Stephen are you a christian? I’m excited to start the erp with one of the therapists
I am a Christian. So happy you are excited! They are great.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Awesome! Would there be anyway to have a conversation with you? I have the same subtypes as you and would love to talk about your symptoms etc
@chancerod Sure. Can you email me: stephen@nocdhelp.com Have you tried getting ERP therapy from an OCD specialist therapist?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Im starting that now next with with a NOCD therapist. I will email you!
@chancerod Great! Let me know at any point if you need anything in that process
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith @NOCD Advocate-Stephen Smith hey I have the same case as u I really would love to talk to u about ur journey
@oumich It’s nice to know we are not alone. Reach out whenever you’d like.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Wow. Have you found anything natural herbs viramins foid etc that helps ocd. That is good to know. I am to.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Good to know you are a Christian like me. I would like to kniw more about Erp.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith How can I find aChristian Erp therapist?
@Mplynch71 hey supplements (herbs and vitamins) that help me so much are ashwagandha, lithium orotate, vitamin d, biotin, and fish oil. ashwagandha and lithium changed my life
Hi Stephen! I have really and anxiety. I too, at one point was housebound. Agoraphobia is what I had. I’ve been to several counselors and have not found anything really effective. Before getting started with NOCD I wanted to ask if this would be a good place to start. I suffer a lot from having intrusive thoughts such as having a heart attack. I’m pretty determined that I’ll have a heart attack with or without panicking and I hate being far away from safety “hospital, home, easy escapes.” Before starting I really wanted to see if it was more of OCD that I was suffering from or anxiety related issues. I would like you thoughts on it if you didn’t mind. Thank you for this incredible platform.
@Anonymous Is that necessary to you? I don't see why it would impact the effectivity or anything.
What if one can't afford therapist?
@AJ How much ashwaganda do you use?
@AJ How many milligrams did you take
Do you offer therapy overseas? I'm in London Also I listened to your interview on the Ocd stories and it really helped me. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much. Unfortunately not yet due to telehealth laws, but my team and I are working on it.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith What about Canada? :)
I am from Bangladesh. How can i get this ERP therapy.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Any news regarding erp services overseas ? Romania here :)
@vnssdvl Do you work with somekne in Texas
@vnssdvl Canada here too
Mindfulness is a tactic used to help people with OCD respond to their thoughts in a non compulsive way. It also helps them in general live healthy. So, when you think of OCD treatment think of Exposure to your fear (the E in ERP) and Response Prevention (RP, in ERP)- preventing yourself from trying to push the fear and anxiety out of your head. The response prevention is really important, since if you stop doing the actions to push the fear out of your head, you end up telling the fear “you aren’t that important anymore” and it eventually doesn’t grip your life anymore. To help with response prevention, our clinicians are all taught ACT principles, mindfulness, and more.
Am I supposed to think of the worse possible scenario in my mind and then just let it be? What if that affects the way I normally think?
@LOLAK OCD is horrifying because the more you try to disprove the worse case scenario in your head the more the worst case scenario stays in your head.. an OCD specialist therapist will help you learn how to manage these fears in a way that doesn’t affect how you think
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I met with a therapist one day, then I felt I could manage on my own because I was reading, the problem is that when I feel I get to trigger the anxiety on my own, I don’t get anxious enough it’s like my mind knows that I am trying and doesn’t get anxious. I get really bad when it suddenly pops up.
@LOLAK It’s strange it comes and goes in ways that makes me feel I don’t have control
@LOLAK Was the therapist an OCD specialist therapist who does Exposure and a Response Prevention?
Just checking on the status of Wisconsin nocd therapy. Thanks for all you do.
Hi! The state is not yet open, but with new telehealth laws, it could open soon
Wisconsin in open!
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Stephan, could you add an ROCD support group? I think many of us would benefit
@loveisanopendoor I agree!
Is there any help in the UK? Thanks a lot!
My team and I are working on it!
