Finally! Haha I was thinking of asking this myself. I recently got prescribed Lexapro for OCD, which was I barely got diagnosed with a week ago. It was hell. The side effects were the worst. I've taken Lexapro in the past for depression, but that was years ago. I decided to discontinue it after trying it once. Idk how tf I did it back then lol.

Oh really? I mean it’s so hard because everyone’s brain chemistry is different but I haven’t had any issues so far. So since your were diagnosed last week, have you started the lexapro ?

I’ve been on it for a year. It does nothing for my OCD. But I can’t list how many things I’ve overcome because Lexapro works for anxiety. Side effects wise, I was just very nauseous after taking my pill the first week. It didn’t last long I just had to lay down

Ohh okay, I’m sorry to hear that. Would you be able to get zofran from your doctor ?

Or have you tried lemon drops or peppermints for the nausea ?

@Toledo2017 Oooo I’ve never heard of Zofran, but I’m definitely interested in a medicine that will actually help. And no I never thought to use home remedies for the nausea, prolly because it was very light. Only lasted like 10 20 min

@magical-thinking-kanna Yeah hmmm do you have a primary care doc ? Maybe you could make an appt with them and tell her you’re nauseous from a medication and see if they will give you zofran... it’s a pill if you didn’t know lol I assume you do lol

No, I decided to stop taking it this time around after using it for one night. The side effects seem to have made it worse but honestly I'm thinking of getting back on it. Perhaps the side effects will eventually subside?

Yeah maybe, I’m sorry to hear that. I have been on it for at least 2 weeks and I haven’t noticed anything but idk maybe my ocd is worse I’m not sure. What kind of symptoms did you have ?

@Toledo2017 Intrusive thoughts mostly. I've had them since I was a child though. And I had the tendency to grasp on to one and start obsessing over it and doing all sorts of weird things (compulsions) to get rid of the anxiety. I always thought OCD was being overly organized and symmetrical (which I am as well), but after years of being with the same psychiatrist and describing my symptoms to him, he said they were a stron imdication of OCD. My obsessive thoughts got so bad they turned to delusions. I was unaware of all this but that's what psychiatrists are for.

@marcovibes Oh okay and yeah it was weird like I had them when I was young like 7th grade and then I thought it went away but Idk and then it came back when I was in 10th grade and I’ve had it ever since. I have so many repeated thoughts too and I have like the same ones everyday it’s horrible and makes me miserable ?????

@Toledo2017 Yeah, it sucks. It's just something we're going to have to live with and I think it gets worse with age lol. Well, best of luck. God bless! ❤

@Toledo2017 Yes. I'm currently seeing a psychologist. Just started seeing her a month ago. No CBT unfortunately. What about you?

I was for 7 years! (30mg) it worked well for a long time but I think my body got used to it. I started having worse symptoms than I ever did. I was shaking uncontrollably, having panic attacks daily, and felt like my brain was in a cloud. I recommend lexapro for ocd as it did work for me for so long, but watch its side effects, they can be dangerous.

Oh okay thank you for letting me know and I am sorry to hear that you had that experience either lexapro. I have a friend who had a very similar reaction with lexapro. I think it just depends on the person.

(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?

Good morning to all. I have OCD and have had it since high school. However, I was not formed diagnosed until 2003, when I was 45 . I have a psychiatrist and Licensed therapist, and have been on Zoloft/sertraline ever since. Currently I have to have cataract surgery in a few weeks and I am very anxious about the whole thing. Of course this has been a trigger for my OCD and dealing with it the best I can. Any thoughts ?

I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
