That’s awesome you’re going to start therapy! I believe therapy is the number 1 thing you can do for OCD and anxiety. Number 2 being diet. How’s your diet?

Can you elaborate more on diet and connection to OCD and anxiety? My diet has gotten worse since this virus started with just staying home and constantly snacking

@Evelyn4416 I believe diet is the 2nd biggest lever to pull (1st being ERP and ACT) 3rd being adequate sleep and 4th exercise. But, I’ll elaborate on diet more.. There are many doctors and researchers who work in the field of psychiatry that now believe people with mental disorders may be suffering from gut disruption AKA leaky gut. So foods like grains, sugary foods and sometimes even plants are disrupting the gut barrier, which then triggers the immune system to release cytokines which leads to metabolic dysfunction. So things like anxiety, OCD, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia may be the result of overactivation of the immune system or metabolic disorder. So we are almost compared to diabetics. What do diabetics do when they feel like crap? They eat a bunch of sugar! Or junk food. Why? Because it makes them feel better. All the glucose in their body in return will produce insulin. As a sufferer with OCD and anxiety I know I feel a whole lot better when I consume sugar when I’m having a panic attack or feel on edge. And now researchers are saying this is exactly how benzodiazepines and anti-depressants work. They make you feel better short term. But have you ever noticed that these drugs can make you gain weight or just make you feel better short term. Why do people usually end up switching medications or have to take medication long term? This is all starting to make sense to me. So I’ve been trying out a Ketogenic/Carnivore diet and I feel like a different person on days I eat like this. I still have my days where I eat some junk food lol. Which will happen. It’s a part of life. But I’m starting to feel like I’m hitting a new gear. Sorry for the long post, but it’s amazing how something simple like diet can make you feel so much better.

@Evelyn4416 Also, you can look up psychiatrist like Dr. Paul Saladino or Dr Chris Palmer for more info on Ketogenic/Carnivore diets. All the information blows me away!

it’s honestly anything i can hold down. the only thing i keep consistent is iced coffee everyday haha i know caffeine makes anxiety worse but it helps me feel full cause it’s an appetite suppressant. yesterday had some cucumber though so i was proud of my self. today i had a little bit of rice. im working on building a healthier diet. im not overweight at all, but i do need to be eating better.

@zoya When you say that’s the only thing I can hold down.. does that mean you get sick because of anxiety? Or do you have a digestive problem of some sort?

If for some reason you can’t get an appointment with him, make sure you one somewhere else with a OCD specialist who utilizes ERP. Congrats on this big step.