I really need help i been suffering with this condition for 10 years and feel like its getting worse. I think i always had ocd when i was a kid but it wasn't as bad. Now im 30yrs old and a father of 2 beautiful girls and with this problem that i have i can't even be around my own kids because i fear i would do something bad to them. I feel horrible when they try to hug me and be around me i push them away or i try to be as far as possible from them i never imagined my life like this. This is taking over my life. I really need help but don't know what route to take. Please help me i need help i love my kids so much that it breaks my heart that i can't be the father that i know i could be
It’s imperative to find an OCD specialist therapist who does ERP
Get on a script called Luvox. It will make the intrusive thoughts go away for the most part.
@Doforlove14 Does it make you feel any different?
@Doforlove14 How’re you doing now?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Hi Stephen. Is there a self-help workbook you can recommend where you can’t find a specialist in ERP?
Did you suffer from HOCD or any gay or homosexual intrusive thoughts resulting in a lot of anxiety/panic attacks?
Sexual intrusive thoughts are the worst.
Suffering from it nowadays. Its worst. And can’t afford therapy
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Do you still have intrusive thoughts
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Do you still experience intrusive thoughts
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Do you still have intrusive thoughts
I am so excited to start this program! I’m 36 and have struggled for 25 years, and being home alone with covid has made my symptoms even worse. I am so optimistic about the program, and a wonderful first intro session today. This is the first time a therapist really understood what I was going through! I hope in 2021 I can get my life back and hours of my day I spend on rituals. Would love to connect with others starting their ocd recovery journey!
So great to hear! If you need anything during your treatment journey, please know our team is here.
Perfect! I have a call set up for my 18 year old daughter at 3:35 pm. Thanks so much for starting this platform! I work as a school counselor in Tennessee and see many students and parents who could benefit from your service. I will definitely be sharing with them in my practice as a school counselor. take care! Bill Ritterskamp
Great Bill. If there’s anything my team and I can do to help, or if you need anything along the way, feel free to send me an email directly Stephen@nocdhelp.com I’d like to make sure your daughter has an optimal experience.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you so much Stephen! We got the first intake appointment set up yesterday. We were super impressed with the initial phone call! The women who called us had such a soothing voice and was very pleasant to talk with as she adressed our questions and concerns! She set us up for intake with Davita and gave Sarah access to her even before the first appointment! You are an answer to a lot of prayer and a real blessing to our family! thank you so much! Take care! Bill
@billritty Thanks Bill. Do you know who you spoke with? I’d love to give our care team that feedback, as they are working so hard to help people get access to therapists best for them.
I'm looking forward that this app would be available in Asia soon. A lot of people needs help outside the US. Love from the Philippines. ❤️??
Thanks for sharing! We will try to get there one day
You’re a hero. My HOCD was plaguing my mind every single minute of the day. Now I’ve found an escape route that works for the long term. Thank you for making this app. Now I know that I’m not alone!
Thank you so much for joining us!
I know someone who was prayed for and is delivered from OCD racing negative thoughts it truly happened through Jesus Christ Almighty. The person has been delivered for about 20+ years and said they never thought their mind could ever be so clear. It's a true miracle. They said their mind would be filled with negativity (racing thoughts) and they would have to do rituals and even was a checker. Her life was miserable she said but now she is free. Whom the Lord Jesus Christ Almighty set free is free indeed. Amen. Just want to say there is hope and there's a lot of people who suffers from it but hide it. You're not alone and there is hope whether through God or CBT getting the help to overcome it s the key.
So happy to have you hear with us spreading love and positivity
can you add a private chat feature please? as not everyone feels comfortable with talking outwardly on a public forum :)
We are adding it only for NOCD advocates. The hard part about private chat in this setting is the monitoring. We want to keep the community as safe as possible for people. Does that make sense? Would be curious to get your thoughts
Hey Stephen. Is there a possibility of adding a page for donations for therapy for people that can’t afford it? I would love to run a social media account spreading the word and ask for donations to get more people therapy!
