ERP
I have a bunch of subtypes of OCD and the main one I struggle with is ROCD. It affects me and my wife so much. I want to start therapy but ERP really scares me Any advice?

Just do it. ERP is hard and scary, but so is living with untreated OCD. You can do this! Your future self will thank you.
ERP is always scary, because it is tackling what you are most scared of! In my experience, the best way to overcome fear is to face it. Sometimes the first exposure is getting help in the first place. I am proud of you for being able to say it to the community on here first and I urge you to start EPR if you can! Each session will help you build resilience and soon you can be happier than you ever imagined... and likely your partner will feel the benefit too. Sending support!
@recoveryisneverlinear I think I’m just scared that they will say my ROCD thoughts are real, like I get ones like oh I might have a crush on my coworker and stuff like that and me and my wife just got married and it’s making me OCD rage
Be scared and do it anyway!! It’s the best.
@CatGee What does it look like? Like I don’t understand what you do. Especially with me having ROCD I don’t understand what the exposure would be
@gwen.marie19 It can range from: writing a script of fears with your therapist- recording yourself reading it and listening to that several times a day, watching shows with triggering scenes, making hard rules about what you will and won’t discuss in relationship, creating scenarios that would lead to anxiety (for that that would be saying no to sex or one of us leaving the house for extended periods and not communicating), not taking any compulsive action that you usually do to soothe yourself (however you reassure yourself - not doing that anymore and instead reminding yourself that your greatest fear is a possible outcome) etc
@gwen.marie19 Through ERP therapy you will get to a place where a thought about your coworker will pop up. You’ll think - maybe I do have a crush on them, maybe not. I don’t need to take any action. I don’t need to ruminate about it, nothing. And you will be amazed at how you can continue with your day. Instead of enduring the immense pain/rage that you experience now.
@CatGee I just get so anxious and nauseous my wife means so much to me, it is like the worst pain in the world truly. It makes me depressed and to where I can barely eat or take a shower. I also have AUDHD so that doesn’t help either. I’m truly exhausted
@gwen.marie19 Agreed! The pain and anxiety from OCD is the worst!! It’s debilitating.
ERP will set you free. And you will have good support from your therapist and NOCD app to make small manageable change that will add ip to feeling better ❤️ you can do hard things
@Penny.Penny.Penny NOCD doesn’t take my insurance and I’ve had such bad trouble finding one near me that specializes in OCD that is also non religious
