I’m diagnosed with GAD and my anxiety was spiked when my intrusive thoughts started. I have both, like sometimes I’ll just feel anxiety and feel like everything is going wrong and other times I’ll have anxiety over the intrusive thoughts. My GAD can cause my OCD thoughts to spike as well. GAD can cause obsessing over thoughts, as well!

Do you take medication?

GAD is diagnosed when you have near constant anxiety about pretty much everything. Similar to depression, you are diagnosed GAD by a psychiatrist if you’ve spent more time anxious than not over the course of two weeks. Many times GAD can occur with OCD which is the case for me

Over worrying, fearing the unknown, and possibly having panic attacks or anxiety episodes because of it. It’s pretty common though some people have it more severely than others.

Well, every kind of ocd has some kind ofintrusive thought, fear, or obsession. Do you have anything like that, or are you just generally worried about things?

I’m no doctor but there seem to be elements of GAD and maybe OCD in those worries. I would urge you to see a therapist or psychiatrist that specializes in OCD and anxiety disorders and tell them what you’re going through. They will steer you in the right direction

I can tell you that fear over family members safety, and also fear of developing mental illnesses are both common themes. I’ve had both of those. I have also compulsively researched and googled. You’re not alone!

This is gad or ocd?

Feeling fear about a developing a mental illness, and then googling mental illnesses as a compulsion sounds like OCD. However, you could have GAD as well. They are very similar disorders and often occur at the same time. Only your doctor can confirm though

I think it could fall into both, because GAD can cause obsessive thoughts. Just know that the official diagnosis doesn’t matter too much, the truth it you are suffering from intrusive/obsessive thoughts and trying to reassure yourself through googling. ERP can help both GAD and OCD and many other anxiety disorders. Even if you haven’t been diagnosed, the symptoms sound like OCD and ERP is what helps people recover, so I suggest trying that! Try not to get so hung up on the diagnosis because in the end, recovery is what matters. Accept the thoughts as possible and try not to google symptoms. Have you heard of ERP?

It sounds like you have an anxiety disorder but nobody here can tell you what you have. Pure-O and GAD can look very similar. Only a psychiatrist can properly differentiate between the two.

Like 0823 said, regardless if it’s GAD or OCD, they can both result in that symptom so it’s hard to say. However, they are both treated the same way. Via Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and ERP

@bisos Schizophrenia is a pretty common OCD theme. But like Francis says, they’re both treated the same. It’s almost like splitting hairs. If you’re diagnosed with OCD, it’s pretty standard to obsess on whether or not it’s OCD.

Wish you the best! I’m sure your doc will have a good plan. Keep in mind, GAD can get just as bad as OCD, so I wouldn’t say having it is necessarily better than the other. Your doctor will give you some helpful techniques like CBT and ERP
