Why???
i heard that you need 1 hour total of compulsions of ocd a day to have ocd, im not sure if i do have it. I just feel so evil. but another part of me thinks my doomscrolling is a compulsion from the thoughts i have.

This is only my opinion as an OCD affected person based on what I’ve learned. More than one thing can be true in a situation. Many people doom-scroll or use their phones to an almost compulsive level in our current society. However, if it’s affecting your life in a way that you feel it may be OCD or that there’s an OCD connection in your experiences with scrolling - it’s completely valid to seek help with a therapist about it. They can help figure it out with you so you can get feeling better. 💛
Hi 0542! I’m not sure where you heard that from but I’m pretty sure that there isn’t exactly a time requirement in order for a person to have OcD. I used to have intrusive thoughts and compulsions pretty much every waking hour of the day about a year ago, but now I would say that in total I have about 30 minutes to 1 hour of my day taken up by OcD. It’s a pretty good improvement but I’m still nowhere near 100% recovered and I’m not sure I ever will be… which is okay. Anyway, if you have any intrusive thoughts or compulsions at all during your day then I would say it’s worth asking to get diagnosed for OcD. It is called the “doubting disease” so it makes sense that OcD would want you to think you don’t have it so that it can keep you from getting help. Regardless, I hope you feel better and you deserve to seek help if you want to 🙂
@A Foolish Samurai Warrior i’m curious to know how you decreased your intrusive thoughts by such a huge amount. all tips and tricks..coming from someone who has harm ocd and intrusive thoughts constantly
@1234bre Hi 1234bre! Well, first I got diagnosed with OcD about a year and a half ago, then I got prescribed medication for it, Duloxetine to be specific, then I finally found an OcD therapist that taught me ERP and also helped me understand OcD, intrusive thoughts, and how compulsions worked. Then I started just telling myself that all of my harm OcD thoughts were not real and I started doing some ERP by exposing myself to the stuff that triggered my intrusive thoughts and compulsions. This is probably the best I can up with as to how I did it, hopefully it helps 🙂
@A Foolish Samurai Warrior thank you so much for responding!! i actually recently started seeing an ocd therapist through NOCD and have started learning ERP myself! i also recently started taking zoloft to help with my anxiety and ocd. my symptoms honestly started so randomly just a couple of months ago, and it’s been extremely overwhelming. i struggle specifically with harm ocd and intrusive thoughts, and what makes it so difficult is how real everything feels. sometimes i find myself labeling myself as an evil or horrible person just because of the thoughts i experience, and then all the emotions, guilt, fear, and anxiety come along with them. it’s like my brain tries to convince me that these thoughts say something about who i am, even though they go against everything i believe in. some days are definitely harder than others, and i’m still trying to understand how to navigate it all. hearing from someone who has experienced something similar and has made so much progress genuinely gives me hope! i’m working on learning how to stop giving these thoughts so much attention and breaking the cycle of compulsions and reassurance seeking. if you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take before you started noticing a difference with ERP? and do you still experience intrusive thoughts, just without the same emotional reaction or anxiety attached to them? thank you again for sharing your experience!
@1234bre No problem! It sounds like we both suffer from a very similar kind of OcD 😅… Anyway, I would say it took me about a year of being aware of my OcD and using ERP to get to where I am at the moment. Also, yes I still experience intrusive thoughts and sometimes I have good days and sometimes I have bad days, that’s just how it works for me.
