There is actually a correlation between anxiety disorders and intelligence levels. The OCD mind is like a dark superpower. Can be used to torture us or, once in recovery, can be used to do amazing things!

It’s more that those of high intelligence are more prone to anxiety disorders than that anxiety somehow causes high intelligence. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting correlation

@NOCD Advocate - Katie Here's one I found. It conflicts and is a stronger methodology. It makes me curious how the Mensa population differs from average. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/28864868/

@NOCD Advocate - Katie The one you sighted is working from the reverse premise: does having OCD lead to higher intelligence? The answer is likely no. The survey I highlighted above is showing that of those with high intelligence, a higher percentage than the average population have a mental health disorder. This was what I was initially commenting on above. There seems to be a correlate between intelligence and anxiety among those who are highly intelligent, not that someone’s OCD will somehow cause intelligence to increase

@NOCD Advocate - Katie So the original poster’s comment doesn’t hold much water according to existing studies, but among those who are already considered high IQ, there does seem to be a correlate

@Sunrise22 Gotcha! It's cool how the direction of connection matters so much. The details are important ? I love research

@NOCD Advocate - Katie It’s very odd that the information has such a large discrepancy depending on which way the flow of information is going. I am also somewhat surprised on an anecdotal level because I feel like a lot of the most intelligent people I know are highly anxious

@Sunrise22 It's often easier for intelligent people to communicate it.

@Sunrise22 Also, I think it has to do with sizes of groups compared to each other and whether you're leaving oking at extremes or averages
