Discord app

i’ve had discord for a very long time and while it has its good moments, you need to be extremely careful on platforms like this. i believe that no matter how close you are to someone on discord, you should never do these things: 1: share anything related to your real name, where you live, and your passwords on anything 2: share personal mental information (traumas, past mistakes you’re ashamed of,) unless if you would share it with literally anyone else. 3: accept downloading files from anyone, even if you know them 4:keeping passwords from other places on that account this is from experience but deeply rooted in my own paranoia, so truly do whatever you want, but i did recently get my account hacked so be aware that anything you say on those platforms have the possibility of being accessed at any moment if your guard is down or your account is breached. there are also some very dangerous people on the internet that i can also say from personal experience are the people you may least expect. you can have meaningful friendships through the internet, but you have to stay extremely careful with what you mention online. just using it as a gaming platform seems harmless, so i’d say go for it, but don’t install any dodgy files like i did. recently got hacked by running what i thought was a minecraft mod, lol. sorry for the wall of text! just make sure you stay safe

i’ve used discord for almost 10 years and i’d say it’s worth it as long as you’re in the right communities. there are a lot of predators and scammers so please be careful, but yeah it’s definitely a great way to meet people!

I hate it, it’s the root of most of my issues

I had discord for years (I still do, just don’t use it much anymore). It can be a great way to make friends, but it still has its risks (like everything on the internet). I had fun way more than I didn’t and the servers can be absolutely phenomenal. Especially if you play any kind of games online. So, no harm in trying, yeah? You can always delete it if you don’t like it or it doesn’t mesh with you

Some people at my college use that to arrange study geoups or whatever. They seem to like it. I've heard of an app called "meet up" where people find others with mutual interests and get together (reading clubs, coffee, etc). I'd be too scared of that myself. Might work for you..
