When people say “I’m so OCD,” this is what they miss
Our partner Dierdre Rae hears a lot of misconceptions about OCD, like the idea that it's about liking things neat or being a perfectionist. As someone who lives with OCD, she knows all too well that the actual condition is nothing like a preference for being organized. It's serious, exhausting, isolating, and often debilitating. When OCD gets reduced to an inaccurate stereotype, people may not recognize their own symptoms, or seek out treatment that can help them get their lives back. That's why Dierdre is breaking down the assumptions she runs into and sharing what OCD really looks like in her life.
