How do you deal with extreme fears and shame n regret from real events
I cast all of my cares on Jesus. He is our peace and we don’t have to sit in the shame from the past because He makes us new. His mercies for us are new every single day. There are times i still struggle with it but i know i can just keep coming back. i know He is extending that to you too friend :-)
@Anonymous Thank you.. my mind is just attacking me from all angles
@Anonymous I disagree. Praying to Jesus as a child when the abuse was at its worst, no mercy was spared from him onto me?
@_iPhone I’m really sorry that happened to you. As you know firsthand, we live in a broken world where horrible things happen to people. But there is a God who loves you so much regardless of what happened to you. I believe His heart broke over what happened and that He wants to heal that pain. Don’t just take my word for it, it says it right in His Word.
@paisa I still struggle with the same thing but my therapist gave me good tools to work with. Your ocd might get worse before it gets better so be encouraged by that
@Anonymous What r some of those tools if u dont mind me asking? I have erp in just sitting with distress without answering to it
@paisa I really struggle with intrusive thoughts and contamination ocd (contaminating others) and i have some response prevention messages that help me like my favorite one is “I don’t have to apply any meaning to this” and “i don’t have to think about this.” Also just sitting in the distress is very uncomfortable but as time passes, that starts to fade. It’s a marathon not a race so give yourself some grace if you trip up.
@Anonymous Thanks for your replies.. I keep getting into spirals especially when it comes to mistakes from the past that bring shame n all emotions.. that don’t quiet down seems like erp is different for this real events
@paisa No problem. At least today is a new day and it touches my heart and gives me hope that it seems like you don’t want to make that same mistake again

@Raph1107 - Happy to share! When shame and regret attach to real events, the part that often goes unnoticed is that mentally replaying the event — hunting for the detail that settles what really happened or what it says about you — works like a compulsion. It feels like processing, but every review resets the doubt, which is why the relief never holds. "Real Event OCD: When the Past Becomes an Obsession" https://www.treatmyocd.com/blog/real-events-ocd Covers why OCD latches onto things that genuinely happened, how guilt gets stuck in a loop of reviewing, confessing, and seeking reassurance, and what ERP treatment for this actually looks like. "The role of shame in OCD, and how to let go of it" https://www.treatmyocd.com/blog/the-role-of-shame-in-ocd-and-how-to-let-go-of-it Dr. Vicki Rackner breaks down how shame pushes people toward secrecy and avoidance, and what to do differently when the urge to hide the thought is strongest — useful if the shame feels heavier than the fear itself.
