Hi! I have been on 50mg zoloft for almost 9 weeks, felt like maybe it helps sometimes but not for my ruminating/intrusive thoughts/feelings checking etc. Just started 75mg today as advised, does anyone have any advice/ experience? Thank you:)
50mg or 75mg are low for OCD. I have been on 100mg for a long time, before it got better. Even got to 150mg at one point. Now I am on 75mg, but it’s a bit low. Depending on what you want to do or have resources for, but combination of therapy and medications is really effective.
@EnglishBreakfast00 Yes EnglishBreakfast00 is right. Depending on the specific person, certain doses may or may not be better. Usually a higher dose is better. That’s what I found for myself. But the therapy is also extremely important, the medication makes it a little easier to do erp and to implement other techniques
Hello! Yes, I have experience with Zoloft!!! Originally I was on like 50-75mg for like a year and it did like almost nothing, but maybe a little bit. Then I got a new psychiatrist and she said that I needed a higher dose to see any true improvement. I am now up to 175mg and I am seeing a great improvement! It’s still not perfect but I am able to sometimes let go of thoughts, and they aren’t always that scary

@Anonymous First of all thanks for replying! I’m glad you are feeling so much better! My psychiatrist also recommended to go on 100mg after a few days on 75mg, but i like to take things slower haha don’t want to rush before I see if maybe 75mg would work.

Don’t depend on the medication, it is only a support. invest in the erp with cbt. Good Erp alone is pretty much just as effective as erp with medication. This is the science and evidence. Combined approach is a personal choice, not a requirement for recovery. And to be honest when you get realy good at understanding what erp is and more confidant you can’t help but ditch the meds because you come to the realisation it’s just a compulsion. You were taking them to avoid the very thing erp teaches you to face. But if the meds help and your happy with the chemical assistance and where your at that is fine to.
Hi! Thanks for all the replies:) yes i have been in cbt therapy for months and before that other type of therapy. Been better, been worse but I always had anxiety, that is why I decided to go on meds. The only thing with ERP is that where I live it’s hard to find someone who does it, so I’m trying to do it by myself and will ask my therapist for additional help.
@byeeocd I understand. Read books by Reid Wilson, and Jon Hershfield, Kimberly Quinlin. Very good ocd therapists.