Am I going to be judged for my lifestyle decisions? I made an appointment for therapy from NOCD but I’m scared of being judged...
You won’t be judged. All of our therapists are specialty trained to treat OCD and our leadership team is very involved in managing our network of therapists. Therefore, know that if you sign up, you can contact me at any time for anything.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Our only goal is to give people with OCD the opportunity to get better and then to stay better.
There is value in hard and consistent work!!! TY!!
Sometimes it feels like no one is doing anything or talking about ocd- thank you for making this app! I really appreciate your efforts :)
Thanks so much! Hope we can help.
This gives me so much hope
Glad to hear!
This bought tears to my eyes I’ve been on my last string of hope because of how badly ocd and anxiety attacks have ruined my life I came across a post on Reddit and everyone talking about their experiences and the link to this site, part of me said why not give it a chance before just giving up completely I was a very close to not being here 2 days ago thank you so much for this. I tried getting in contact with OCD centers but they definitely didn’t support a good amount of insurance it was so stressful
We’re so glad to still have you here 💛 NOCD has helped me so much and I pray and hope it’ll be amazing for you as well. Welcome to the road to recovery!
We are glad that you are here. How are you doing now? What can we do to help? Know life may be tough but we are here for you. We love you and are praying for you. Let us know how we can help and we will try!
I am from Florida. So happy I am going to start therapy next week after all the years of suffering. At 55 I am ready !!!
Happy you are here with us. Hoping we could be helpful for you
Stephen, words cannot express how thankful I am for you and all you have accomplished. You reached out to me over Facebook 3 years ago while developing this program and I had been recovered through ERP for a couple years at the time. I recently have had an OCD relapse as I have experienced significant stress in my life as of late. I never thought I would need ERP again and I pray most do not but I do...as I have hit some really difficult life situations. With that being said... I thank God for you and the community you have built. Stephen, I'm blown away. I hope that one day I can make half as much of a positive impact on this world as you and your team have. Thank you for your heart and passion for others.
Your inspiration a few years back helped keep us going. Thank you for the kind words! Our team is working hard to transform OCD treatment each day.
OCD seems kind of like a bully it tells you if you don't do this something bad will happen. Just like a bully would say if you don't do bwhat I tell you I'm going to do something bad to you. But when you stand up to the bully and refuse to do what he says it goes away and you see your fears was all for nothing
That’s true !
Stephen, I am sitting here in tears. Right now you are a Godsend to me. I was losing hope in finding therapy in my area. I was feeling frustrated that OCD is prevalent, but finding a therapist was proving to be near impossible. Please know how grateful I am. Right now I feel a glimmer of hope again - the possibility of feeling like myself again.
We are here for you. If you book a 15 min call with our team we can connect you to a therapist who has been trained in ERP and OCD, as well as who can do live video therapy sessions with you inside the app.
Stephen, thank you so much for the wonderful help and blessings you have brought to so many. 1 am 62 and I am so happy with my new life change with the help of NOCD. It’s never too late to change your life for the better. If you are young, kudos to you for catching and “fixing” it early in life. Never waste another moment of your life with the pain of OCD.
Just joined so am not alone?
Thank you for starting NOCD, Stephen! It's been a game changer for me!
Is insurance covering sessions in Illinois?
Yes United Healthcare
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith What about BCBS?
Is your treatment covered by Medicare?
In some states yes! Depends on the plan
A year and half ago is when I got worse. My dad has gotten cancer, my mom was trying to recover from a stroke, my troubled brother moved in with my parents and he brought his wife and two kids. When my father passed my brother started taking care of everything n not letting me involved. Come to find out he wanted to take my parents money. I have then since change the power of attorney for my mom since she isn’t able to n she then lived with me a bit, n now she is settled in an independent living apartment where her needs are met n she is happy thank GOD, I also forgot to say I got married in the court house while my father was dying. He was happy to know I was safe. This is my second marriage n I am blessed because he is amazing. My first husband n I divorced and he then got sick with cancer after we were divorced n he passed away a few years after. Everything I felt made me stressed and my ocd there. I want to be back to my self. Please help. I have pure o, magical thinking, rumination, it is hard. I am working with a coach to help but I need to get to another better level to get better.
