Medication helps a lot. I went through 10 months of being in a very dark place. I'm 58 and was only diagnosed with ocd a year ago. Getting diagnosed and finding a new psychiatrist after firing my psychiatrist of 15 years and getting on the right medicine. I'm doing really well now but there was a time when I felt like I would never get better and would be miserable for the rest of my life. It does get better
@Kim27 does it matter what time u take meds everyday? i always get confused on thatšš i js wish i could have an actual therapist too
@julienrbakerobsessed I take my medication in the morning and there is one I take at night. Are you not able to get a therapist because you don't have insurance? There are free support groups on this app. If you do get a therapist It's important to get a therapist that does exposure response prevention therapy and not talk therapy. Talk therapy can make ocd worse. You can do a free 15 minute call with NOCD. Maybe they can recommend some therapists that work on a sliding scale. If you can't do therapy, the right medicine helps a lot. What medicine are you taking? How long have you been taking it? It takes some time for it to become fully effective. I hope you feel better soon
I've only done therapy for half a year in my entire life years ago and never again until soon hopefully,, and I've only taken meds for a month once and also never again. Mostly due to my parents not being aware of my struggles as they're a bit old-school, + other factors and just sort of giving up haha. A response would be to try and see if you could get prescribed medication or reach out for some therapy somehow,, although the only reason why I'm getting some sort of help now is due to the fact I forced myself to dive in and managed to talk to a counselor as well as requested for counseling, but for most of my life otherwise I've just been winging it. I'm unsure what's the exact reason on why you can't do therapy, but whatever it is, that doesn't mean it's over. <3 It's much harder without it but I've survived this far and I believe you can to. (Also I've been struggling with Real Events too, that's sort of my main thing right now..)
@VVbee ur giving me hope
Whatās going on??
@KallieAnnie my rocd and real event ocd just seem to get worse everyday n i donāt know how to get better since i canāt get a therapist
@julienrbakerobsessed Can you explain a little bit more about your real life OCD? If you feel comfortable of course⦠also, why canāt you get a therapist?
@KallieAnnie my mom and not much money to rn
@julienrbakerobsessed Well Iām always here for you to talk too. I remember a time when I was in a spiral, and I felt like it would never end. It does! Eventually youāll find that the thoughts are just thoughts and they canāt hurt you, that you have the power over them, not the other way around. Now donāt get me wrong, I have moments where my OCD is like a flood and it consumes me, but I now have some tools from therapy that I can use, and it only takes a few days rather than months/years; because Iāve been there too! A helpful tip I can give you if you arenāt able to do therapy, watch some interviews that Dr. McGrath has done. Theyāre on YouTube! I took a little break from therapy and had to wait a little bit to get in, and that really helped!
Thatās ok! I didnāt always keep up with therapy but Iām still here! God is faithful! Please feel free to reach out/reply if you need a chat :)
