Discomfort is your friend not your enemy
December of 2025 was an incredibly scary and terrifying month for my brain. I felt like I wasn’t real and I was struggling with suicidal ideation every day due to my intrusive thoughts. I finally came across NOCD and knew that I needed to reach out to receive the help I desperately needed. I’ve learned so much about OCD and what it can make you believe. OCD isn’t logical but yet, it forces you to look for the truth in “what if”. You assign meaning to things that don’t mean anything and you feel trapped inside your own mind. Once I worked with my therapist on finding how to feel like I was in my body again, that’s when I learned how to sit in my discomfort. OCD is uncomfortable and it makes you want to distract, not feel bad, and find ways to get rid of that feeling (even if it’s only fleeting until the cycle repeats itself). Sitting in the discomfort has been the BIGGEST step in conquering how my OCD manifests itself. Feeling the discomfort actually helps me feel more grounded in my body and ACTUALLY makes a bad episode pass faster. I didn’t think I’d ever get to this level of coping but I’m so proud of myself and grateful to my therapist for helping to guide me through. It’s always a process and perfection isn’t what we’re striving for. Being in my body and living my life peacefully is what I’m looking for. I’ve been able to be creative, enjoy time with my family and friends, and sit with myself more comfortably for the first time in a long time. If I can do it, so can you. We’re all so capable of so much more than we think. 💙🦋
