Have you heard of the DEAF technique? it's very helpful. when you notice the frightening thought: Distinguish as OCD. Embrace uncertainty. Avoid compulsions. Float. (do nothing. be passive. float in the now like a leaf on a still lake)

No I haven’t .. I’m working on it .. my compulsions are so bad I’ll hear a tv in the next room and literally get up and go make sure the tv is really on .. I’ll open the door and open it again to make sure it made the same sound ??♀️

@ bp224 that sounds tough! try the technique next time and see if it helps. when you hear the TV in the next room, be DEAF to it. good luck!

@Mr Unshackleton Man ... I never knew this was a form of ocd until psychiatrist said it.. I’m amazed by how many people have the same fear..

I had the same fear once upon a time and I was extremely convinced that I had it. I even felt some symptoms too! I went to the doctor and found out it’s my good old ocd and it’s making me think like I feel those symptoms. Even when he reassured me, the fear did not go away. I was put on meds and it eventually faded until a new obsession took over it. Ocd makes you believe all kinds of lies.

are you doing exposures? you have to accept that it could happen and be alright with that. it's out of your control. I have the same issue but it has eased after a few exposures and a bit of acceptance, thankfully! There is another thread or two on this on here

Yessss! I’ve seen the psychiatrist and currently in therapy .. I did one exposure with my therapist and I cried .. also I just joined this local ocd support group and the man that teaches it is real deal with the exposures so I know I’m on the right Path! It’s just the fear creeps up so bad sometimes when I’m not thinking about it I’m absolutely great!

You’re doing all you can right now. Which is going to therapy and working with a specialist towards getting better. Trust the process. I’m working on this theme now, and did an exposure of staring at myself in the mirror for ten minutes. Also, I wrote this script, you can use it for exposure if it helps you! I wrote it and then recorded it. I listen to it for thirty minutes a day until it bores me. “It is possible that the thoughts I'm having are the beginning of a full-blown psychotic episode. When I notice someone looking at me or walking close to me, I might believe they're following me. Any other unusual, bizarre, coincidental or strange thought might mean I'm going to lose control. My lack of sleep or issues with sleep may cause me to become psychotic. If I develop psychosis, it may ruin my life. I might lose my job, my house, my children, and my friendships. If I place myself in situations that trigger my obsessions, it might make me more likely to be psychotic.”

@CSquared I just really am so upset that I allowed myself to become obsessed with this fear ..

@ bp224 All you can do is confront it and work towards being more well. Just like other obsessions, this one can come and go as well.

@CSquared Yea you’re right most of my obsessions in life have revolved around my health
