It’s a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Can be used to treat anxiety or depression. :) Helps with ADHD sometimes because of the norepinephrine increase in the brain. May not work for everyone.

Hey ?? I was diagnosed as an adult. I was 22 and in my first job out of college. Symptoms can be different, but my main ones were * talking rapidly with very little filter about many successive, unrelated topics so that it was hard for most others to keep up * losing focus very easily * “day dreaming” which was really just being lost within all my thoughts, since there’s tons of them going off in all directions all of the time * behavioral problems in school as a child: disobedience, not listening to directions, not staying quiet, fidgeting, staring out the windows for extended periods of time * easily distracted, especially my movement, sound, or bright colors - anything stimulating really * loving novel things but having absolutely no tolerance for the mundane and routine to the point it is physically uncomfortable for me to conform * seemingly endless energy - I used to do CrossFit with all my effort just so I could focus for work for a bit... while medicated * poor impulse control - which mostly presented itself in the talking and also in spending too much money for me My psychiatrist sent me to be evaluated. The evaluator and I discussed my lifelong symptoms, as you cannot develop this in adulthood. Then she performed some cognitive testing on me, actually. You cannot fake ADHD, there are some cognitive differences expressed with it that will show up when tested. Namely, she was testing for my reduced impulse control and how long I was able to maintain focus on a simple task; I was very poor at both, apparently, despite having felt I did well.

My best friend also has this. We both were very poor drivers before medication, as we didn’t even notice losing focus on the road. For example, we’d hit curbs or clip mirrors a lot. We both also would misplace small objects a lot. We just didn’t notice where we’d sat them down. Our focus had already shifted. She’d continuously lose her car keys. I’d lose those and my cell phone and my wallet. It was very inconvenient. Hers is more severe than mine in that she was unable to focus long enough to read and understand. She also couldn’t do math because the numbers wouldn’t stay the central focus in her mind. She would forget everyone’s names until meeting them many many times, and she would forget other things so much that she called herself Dory (from finding Nemo).

@Kat9311 They can and do treat this with SNRIs - meaning I’m able to treat my OCD and ADHD with the same pill. :-) My bestie, having the more extreme case, needs Aderral but now can remember names, focus, find her car keys, read full chapters, and do maths. It’s been life changing for her!

@Kat9311 I was diagnosed ADHD and GA, but I have OCD - pure O symptoms. Adderall helped when I had a task, also helped depression, not sure the OCD, maybe I'll look into the snri but I'm always looking for more natural relaxants like L-theanine, triptophan, ect. Even CBD and thc oil is popular now in Canada

Since when do you believe you have OCD? Anyone who would like to share what were the indications/symptoms in childhood?

After my psychiatrist appointments, I can't stop obsessing over whether or not I explained things correctly, or if I exaggerated without noticing? We spoke about the possibility of ADHD today, and after I got home, I kept wondering if I had exaggerated my experiences of struggling to focus, finishing tasks, feeling paralyzed when I want to get things done, etc... This is how I felt when I got diagnosed with anxiety and OCD, though. It's just sort of stressing me out 🫠 Has anyone dealt with similar?

I got diagnosed with adhd about 2 months ago, I started vyvanse and it was amazing at first. So much motivation, ocd intrusive thoughts were easier to let go and would not consume me nearly as much. But then about a few weeks ago I started noticing I was getting super irritable, anxious, intrusive thoughts taking over again. I had already gone up and down to try and tweak the right dose for me so I know it wasn’t the dose. So I stopped a few days ago, and all of that instantly subsided. I feel like I’m back to square one:( I do take Prozac, only 20mg becuase I have to slowly increase to reduce side effects but it does help me a lot. I still want to take adhd meds though because I’m back to feeling unmotivated. Has this happened to anyone else on stimulants? What did you end up having to try instead?
