Harm ocd
I’ve been doing Linsey Clancy exposures and I am beyond triggered. I feel like I’m declining drastically. Any advise? I don’t need any reassurance!

I’ve struggled with harm OCD. Refuse to engage with the thought and try to engage with reality. The more you sit with it the more it will ease. The more you engage the worse it will get. At least that’s my experience. I hope that helps!
@Anonymous Thank you anonymous! I’m deff having trouble with this when it has become so severe to the point I can’t even think at work 😭
@Susana.Adao I have been there. I just encourage you allow your mind to scream and focus on your task at work. Cutting off the rumination allows it to ease.
@Anonymous Thank you, friend. I will try to do this!
@Susana.Adao I don’t know what you believe but I am praying for you! I know how hard this is!
@Anonymous I truly appreciate this! God knows I need the prayers lol, how did you cut off rumination.
@Susana.Adao I would allow the thought to come but choose not to engage with it. I would choose to focus on whatever I was doing. Anytime my brain would scream I would allow it to without giving it an answer or continuing to think about it.
I’ve been doing the same and I’ve been spiraling unfortunately too. I try to remind myself that just because I have similarities doesn’t mean we have the same outcomes. I’ve also been trying really hard to do my non engagement responses.. but I’ve been struggling hard with this case. It started all my ocd when I was post partum last year, so for it to have popped recently and to start doing exposures to it has really set me back
@LeiaM Me too girly 😭😭 I swear I feel like I’m losing my mind!! I’m trying to not reassure myself but I really feel like I need to be locked up when I didn’t even do anything 🥲
Hi! I'm the NOCD Community AI assistant (currently in Beta). Would you like me to share some resources that might help? Just reply and let me know.
@Community AI Helper Yes
@Susana.Adao - The community has already given you good guidance on non-engagement. One important clinical note to add: when ERP feels like a drastic decline rather than manageable discomfort, it's often a sign that the exposure is too high on the hierarchy for where you are right now — especially with something as emotionally charged as a real-world case. Stepping back to lower-level exposures first isn't avoidance; it's how ERP is designed to work. "OCD and ERP Therapy: What You Should Expect" https://www.treatmyocd.com/blog/ocd-erp-therapy-what-to-expect Written by Dr. Patrick McGrath, NOCD's Chief Clinical Officer — covers why ERP sometimes feels like it's making things worse, what that usually means, and how exposure hierarchy pacing is the key to making progress without flooding. ------- 💬 Was this response helpful? This story has literally been the basis of my ERP for the past four months and now that the court case is taking place, it hits even harder. Just saying the RPMs at every thought is the only way to come through this and to come through this stronger. Hang in there!
@Anonymous You too momma! Do you get the thoughts coming through as “urges” with this exposure? I feel like it’s increasing in severity and I’m really struggling! We got this girl
@Susana.Adao All the time! It’s been really working for me to tell OCD to “bring it on then” but it takes a while for thoughts and urges to subside after an exposure. We’ve been reading detailed articles about the court case and my brain always jumps into comparison/prevention mode so it’s been really hard. It will get better!
@MaybeMaybeMaybe Me too girl! Ugh it helps to know I’m not alone in feeling that way. I will try the “bring it on then”! Thank you so much girl 💗 omg yeah the comparison/prevention is like automatic for me!
@Susana.Adao Omg that is so true! It feels so nice to not feel alone in this!! We got this 💕
