I know how exhausting it can be when your brain makes you feel like you HAVE to do something physically over and over just to get that feeling of relief. The fact that it’s taking up hours of your day sounds so incredibly draining. I would definitely tell your therapist exactly what you wrote here, because they can help you work on the compulsions instead of having to spend your life trying to avoid them. You’re not crazy, and you’re definitely not alone in this.

@emmspaigee thank you, I’ve already tried meds and they didn’t work, I feel atp my only option is exposure therapy but yeah it’s so draining

@heaven._6 Yes I would try the exposure therapy. If it helps, great. If it doesn’t, at least you tried it. But I do really think it will help you. Hugs!!!

Is it surrounding a couple of themes or mainly one trigger/theme?

@Dianne Mae Honestly, it’s a mix of a few different themes and it changes constantly.A lot of it is just an intense physical urge or tension where I have to keep doing a movement until it feels “just right”. But at the same time, my brain is hitting me with fears about making mistakes, and superstitious thoughts that something terrible will happen if I don't do the action.Because it's those themes happening back-to-back every couple of minutes, it just completely floods my brain

@heaven._6 I dealt with this yesterday. My urges and physical compulsions were so repetitive because I was chasing the “just right” feeling even with the most routine task of walking my cat in her stroller. That was literally all, and I had to keep repeating a movement with the stroller because I feared I shook it or lifted/landed it and it hurt her.. the weirdest thing and I probably looked like I had Tourette’s just trying to walk my cat and repeating a move with the stroller. And it’s never something I fixated on before but I made the mistake of compulsing. Because of course it was never just right. And I was never satisfied. So I ended up just trying to sit with the discomfort for what felt like hours as I went on with my evening. I feel your pain!

@Dianne Mae yea it truly sucks and with the Tourette’s thing my intrusive thoughts are so horrible where I have to yell “no” or twitch to make it stop I don’t have tourette’s but when I have to do a physical compulsion my body reacts

@heaven._6 I deal with physical tics too. I’ll shake my head to shake off an intrusive thought, or I’ll do a random weird wrist/hand movement because it somehow soothes the current anxiety in the moment. I was just telling my therapist about my weird tics this morning. It’s very random!
