How emotional contamination OCD showed up for me
A lot of people don’t realize this can actually be a subtype of OCD! As Jacqueline Elgersma (@thatanxietycommunity) explains, emotional contamination OCD can make it feel like thoughts, feelings, or experiences can “stick” to you or objects/places/things you care about. For some people, that looks like avoiding clothes from a bad day, deleting playlists connected to a difficult OCD theme, repeatedly showering to feel mentally “clean,” or feeling like a sad story could somehow transfer to your own life. If this feels familiar, you’re not alone. OCD is highly treatable with specialized therapy.
