What medications are you taking?
Has anyone taken hydroxyzine for anxiety or sleep. I took a small chunk of one of my 25mg last night and knocked me out. Then I woke up feeling a little drunk. Has anyone had that happen?

Yes but it got better for me after taking it several times
@Anonymous That’s good to hear. Do you still take it regularly?
@alan87 I’ve only taken it twice to help me sleep but I hated the side effects so I stopped :(
@Anonymous I will probably not take it again unless it’s really necessary. I don’t like the feeling I have today after taking it last night.
@alan87 It’s not fun and with OCD I feel like it makes it a lot worse. You’ll feel better soon!
@Anonymous Thanks for your insight and support on this. I’m glad we can connect here in this community and related on things. Thanks for wishing me better. I’m ready to go to bed tonight and sleep to tomorrow and hopefully feel better. Or at least Im ready to lay on the couch after work and play games and read sports on my phone to distract from it.
I get serious brain fog after taking that
@Anonymous Brain fog is not fun. Has it gotten better for you?
For me, I heat up some raw milk and add some honey in it if I can’t sleep. So far so good.
@itwillbeokay Does the sugar of the honey not keep you up?
@alan87 I use only a teaspoon. It relaxes me. Though, I am always so exhausted in the evenings I rarely have trouble falling asleep.
@itwillbeokay That’s good to hear. I have trouble falling asleep because of my mind or my legs are restless and I have to get up and stretch them
@alan87 - mind I can relate, my body has no problem sleeping. what do you do for work?
@itwillbeokay I work loosely in IT , and I work from home, so very sedentary and lazy. Im not overweight or anything, Ive never dealt with really being big or anything, but my cardiovascular health probably isn’t that great. What about you?
@alan87 I work construction, along with a lot of high performance sport to fill up my time. I study physiotheraphy aswell, which can be draining so I sleep like a baby. When there is a period with a lot of exams, I take time from work and I find myself ruminating a lot, being sedentary, and that is when my sleep schedule collapses, I have trouble sleeping. I think not being able to sleep is a completely normal reaction to that, since I believe our bodies are designed to move and lift heavy, or do some kind of great physical feats. I don’t know you, and I am not judging, but it sounds to me that your body is telling you something.
@itwillbeokay I appreciate you sharing your experience. I used to be super active, working out a bunch, and still had these troubles of falling asleep, my brain just doesn’t turn off. Im always thinking and solving.
@alan87 I understand. I think my mechanism is to overwork myself to a point I can not think. I can relate brother.
@itwillbeokay I wish I had that drive. I have will to do things but let fear and ocd win. I would work myself as hard as I can go, but my fear of overworking and falling ill or dying stops me. I would go hike a mountain, but I’m afraid of every what if scenario, afraid of triggering an ocd spiral.
at first I thought I was poisoned...prescribed 3 times daily or as needed. if I took 3 in 24 hrs I would have been bed bound! I divided in 1/2 & finally 1/4 of 25mg worked best for me!
@Anonymous I appreciate you being open and sharing your experience. Did you feel anything after taking it? I felt fine yesterday after having taken it the night before, but today I feel a little floaty or buzzed.
@alan87 as I got use to it and reduced mg, it helped relax me in evening and sleep time. but I felt like a zombie for a few days after 1st 25mg dose
@Anonymous I see, that helps to know Im not alone. I liken it to being buzzed or my coordination ever so slightly impacted. I just took my ocd medication (paroxetine) at 5pm, so hoping that helps me, and I can get to bed and sleep off any side effects of the hydroxyzine from last night.
I chatted with you about preferred meds for ocd. I'm on 10mg Lexapro. I agreed to abilify but after pharmacist briefing I declined due to permanent TD!
