Ms Rachel speaks about living with OCD
Yesterday, Ms. Rachel joined Ilana Glazer on her podcast ‘It’s Open,’ and so much of what she said about living with OCD really stuck with us. Ms. Rachel shared what it’s like to live with intrusive thoughts that feel cruel, frightening, or specifically targeted at the things that would upset you most. Rather than engaging with them or treating them as a reflection of who she is, she reminds herself, “That’s not me. That’s OCD.” Many of us in the OCD community have spent years believing that our thoughts mean something about us. So, hearing Ms. Rachel say that feels incredibly powerful. She’s already brought so much joy to children and families and helped so many kids learn and grow. By speaking about her own mental health and OCD, she is also helping their parents, family members, and so many others recognize something they’ve been experiencing privately, too. Ms. Rachel is also reminding us that whatever OCD is saying inside your head does not define the person you are or the impact you can have on the people around you. We’re so grateful to Ms. Rachel for speaking up about OCD, and to Ilana Glazer for creating space for this conversation. The more people hear what OCD can actually sound and feel like, the more people may recognize their own experiences and realize that they are not their thoughts. Check out the full episode!
