I find I have to tell myself to do something else with my brain instead. Crossword puzzle, humm a song, talk to a friend about Grey's anatomy, etc

I picked up on word searches, but my compulsions still stay in the back of my mind.

This is like me. For the past 14 months I haven't been able to stop thinking about the same thing. It's there from the minute I get up till I go to bed and it's been horrendous. The last four weeks there I managed to manage them and the definitely reduced, but they are back now and seem worse than before. Does this ever go away? X

Yes we can’t wish it away and it feels worrying to think we will have it our whole life but with proper help you can learn to manage it and take it along with you, you can still live a fulfilling life even if it doesn’t feel like it

Do you's get intrusive loops where all you think about is the same thing and try to push it out, try to argue with it etc? I just feel its a constant battle and that it will change me :-( x

That’s what I’m going through. Stuck on a single theme for half a year or so. I live everyday with worry, it’s exhausting honestly. I’d kill for just one day of peace of mind.

Just remember no matter how much how much you think about something it’s not going to change who you are, I could think and think about being a millionaire but I’m not

I have pure O as well. What helps me feel better most of the time are distractions. But distractions are not always good for me either. Sometimes its it's better if I allow my self to think the thoughts and let them pass, because they will pass. Remember what Normally fuels the thoughts are how much stock you put into them. If you try to let the thoughts pass, overtime if your like me you will eventually stop thinking them.

Not fully, you learn to manage it better. OCD is not like a cold, it doesn't go away. It's a life long disorder. I'm in my 40s now, I have been dealing with it all my life. You have to accept that it's part of you and learn to manage it. Think of it like diabetes.

Well mines has been going round for 14 months. I have had weeks were it is almost gone and I think no way what am I worrying about then it comes back with a vengeance and I have to start trying to fix myself again. It's horrible and scary. You just want to switch your brain off and say be quiet for a minute just for a bit if relief x
