Is age gap a problem

So I’ve been friend with this guy for a few months, just friends, but recently our friendship has developed into something a bit more. I was taking it very slow and he was so sweet and kind to me. However, the age gap is 6 years. He’s younger than me and it’s making me freak out a little bit. He’s 18 and I’m 24, I met him through my cousin and him and his friend joined our group of friends. We then realised we play the same games online and joined us playing. We then also realised we like the same everything, films, music, we know the same roaming niche facts and enjoy the same random stuff. We say the same things at the same time, we think the same things, and when we’re together I’m weirdly myself which I’ve never been before. Never once have I felt able to me fully myself around someone. But recently my Brian has been calling myself the most disgusting names, I’ve been freaking out and worrying that I’m a bad person for liking him. I turned him down a few times because of his age, but when I realised he’s a mature guy, that he’s in a very similar position in life to me, that he’s working full time, wanting to travel, wanting to enjoy life and to not go around messing around, that I realised he’s actually such a genuine guy. I’ve never met a guy who knows how to tell you how he’s feeling, to share how he feels about you. Everyday he called me adorable, cute, that he loves when I smile, that I’m gorgeous or that if I ever need him all I have to do is ask, and I never feel like he’s disappearing. He keeps me updated. But yeah my brain won’t stop looking for reassurance on the internet that I’m not doing anything wrong, my mum and dad have the same age gap, happily married with 2 kids, but because I’m the older woman it feels like I’m gonna get attacked and then my brain goes “yeah well a random person on the internet said it’s wrong so now it’s wrong” but I’m not with him because of his age, I’m with him because he’s proven to me how much he adores me. All my friends can see it as well, they all say “from the second he saw you he was whipped, he doesn’t fake his eyes off you, and when you’re together you both just fit”

I have to be honest, but an 18 year-old is fresh out of high school with you having way more life experience in comparison could be something to think about. Some 18 year olds are still in HS. My boyfriend and I have a five year age gap but we met in our 20s and even then there was still a difference in maturity even though it was less. but we have more in common because we’re both independent adults. I don’t think you’re wrong for having a crush or anything, or that is not legal bc it is. I do think it’s important to step back and ask are you really wanting to date someone who was just in high school? Even if he’s sweet and all that- You’ve been out fully adulting for a while now and he hasn’t even fully begun yet. but at the end of the day it’s is up to you. If he makes you happy that’s not something you should feel ashamed of, it’s nice to be around someone nice.

@finniboy I need to clarify before it drives me insane that he’s not in high school and hasn’t been for a while, we live in the uk where he would’ve left already and has started full time employment plus an apprenticeship. I also didn’t meet him when he was in the position and just came across him over the last couple of months, but we’ve been friends for those months and only recently have his feelings for me become apparent and then my feelings developed because of the maturity, the way he hold himself and the way he expressed his mind towards me and what he wants out of life which is weirdly similarly to me. I know he’s younger so there are gonna be things that he will experience that I already have, but I always think if I was an 18 year old girl and he was a 24 year old boy nobody would think any differently, so I’m just seeing where it goes and taking it slowly because you’re right, maybe there are things that make me think maybe not right now and I want you to go enjoy life, but I know I’m in a very similar boat to him. He wants to go traveling and I wanna move to Australia for a while, he wants to get his qualification and I wanna train in a different field. I wish we would’ve met a bit later yes, but idk whag the future will hold. All my friends adore him and say that I’m the only one that’s thinking about the age but in a generation where everyone’s opinions are so out there for everyone to see it’s difficult for me and my stupid OCD brain to remember I’m human and I’m figuring things out for the first time. Thank you for your honesty though, you’re right at the end of the day if he makes me happy I shouldn’t feel ashamed but I struggle to put those feelings aside

18 and 24 is fine. It's more unusual the gap where the lady is older. Ignore the idiot on the internet, just go in eyes open that an 18 year old guy may be less mature in some areas than you expect at 24, especially since guys tend to mature slower on average (but also remember guys don't ever really mature properly, I'm 40 and my wife would still say stuff 😂)

@titaniumonetwo Thank you for your reply, it’s nice to hear this and put my mind at ease for a minute. I know there will be times we’re both on different levels but for the most part it’s crazy similar. Whaha when do men actually mature that’s a good point 😂 thank you though

6 years isn't bad. My personal cut off if I had to date again would be 8 years. My parents are 13 apart.

As long as he’s 18 it doesn’t matter , everyone has perspectives on age and dating so some people aren’t going to agree but are you breaking the law ? No so dnt stress
