You have to understand that this is normal. This is just what OCD does. You have to come to a different relationship with your thoughts and feelings. OCD will continue to make you feel really bad about yourself until you can make this next step. Here is the step you have to take: You need to realize that your thoughts and feelings DON'T MEAN ANYTHING. When your feelings of happiness or excitement or attraction happen at a taboo theme, you just have to just ride it out. You want to come to the point where you don't care if those thoughts or feelings are in your head or not. The truth is that it DOES NOT MATTER if those thoughts and feelings are there. OCD is going to want to tear you apart and tell you that you are a bad person. I'm going to post something down below for you. Remember to keep taboo thoughts and feelings in mind when you read it. The point is that you have to train your brain that you don't care if happiness or excitement or bad thoughts are in your brain or not.
@Tea and Honey How to handle bad thoughts and feelings..... You have to treat the thoughts and feelings as though they don't mean anything. Because there done mean anything. It doesn't matter how taboo they are. In order to recover from OCD, everyone has to change their relationship with their thoughts. Everyone starts out afraid of their thoughts. They believe that their thoughts are DANGEROUS and that there is some connection with their thoughts to the outside world. This is the big trap of OCD. We have to stop fighting off the thoughts. We have to learn to ALLOW the thoughts while at the same time doing nothing about them. If you try to fight them off, they’re just going to get worse. My NOCD therapist explained it like this: Imagine a tree planted by river. The leaves from the tree fall off and float down the river. You watch the leaves fall, but you don’t try to stop them. You just let them float down the river. This is the same with ALL intrusive thoughts. It doesn’t matter if these are bad thoughts about God, violence, sex, attractions, etc. All intrusive thoughts are the SAME. You just let them fall off the tree and float down the river. The truth is the thoughts don’t mean anything, so you can ignore them. You can’t make them go away (like the leaves), but you can give them no power by acknowledging that they are meaningless.
@Tea and Honey Thank you so much your replies are always so kind and helpful 😊😊😊
@💤 I'm here for you!!! Just let me know what is bothering you, and we can work through it
Excitement is the same feeling as anxiety in the body with a different story attached to it. If you think its gross and you feel bad now about it, you’re not “excited”. This happens to me all the time too and it got so ridiculous that it snapped me out of it, like I looked at my dog and my OCD tried to convince me that I liked it, and I was just like… what. Just remember, even as the anxiety ramps up and makes you feel super bad about your sensation, you would never act on it. You’re OCD might even say, “but you want to act on it!” but trust me, to be on here in the first place means you definitely don’t.