I’m 35 years old
@keri26 Are you currently working with a therapist? Is that something you are interested in?
Hello, this all very new and little amazing to me. l never knew there is so much different kinds of OCD and sadly. I have delt with so many of them in silence and fear of being the only person experiencing these things. I Started seeing a regular therapist about 3 years ago and a physiotherapist. After a 1 or so and serious of events I stop the therapy and meds. It's been a about a year now and I am thinking if I should get back in therapy again.
It’s imperative to see an OCD therapist who does ERP. Sometimes other therapists who don’t specialize will even make you worse- since they will teach you to do your compulsions
@smsmith_14 Yes^
@smsmith_14 Ok yes!! I think this is happening to me too. My therapist did exposure therapy with me once that seemed good but now he’s trying to help me through changing my thoughts. For example he will ask me what I would want to believe instead when I get super scared my house could be broken into, and he told me to repeat to myself “ I am safe” whenever I feel super scared about that. Is this a valid way to treat ocd or no? I feel bad questioning his practices...
I just signed up on NOCD… Thanks for sharing your journey Stephen.
Welcome!
Hi my 13 1/2 year old daughter is really struggling at the Moment. She has started some ERP therapy and is now managing to go into her sisters room, she has several triggers which are bogies, anyone else touching nose, nose breathing, now adding coughing, touching anything anyone else has touched. If say i cough in the night she gets distressed and upset and cries for hours, if she thinks my face is to close to her food( it never is ) she won’t eat it. If l put a cup up to my Mouth and I’m holding handle she thinks as it’s near me face it has touched my Nose , if I lift my shoulder up she thinks it’s touched My nose- there’s No possible way. If dad falls asleep on sofa she won’t go downstairs unless cleaned incase his nose has been on the cushion and then cushion fallen on floor. Each time I try and talk About the ocd she says I am Moaning at her and why can’t she be left to be happy when she is! Although lately she spends most of her time crying saying she can’t do this. She hadn’t been to school 2 weeks before Lockdown and doesn’t care that the ocd won’t let us hug her sit near her go in her room or Let her see her grandparents even from a distance incase they may touch their Nose. Please if an advisor could help it would be appreciated, she is trying to do Some ERP by Skype with the ocd centre, the intensive did Help her go in her sisters room cut showers down ( I though the first day she said she was gonna go in her room it was good as she never goes in there without having shower, cleaning feet but now she hasn’t had a shower for 3 days so am Wondering if it’s another obsession/ avoidance tho b going on? It is so difficult at the Moment with sessions due to corona, she is continuing to have sessions with the ocd centre in UK weekly but as they say the ERP has to come from her and her triggers are basically caused by others- she will never be able to do anything if this carries on as the whole world has to cough sneeze touch their nose etc. Any help greatly received. Many thanks Th whole family is suffering, my eldest daughter is due to come home soon As she has been staying away as she is a keyworker and I am a type 1 diabetic whilst lock down on but she is due to Come home in a couple of weeks and this is going to cause more Problems. Thanks for listening anyone
Have you tried reaching out to any of the charities in the UK? OCD Action or OCD UK?
I also have sexual orientation ocd which is extremely distressing and can’t make someone with ocd have a life that is hard to live and it gets to the point where if u had one wish mine will be to have my life back Please help others that aren’t in the United States like myself I’m Australian and would love if we as a global whole help each other overcome this I beg that you include us in your amazing community Thanks Adam .
@Praise No not yet

@Praise Are they free?
Just a question about the app, how do I become an advocate!
Idk, lol
Contact ilyas@nocdhelp.com
This app will undoubtedly change lives. Thank you for creating and thank you for giving people (myself included) hope for the future!
