The main difference I think would be the mental rituals and compulsions

You have to be careful about “all or nothing thinking”. Your thoughts are not forcing you to be something. Be open with your therapist about your thoughts and feelings to get the most out of a session.

But what if she tells me that there is no thing such as hocd? And that I'm just denying it. That would seriously kill me

I'm actually concerned about the fact your therapist is denying you have OCD. Are they specialized to treat this condition?

I hope they do understand, but I'm very scared that they won't because my doctor said that I'm a hypochondriac. Therefore I'm go see a therapist. But with health OCD (the reason why he calls me a hypochondriac) feels literally the same as my HOCD and POCD except for the theme. I'm constantly checking things on the internet and constantly thinking about those themes. I'm scared of them saying it does not have anything to do with OCD and that I'm just a hypochondriac. That would mean that my HOCD and POCD thoughts are true. I know it's a bit weird but I don't know how else I should explain it.

@maxt32 If I'm understanding correctly, you haven't even seen them yet. If not, then please trust the process. Just go in and be completely honest about everything, and they will help you accordingly. This condition makes you distrust people sometimes. Don't worry and try to have faith that they will understand.

@NickC Yes I did not see them yet. You're right about trusting the process. I hope they'll understand me.. Only thing that is pretty fucked up is that I, myself don't even believe I have Pure O. My whole life has become doubt..

Think of symptoms like stars in the sky. A diagnosis is like a constellation. It's a named pattern of stars. If someone else looks at the same night sky and notices a different constellation than you notice, that doesn't mean that the stars in your constellation don't exist. It just means that you each organized how you interpret those stars a different way.

Thanks Katie. You explained it in a really understandable way. Will try to look at it from this perspective

I feel this way exactly but in the way that I’d rather be gay than straight. I have HOCD but in the way that I fear I’m straight and that I got it wrong when I was younger. Also have the WORST POCD. I really resonate with what you’re saying. Stay strong, you’re a good person ?

Yesss I fear that too. Cause my therapist told me I could possibly have gad but I kept saying I do have ocd so I think I’m diagnosed with ocd
