If I been on Zoloft and abilify for a year can I stop taken it cause it's not working no more and my doctor won't do anything to help me get off it

I would honestly advise that you stay on the meds for the time being while you look for a new doctor who will actually listen and help you achieve your treatment goals. I say this because these medicines affect our brain chemistry in powerful ways and can be very dangerous to quit cold-turkey. However, we’re all adults, and so if you wanted to quit on your own despite this warning then I’d research the elimination half-life of Zoloft and go from there.
Please don’t come off it cold turkey! I had horrible withdrawal from sertraline even when I was reducing it gradually!
Was it bad
@dbow92191 Just took a while to get used to coming off it like it can make your anxiety go up temporarily
Thank u
Forgive the contradiction but my mom was on significantly more meds than that and the hospital dried her out in a week. She had a pretty bad panic attack at one point and was put back on a smaller amount of meds. To this day my mom doesn't think ssri's do anything to help her overall well being. She's just scared to get off of the benzos and gabapentin for obvious reasons. Be careful. But so you know I've been battling OCD for a couple years and have never once taken anything for the anxiety. Never. I refuse to. If I can't sleep, than that's different, I'll take something for rest. But the best meds for my OCD (pure o) is exercise weekly, sleep as much as aloud and if course the grace of my Savior Jesus Christ. Hang in there, you got this. Your a strong soul without the Zoloft.
Thanks
@dbow92191 This too shall pass. I don't know you but I believe in you. I look forward to hearing your testimony my friend. Reach out if you need to talk
@theycallme... I will thanks
@theycallme... Clinging to God to free me from this 🙏🏼
Yeah unfortunately they tend to not tell you the realities of meds. Meds realy are a double edge sword. Good news is You can come off them, but you will have to do it slowly and be prepared to do some real erp once all the symptoms come back. You will feel a lot of anxiety and other uncomfortable feelings the medication was masking. I find it disturbing how they are not exactly honest about medication. And I also find it perplexing how they expect you to build tolerance and habituate to things you can’t experience or feel properly due to the medication. Contradicts good ERP and neural plasticity.
@danny02 What do you find that is helpful if you’re not on meds?
@danny02 Don’t forget self compassion.
Hyperbolic/body led tapering. Whole foods/keto diet/therapy. Do not cold turkey. Do not listen to your doctor like half it then half it againin a few weeks blah blah blah. Look at outro if you want help coming off of them. They will prescribe you liquid drops to help you come down off of it more slowly.
SSRI’s work differently for everyone. In my experience, the dose that I was on did nothing for my OCD because there’s a certain threshold you have to hit before Zoloft works for OCD. Like some other people in the chat I recommend for what it’s worth that you either really probe the OCD specifically with your psychiatrist or find one who will listen to your concern that it’s not doing anything.
