One thing that might help is trying a mindfulness exercise. This way you can focus more on being in your body rather than your thoughts. Box breathing can be good for this, or the 5 senses game where you point out 5 things that you can sense (touch, hear, smell, taste, see) within your general vicinity. I respond well to touch, so I like to rub a soft object or play with a satisfying substance (like sand or clay) for a while. Focusing on how that act feels can really help me get out of my head for a bit. I hope this helps!
@Ocdcyclistguy Does this happen to you ?
@ohmaddyy If I’m understanding your original comment correctly, then yes. I overanalyze my thoughts all the time, and fixate on whether they’re “normal”. There are many thoughts that pop into my head that freak me out, and I can’t tell whether they’re what I truly think or just a random thought. And then I start looking through my past for evidence to see which could be true. Whenever I come to my therapist about this they usually recommend mindfulness exercises. It’s kind of annoying, honestly, because I wish there was a more permanent solution, but sometimes this stuff really helps. When I can let go of my thoughts and just focus on what something physically feels like it can help me reset alittle.
this is happening to me too
@Teee Can you explain what you are going thru
@ohmaddyy mine started off with just constantly monitoring and checking my mind every couple of minutes for anxiety. this lead to me not being able to be distracted or present for long periods of time. now i feel like since ive been so hyperaware, im focused on actual thinking now..but things like this happen when we’re in hypervigilant states. it might not feel like it rn, but im sure this will pass. what caused yours?
@Teee Days before I was stressing about work. & putting my daughter into school first it started out as a song replaying over & over in my head than now it’s I’m constantly in my head like me thinking doesn’t feel normal anytime I think about anything my heart beats fast like I’m not supposed to be thinking idk if it derealization but it’s scary a couple of months this happened but it was where anything I looked at scarred me
@ohmaddyy i think it can be a symptom of it. you’re so hyper aware of things you’re usually not when you’re in that state. i first experienced dpdr in 2024, basically 90% recovered and now it’s back with these hyper awareness symptoms, making it harder to distract myself
@Teee Yess it just feels like I’m in my head too much which I’m always in my head but this time it doesn’t feel normal like I’m not supposed to be
@ohmaddyy i definitely get it. i hate being so inward instead of actually being in the present. it’s like when you’re so anxious, your brain can’t help but to constantly scan for danger and make you scared of the most simple things. have you considered meds?
@Teee No because it comes in goes but I’m definitely gonna consider it
@Teee Which meds do you prefer for this ?
@ohmaddyy i haven’t started yet, but im gonna try ssris first. i heard it helps the anxiety response which will help your brain stop viewing everything as a threat
Okay
