The real event OCD makes you look over a past event again and again in you head. While learning from the past is necessary for humans, real event OCD gets you stuck over that memory and confessing the guilt seems appropriate here but it only makes the guilt go away for a short time. The guilt you feel in respone to these obsessions seems 100% correct and it makes you to convince that you must not receive help. Differentiating real event OCD from your life is an important step towards growing as a person. OCD will not leave you even if you feel guilty and it will use it with the doubt for you.

Would talking about it to me help? I have done a lot of things related to depression and bpd that I feel incredibly guilty for and I know it’s not easy. Guilt can be all-consuming it’s probably one of the emotions I feel strongest

Yes, I would like to come clean to atleast one person. I hope you do not hate me. Please link your email.

@AlwaysHere I'd suggest reframing it from "coming clean", which reinforces the guilt, to experimenting to see if your catastophic predictions are accurate. Make this a test of your OCD's claims, not a confessing compulsion

@NOCD Advocate - Katie at this point, i don’t exactly believe that i am attracted what i think i am. i’m just guilty for what i’ve done, and i keep repeatedly asking myself why i did it, which traps me.

@AlwaysHere I will not hate you. Everyone makes mistakes in their life, some affect us more than others. You can’t change the past but you can change your future. There are chunks of my life that I really wish I had handled differently, but I know that dwelling on the past will only hinder me from being the person I want to be. I know it’s not easy, especially when you throw OCD into the mix, which is why acceptance of what happened is a crucial step in recovery. Know that by accepting what happened, you’re also accepting that you can learn from your experience and accepting that you can be the person you want to be, which will make the process of healing a little less daunting.

@Emmaaaahh I will add my e-mail but please don’t view it as a confession. You don’t have to confess to me. You don’t have to confess to anyone, but I know sometimes having someone to talk out your anxieties with (especially if it’s something that is really distressing you) can help a lot. My email is gingerlucy2727@yahoo.com. Just remember that “coming clean” about something can be a compulsive behaviour (I do it compulsively sometimes)

Are there actions you are doing that reinforce the guilt and shame?

No, i am not sure what to do. I cant tell anyone. So i just sleep all day, the only thing keeping me going is the thought that I can end my life at any time i want.

@AlwaysHere Avoidance teaches your brain that the thoughts and feelings are truly horrible. Continuing to do normal activities (which is hard now because if COVID) teaches your brain that the thoughts and feelings are less important
