Yes! I was prescribed buspar to take when a panic attack would pop up, it would work with my Lexapro which I would take everyday. It would kind of hop onto the lexapro and work very well for panic attacks. I don’t know what it’s like to take buspar by itself everyday though

Thank you so much! I am taking 10mg twice daily along with 200mg of sertraline daily. Did you get any negative side effects?

I used to take buspar! I took it two separate occasions. The first time I took it for about 4 weeks. It didn’t start working until my 3rd week on it then it really started helping me. The second time I took it for about a couple weeks and it started working a day or so after starting. When it was actually working I felt amazing - I didn’t experience any physical affects of anxiety and the intrusive thoughts went away! My main problem (which could have been a personal thing) was that after a week of it working, every time I took it I would experience lightheadedness, like it literally felt like I was going to pass out and it lasted about half an hour. I explained this to my doctor and she said I was probably experiencing late-term side effects of the medicine so it was best to stop it all together. That was my personal experience with it though so could be different for you!

Thank you so much! That’s unfortunate that you had to stop especially sense it seemed to work very well for you. Thank you for replying

I just searched up buspar on here and found this. Sorry its from so long ago but I just got prescribed buspar but read it doesnt help ocd much just the anxiety. I heard it only works along with something else. Is that true or can you take it alone and it work for intrusive thoughts?

In my experience it took the edge off some, but it ended up not being enough for me. Everyone is different though. What really worked for me with my OCD is sertraline and Abilify together.

@Kls2121 In my experience, it didn’t stop the thoughts but it calmed me down a little bit so I can handle them better if that makes sense?

@alyssaw13 Does your other med stop the thoughts or just calm them down as well?

@Kls2121 Honestly the abilify worked wonders for my OCD. Like the thoughts happen less, but also when they do, I’m much less bothered by them. Like it’s easier to stop the cycle of the thoughts and the “checking”. Of course, I have some unwanted side effects too though. But it’s worth it to me.
