From my experience, OCD makes you feel like you're going crazy and I'm pretty sure this is a common fear to have. Without trying to give too much reassurance here, I believe people who are actually experiencing psychosis are not aware that what they're experiencing isn't reality. With OCD, we're under so much stress partly because we are well aware that what or minds are producing isn't right.

Hey bud, this is my most current permutation of OCD. I’ve had other obsessions before. The best thing to do is exposure therapy. So working with my therapist, I created scripts and exercises around vocalizing or imagining the worst possible outcome. Like I lose control, I’m in the psych ward. Unaware that I’m insane. I listen to these scripts. I also avoid avoidance, which only reinforces that the thoughts are worthy of being paid attention to. Lastly, you develop mindful awareness and let your thoughts do their thing. You don’t try and change, eliminate, or outrun them. There’s some great resources out there. But ERP therapy and a therapist are available to help through this app.

Thanks I am going through ERP right now and it’s helpful for the most part. I just find that I’m still so hyperaware and questioning all my thoughts. Looking for “delusions” and so aware of my sight and hearing that I see every movement out of corner of eye or each distant sound that I would have typically ignored. All to “prove” my obsession true. It’s exhausting but I know it’s part of the process.

@Drepet123 Yep, I’ve done the exact same thing. It will get better and you’ll notice it decreases as you get more habituated and mindful.

What is the fee for the sessions, is there a sliding scale and how do you know they are accredited?

@Madskills422 My insurance covers them so I pay like $20 and it’s a licensed OCD therapist who specializes in ERP therapy.

@Drepet123 How can you verify the credentials. I've never done online therapy. Does RBC green shield cover it ?

@Madskills422 I have no idea. It’s not online, mine is in person where I live.

@Drepet123 Oh, I thought the service offered through this app is online

@Madskills422 Through the app it is, but I didn’t go through the app. I just looked for a provider within my area who was accredited and who accepted my insurance.

@Madskills422 Yes, they’re all licensed and verified. It is a sliding scale and could be as little as $50.

Yeah. OCD makes me “on” and hyperaware. Sometimes I’ll be watching a show and I’ll pause it to make sure the weird sound or whisper I heard is just coming from the show and I’m not hearing things. Or if I focus on silence for too long, I swear I’m hearing something. It’s exhausting lol

Exactly! I’ve learned that there’s really no such thing as true like silence. Your mind fills in noise etc. so I thought I was losing it but my psych said that’s all normal. Who knew.

@Drepet123 Yeah, your brain cannnot register silence so you’re never really hearing “nothing”
