emotion means that they actually "want" the thoughts But they need a paradigm shift. In ERP therapy, you learn that it's OK to have NO RESPONSE to the thoughts. In fact, you are supposed to have no response to the thoughts. An ERP therapy, you learn to allow the thoughts to run freely through your head, and you don't need to have any emotion associated with them at all. In fact, you want to get so familiar with the thoughts, that you can say, "Hello, intrusive thoughts. You are welcome to stay in my head all day. I don't care if you are here or not." ----------------------------- I can tell that you are very tortured by the OCD right now. But you don't need to be!! Once you learn how OCD works, you can be free from the lies that OCD is telling you. Please feel free to message me, and we can talk more. I hate to see you suffer like this. ERP therapy can really help also! NOCD is a great place for ERP therapy. And they take most insurance! I am using NOCD right now.
Thank you for your kind and elaborate response. The initial intrusive thought doesn’t come that often. It’s me going back to the topic, testing and checking my response and feel nothing. I’m so scared I’m aligned to this thing and it’s tearing me up inside.
@Dee_86 The trick to beating OCD is that you learn to NOT CARE when the initial intrusive thought comes. It is nice that it doesn't come very often, but EVEN WHEN it does come, you need to train yourself to not care. Otherwise, you will live in fear that it might pop back up. And it is this FEAR that continues to fuel the OCD. The only way to stop the fear is to ALLOW all of the OCD, no matter what it is. :):):):) I have a lot of experience with this. The fear is actually the fuel. We have to take away the fear.
@Tea and Honey Remember, you don't have to feel anything!! So you don't need to check:):) Even if you don't feel anything, it's fine!!! When you embrace this, you will get freedom. !!
@Tea and Honey - It’s so hard when your mind is telling you something different, it’s just so scary. Thank you so much.
@Dee_86 Yes, it's hard!!!! 💙💙 I know what you mean. But OCD is lying to you. OCD says that the thoughts make you a bad person. But that is not true. The thoughts are MEANINGLESS. The thoughts don't matter. It doesn't matter if the thoughts are about sex or violence or pedophilia or whatever. It just doesn't matter. OCD gives these types of thoughts to everyone with this illness. Take my advice. Don't worry about the thoughts. Do this out of faith. I know it's scary. But the roadway out of OCD means that we have to take some of these scary steps. When the terrible thoughts pop in your head, just ignore it. Just let them be there. You can say, "Hello, scary intrusive thoughts. I recognize you. You are welcome to stay all day if you want to." This takes a long time and practice. It's okay if you don't do this all at once. All you need is a little baby step at a time.:):):) That is progress, even if it's just the tiniest bit forward. :):)
@Tea and Honey - Thank you ❤️ I just want to be a good person and align with what’s good, not what my brain is trying to convince me of ❤️
