I’m almost positive that I do have comorbid Borderline Personality Disorder and OCD at the same time if that’s what you’re referring to. I have had a couple of therapists and a psychiatrist diagnose me with both.

Do you self sabotage?

@hateocd123 I self sabotage in some ways. When it comes to women, if I really like someone, I often find a way out of it because I’m scared I’m not good enough. I find something wrong and find a way out. That’s just one example.

Hey out of curiosity how do you manage your BPD?

@ma345 It’s a struggle but I was on quetiapine at my worst (which I still take sometimes if I need to) which helped massively in controlling my emotions and I’ve done group therapy and CBT where I learnt some pretty helpful strategies. I still have a way to go though

@ma345 Also there are lots of little, short term things I find helpful. I think one of the most recommended treatments is DBT which I’ve done a little bit of and probably found to be the best treatment so far :)

@sabwls Oh you were on Seroquel? If you don’t mind me asking, why were you on that specifically? I’m on an antipsychotic too. I’m on Zyprexa (Olanzapine). It helps a little bit it’s incredibly sedating. I’m on a lot of meds actually lol but we picked Zyprexa to help with some of my anger and aggression problems. I have tried some DBT too before and am very familiar with it. Which DBT skills have you found most useful? If you don’t mind me asking of course.

@ma345 I don’t mind answering any questions! I was originally on Risperdal but I had a bad reaction to it so I got put on Seroquel. It was mainly to help level out my intense emotions and it also works well for OCD when combined with an SSRI. Do you find Zyprexa is good at controlling anger and other intense emotions? I do find that I get pretty drowsy and out of it when I’m on Seroquel, though if I take it at the right time It’s definitely manageable and not too bad. I think the benefits outweigh the negatives for me! How did you find DBT, was/is it helpful? I’ve not done much but I found it useful to try and learn to just accept and recognise my emotions without trying to change how I react to them. Also knowing that how I respond actually makes sense was really eye opening as I’d always thought that my reactions were bad and wrong and then from there it’s much easier to change unhelpful behaviours into better ones. Hope that makes sense!

@sabwls Oh that’s interesting. I was thinking about asking my psychiatrist to put me on Risperdal instead of Zyprexa cause Risperdal has more research supporting it for OCD treatment. I do think Zyprexa helps me a lot with my anger and intense emotions. I’m also on mood stabilizers (Lithium and Lamictal). I technically have “Agitated” Depression meaning that I’m not necessarily bipolar, but my symptoms can morph into mania if my mood isn’t properly stabilized before going on an SSRI. But yes I do think Zyprexa helps me I just wish it wasn’t so sedating. What SSRI are you on? I’m on Prozac. I find some of the acceptance skills from DBT to be most helpful and I also meditate. It takes a lot of practice but it works well if you apply the skills. I also applied the TIP skill the other when I thought I was going to have an anger outburst at my dad and stepmom. T= Temperature (change your body temperature by submerging your head under cold water), I= Intense Exercise, P= Paced Breathing, or Paired Muscle Relaxation. Out of this acronym, I did the intense exercise (I went on a brief but really fast run). I also took a couple Vistaril to help calm me down further. But TIP works well for me. And Vistaril has a nice calming effect when you’re anxious but it’s also very sedating! Besides those skills, I’m going to look into some of the DBT emotion regulation skills. All of the DBT worksheets are available online as a PDF if you just google DBT Skills Manual. Check it out! And spread it to others who deal with BPD or intense emotions lol.

@ma345 I wasn’t on Risperdal for very long but when I paired it with Zoloft I had a manic episode out of nowhere. I think it was more the combination than anything else though. Now I’m on Prozac too, I think it’s pretty good. Oh yeah I really like paired muscle relaxation, that’s usually my go to. I find the TIP acronym really useful for crisis management. I’ll definitely check the skills out- thanks a lot!

What dosage of Prozac are you on? Yeah I had aggressive anger outbursts and manic episodes on Zoloft too. I’m on 40 mg of Prozac but my psychiatrist wants to go up to 80-100 mg. Do you meditate at all?

I was on 40mg for ages, but now 20mg as I think Seroquel works so much better for me then Prozac ever did. I also prefer psychological therapies. Oh I never heard of anyone else getting a reaction like that to Zoloft! I used to meditate everyday for about 30/40 mins but I’ve not been doing it nowadays. I still do it before bed every night but I think I’ll start doing it in the morning again. Do you meditate?
