Share your Zoloft experiences!!

Pharmacy tech here! Everyone will react differently to different medications, but the ssri with the least side effects and discontinuation symptoms is generally fluoxetine (prozac). Any ssri will take about 2-4 weeks to notice any therapeutic benefits, so keep your Dr updated on how you're tolerating the medication, and be sure to keep taking it as directed. Sertraline (Zoloft) is an extremely common medication and it can do a lot of good for you! I recommend you ask about side effects and discontinuation symptoms if you decide to come off at any point before you start. Good luck!

Everyone is totally different! I would say to make sure to be honest with how long it takes for meds to “kick in” and to ignore the early placebo fears, and to just note if you feel that weird chemical-oh-dang moment when your brain goes into an odd territory. I noticed with Zoloft that I had a lot of irritation/baseline anger, and my temper was quite short, and I told my doctor when I noticed because I wasn’t sure if it was just my mind or not. But I’ve had a friend on the same prescription for 4+ years with the best experience—it’s so crazy how everyone does things differently. Hi, Zoloft was the first SSRI that I tried and I didn’t have a good experience. I felt quite indifferent to life, no lows but also no highs. I kept going up in dose thinking it was too low and started getting bad night sweats, so went off it. I’m now on low dose Prozac and LOVE it. I feel like a less stressed me.

I attempted to try it years ago and it didn't really do much for me except make me exhausted all the time, but the other commenter is correct, as everyone is different and could react differently to the medication. If you end up trying it, I hope it goes well!!

I’ve had a decent experience taking Zoloft the last couple months. I experienced some nausea and tiredness when I first started taking it, as well as any time I increased my dosage. However, this always went away after a day or two. I have noticed that most OCD-related panic attacks I’ve experienced since taking Zoloft haven’t been as severe as the ones I experienced in the months prior. I also have noticed I don’t ruminate for as long as I was prior to starting Zoloft, but that is likely also due to starting ERP 3 weeks ago. Wishing you good luck with your appointment!

I am on Zoloft and I love it! It’s my first time on an SSRI. I started getting glimmers of hope the first week of taking 25mg. After about 5 weeks, I increased to a tablet and a half (37.5mg) and that’s what I am on now. I’ve been on Zoloft for a total of 10 weeks and it feels like a weighted blanket between me and the world. I also got prescribed Ritalin three times a day for my adhd and that also feels like a huge support. I found the Zoloft to be incredibly helpful and had early memories of “I love how helpful this is and I love how it makes me feel and I also miss feeling like I can touch the world with my hands and not through a window”. And honestly the thought is discontinuing Zoloft scares me as I’ve learned and gotten used to how it’s supported me. I also remind myself, “give it one year. You are in OCD treatment and Zoloft is helping you manage OCD and overwhelm for now. Maybe you will be in this for a short season or forever, but it’s only been 10 weeks and we don’t need to solve the future.” I did not like the night sweats I had the first 5 days. I wasn’t even hot, just dripping sweat all over my bed. But after 5 days it stopped and life with Zoloft is a much more livable life.
