Well for me hocd started 6 years ago and I had the exact same thought what if I feel attracted to the same sex then it just spiraled out of control and at some points it felt really real and the anxiety was bad. For me what I can say that will help you recover quickly from any theme is by doing these things stop over analyzing and ruminating about what you feel or how you felt in the past just move on with your day and with whatever task you were doing. If you haven’t already stop watching porn all together porn is gonna make it significantly harder for you to recover especially if you watch it compulsively to check your groin responses to different videos just stop watching it period. Next get help from a therapist on here or whatever area you are in that specificalizes in treating hocd specifically. They’ll help you along your journey. The false attraction stuff does suck though it happens randomly at different moments all I can say is to not over analyze it and try to focus on your day/task even if ocd is firing off in the background. This will be hard at first but you can do it. Keep in mind I haven’t recovered from this theme it still bothers me to this day and I’ll tell you the only reason I haven’t recovered is bc of my compulsion to continuously watch porn. Do not fall down that rabbit hole or it’ll take much longer for you to recover.
@Straw hat Thank you for taking you time to reply first of all. I had this 14 years ago when I was around 18 and it just went one day. I had the thoughts, loss of attraction to females but I don’t think I had the ‘false’ attraction. I can’t really remember this episode it just hit me after a bad breakup. I’m 34 now, married to an amazing woman and we have two children. I feel like my life has just flipped in the worse way. As a male, I wasn’t really into women in school, I focused more on playing or sports. I wasn’t really into relationships or anything until I left school. I personally don’t think social media has helped in any way apart from apps like this where people can see they are not alone. 2 years ago, I was flicking through videos on Facebook and I noticed this male, I can remember mainly fixated on his eyes. He was a good looking bloke but something made me question if I was gay. It was like a switch when this all started 18months ago which completely caught me off guard. From that point I noticed everything in a male, didn’t matter age or size. I also noticed every ‘fault’ in a woman, completely lost all attraction. I used to be absolutely obsessed with women too. I still find it difficult to look at a male. Even from behind I get the sudden chest of ‘attraction’ or shock feeling which is very uncomfortable. No matter what I try to do, nothing seems to settle the constant thoughts, feelings or scenarios my head creates. I know they say sit with it, but one thought feeling jumps to another. I know it’s the doubting disorder but I don’t feel it’s doubt anymore. I really hope that it’ll get better for you
@What is happening to me Don’t ruminate on those feelings man that’s the whole thing that makes ocd, ocd is that these thoughts come with feelings if they didn’t come with feelings we wouldn’t even care but since it does it’s what makes the disorder worse. What I can suggest if you looking at a particular part in a male and that feeling flares up you don’t have to continuously look at it in order to understand or calculate it. Simply move or with your day and focus your attention on something else the more attention you pay to ocd the stronger it becomes.
@Straw hat Thanks you for the advice, really appreciate it!
