I’m trying to break my rumination, replaying my old sins and transgressions, urges to confess, and trying to use scripture to heal. Any kind words or verses you can think of? Also, you don’t have to be a Christian to respond. Jesus loves us always!
I also am learning to use scripture for healing. It has helped me immensely. Psalm 32:8 the Lord says “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” NLT Psalm 103:12 “He has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west.” Hebrews 8:12 “I will forgive their wickedness and never again remember their sins.” Isaiah 43:25 “I, yes I alone will blot out their sins for my own sake and never think of them again.” Also Psalm 91 is my favorite when I’m feeling doubt and fear. Remember Jesus took all of our sins upon himself at the cross. They are paid for by the blood. We can claim victory over sin and death by the blood. And He literally does not remember our sins that we have already confessed. Isn’t that awesome to think about? I meditate on that fact alone frequently.

@alan87 Yes! Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will never die.” Jesus is the word. He was there from the beginning.

A go to might be Romans 8:1 there’s no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus! I can imagine how this might be a challenge as our brains question these things and it can maybe become compulsive
@Chrysalis731! I see Romans 8:1 a lot. I love it! And you’re right, it’s hard to apply it to yourself when you are questioning everything, and the guilt of thoughts or actions.
I found Isaiah 43:25. I think it would really help! It states "I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins." God has mercy and he knows YOUR heart.
@semcel I try to tell myself this all the time! God knows my heart. It’s hard to remember that for myself.
@semcel I know God knows my heart, but it’s tough to remember that when your thoughts are so intrusive and disturbing, you can’t trust them, you feel like you are a monster, you question if you’re a good person or if harming loved ones is your intention. Just sucks. I have days where I have these thoughts and I’m able to just think them and not judge or ruminated, and then there are days and spirals like the past few days where I hang on every thought. Decipher its meaning. I’ll have a intrusive thought about harming my spouse and then “why did I think that?” “Why am I imagining that?” “I don’t want that to happen”, “I think Im a good person, maybe Im a bad person, and that’s what I want.” Etc
@alan87 I completely understand and with OCD it doesn't help. However, we are not perfect and we are only human.

@alan87 Hi Alan, Constantly replaying forgiven mistakes is a heavy burden. When God forgives, the slate is wiped clean. Reliving past guilt often stems from personal shame or an outside source, rather than the intended purpose of grace. You have to realize that once you have confessed a sin to the Lord, it’s no longer in your record.

@Dina Lenore Wow, that is perfectly put! Yea, it is my own personal shame that is holding down. How do you learn to accept God’s forgiveness? And build that into your own perspective of forgiveness.
@alan87 If you have already confessed a sin to the Lord and were truly sorry for it, He wouldn’t even know what you were talking about if you brought it up to Him again. It’s literally erased. That’s what the cross was for. He literally died for every sin we would commit. God offers us mercy and grace and we are covered by the blood. Recognize that if God can forgive you, you are worthy of forgiving yourself. This can take years.
@Dina Lenore Thank you for these kind words. I have confessed to the Lord and in reconciliation with a priest. Sometimes it’s just tough to not beat yourself up or feel anxious about it. I can’t wait to go to bed and watch mass on YouTube, and/or listen to and pray some prayers on the Hallow app.

Maybe it’s not confessing to your spouse. Maybe it’s just sharing what is on your mind which is what spouses do.
