Hey i am new here with religious ocd how this app work
from my experience people just ask for support! whether that be advice on how to manage ocd, distress, or to find someone who has similar experiences to you :) ive been active on here just this week and i already have found a lot of support on here
@itssal Is it possible if i can contact with any professional from other countries
@sisi5 that i am not certain of, from what ive seen so far the therapists are based in america
@itssal Yeah i dont live in america i want someone far
@itssal U also have religous ocd?
@sisi5 i do not my friend, but there are many people who experience that sub-type within this community :)
@itssal Can i join any groups or first we can talk like chat with professional
@sisi5 i think you can make your first appointment through the app in the therapist section. you can see if your insurance is eligible or you can pay out of pocket. but to my understanding just one session gives you access to free support groups that meet over zoom!
@sisi5 Oh also, there is an online Zoom on NOCD specifically for people with religious OCD!🥰
Oh yeah its better than paying
OK, so, I love theology! I only have an undergrad and I know much more about Christianity than I do other World Religions, so if you wanna talk lmk! I have struggled with religious OCD in the past, but my theme is different now. I’m pretty much over the religious OCD part!🙌
@Lisa3 Do u have any advice bcz it is hard
@sisi5 Tons! What is your specific concern?
@Lisa3 Like i get religious thought about praying more than once and if i see a reel i cant skip it and if i skipped reading bible or rosary i will feel guilty and alot more
@Lisa3 It affected my daily life i dont really enjoy i sleep so much
@sisi5 I mean, just broadly…like what is your religion or denomination? You don’t have to be specific but what is your general concern?❤️
@sisi5 I’m sorry to hear this. I’ve been there. If you are comfortable, just let me know your belief system, and I will do my best.
@Lisa3 Yeah i am Catholic Christian
@Lisa3 I really love my religion but recently alot pf stress
@sisi5 Cool me too! give me five seconds
@Lisa3 Okay thank u
@sisi5 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2011%3A28-30&version=NRSVUE By pf do u mean “perfect”? Sorry!
@Lisa3 I meant of*
@Lisa3 Thank u for real
@Lisa3 Have u ever got any of these thoughts?
@sisi5 So about what? Do you feel like you’re sinning all the time? That used to be me.
@Lisa3 I feel if my mind tells me to pray now and i dont i immediately feel guilty or if i skipped reading bible or a reel of Christ i feel so guilty and cant breathe and stress
@sisi5 OK, so sorry I just saw this! Yes, I absolutely used to feel like this. Father Thomas Santa, the OCD religious scrupulosity expert, explained it to me like this: God understands what you intend when you pray. If you mess up and lose focus, etc. Just trust that God understands your intention.🙏❤️ It sounds like you’re pretty faithful! Reading the Bible, and saying the Rosary is great, however, God does not require that we do this constantly. Jesus asks us to, “follow me”. So, if you are doing unto others as you would have them do to unto you, and loving the Lord your God, with all of your heart, mind, soul and all your strength and loving your neighbor as yourself, those in my opinion are pretty much the summation! Give me two seconds to address the reels issue
@Lisa3 Sister i really appreciate those word is this gather i can communicate to?
@sisi5 No problem! I really do enjoy theology and honestly anything to keep my brain off my own OCD nonsense is great! Not sure what you mean here. Did you mean to write, “gather”?
@Lisa3 The father u talk about can i communicate with him?
@Lisa3 And when this ideas come to u about prayers what u do?
@Lisa3 I would for sure try to make an appointment even tho i live far away but i feel i might get the help you gave me hope
@sisi5 I say Lauds (20 minutes), almost every day, if I have time. If I don’t, I cut myself some slack. The Liturgy of the Hours may not be your thing so do whatever feels right to you concerning prayer. There are tons of ways to pray so just do whatever helps you to feel the deepest connection to God. I pray throughout the day (only as it comes to me), and if I get distracted or want to do it over and over, I just trust that God knows what I mean. I receive the Eucharist weekly (if I’m not crazy sick), and only go to confession really about once a year now. Say a prayer before eating and maybe three prayers before bed and trust that God loves me and wants the best for me/sees my effort and intention.
@sisi5 That’s great! I’m so glad🙌 If you can’t do the appointment, I highly recommend the free newsletter that they offer and also the book really really helped me!
@sisi5 That’s great you made an appointment 😊 My friend, whoever is telling you that it will not be cured is absolutely untrained in religious OCD. It can be significantly better. I still struggle sometimes, but it’s not the constant fear of going to hell and doing religious practices all day long anymore. You can do this!
@Lisa3 I will try my best good luck for u and thank u alot sister
@Lisa3 God bless u
@Lisa3 I will pray for u and if u can pray for me
@sisi5 I will absolutely! I already have. Thank you for your prayers. Please be gentle with yourself and have compassion on yourself. I’m really hoping NOCD, or the managing scrupulosity resources will be able to help you. I know if you stick with it they will.🙏
@Lisa3 I will good luck for u 🙏🏻🩷