Thank you so much! We are so happy to have you here with us
Thank you for all you’ve done to help others heal and giving us an opportunity to know we aren’t alone.
Thank you for being here with us!
Hi Stephen. I love this concept and the app. But dealing with getting admin done to get my first appointment organized has been a pain. I’m hoping others don’t go through the same. After having my appointment missed and then being called late they told me they would verify my insurance. I chased 3 days later and was told I need to verify. It’s all extremely disorganized. I’m excited to start therapy again here but thought you should know that this is happening. Thanks for setting this up and being there for us. But please please improve the administrative side of things.
Thank you so much for this candid feedback. I’m so sorry about your experience, and I want to make sure we can improve to make it better. Would you mind if we reached out to you to better understand your experience?
I have not yet met with the therapist I was connected with but I see her on the 24th! This past year I went through a tough break up and I had just gave birth to a surrogacy baby in October then all of a sudden in December I was hit with bad anxiety and depression I was put on antidepressants and in February I was on a 15 th floor in Miami and I got the first intrusive thought to jump and ever since then I have been very fearful and Harm OCD has been so struggling for me, I am as well a believer in our god who created the heavens and the earth, and just kept asking why? Why is this happening to me ....doing more research I have seen a whole community who has been dealing with this for a lot longer then I have and that I am not alone , I am excited to start ERP , I refuse to give up or give in , thank you for this !
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m sorry you have had such a difficult time, but have hope. You took the first step into treatment and that’s amazing. If there’s anything that I can personally do to help you while you are in treatment, don’t hesitate to reach out.
I begin my sessions next week, just filled out the questionnaire and was crying the entire time realizing how true all the statements were for me and how much my day-to-day life is impacted. I am terrified to dive deep and begin this treatment, but I am also so ready to face it head on and I’m so thankful to have this amazing platform. Thank you!!!!
So happy we could help!
I am thankful for the site you created. Clearly it has helped many OCD sufferers including ME!
So happy to hear we can help! Also, thanks for joining us
When you feel so defeated after searching hours for a psychiatric doctor who specializes in OCD just to find out they don’t accept insurance. 400 bucks for one session. ONE. so happy I found this app!
So happy you found us too! Let us know how we can help
I have a similar story, and I went to the OCD center of L.A. but yeah especially right now this is such a great resource. Thank you ?
You have helped me
So happy to hear!
Anyone else feel like they sabotaged themselves by not treating there illnesses when they knew they had it? And then not doing erp because they didn't know better? I went to regular talk therapy which didn't help. Feel like I've lost years of my life and youth.
I went to regular talk therapy before starting therapy with NOCD. Even though what I explained to them was textbook OCD, they never diagnosed me and never brought up how it could even be OCD. It wasn’t until I myself suspected it could be, connected myself with NOCD, then officially got diagnosed and started the proper treatment
You can get better though by going through treatment. It may have taken you a while to get here, but still possible. Check out Ethan Smith’s stories if you need help.
Hello! I just downloaded your app. Thank you for making this app.
Thank you for joining! Hope we can help.
I haven’t heard from you , Stephen
If you need anything from me, please send me an email to Stephen@nocdhelp.com
Yes! OCD only ever TRICKS us into thinking it there is a threat. I am living proof that ERP is effective treatment for OCD symptoms.
Thank you. Thats encouraging 🧡
So encouraging! Thanks for joining our community and helping people
I became a therapist because of my own ocd issues as a child and watching my father suffer with it throughout my childhood. I believe he was misdiagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and his treatment just made him worse. When I tell a client about ocd they sometimes cry with relief that they are not bad people. Most rewarding part of my job.
So happy you can help people with OCD. Misdiagnosis nearly ruined me, so although I can’t imagine the pain your father went through, I can relate somewhat. Thanks for your commitment for helping people with OCD.
Thanks for all you do, I’m hoping NOCD can bill Colorado Insurance soon
Now we bill Humana, Cigna, and United Healthcare!
I have a great therapist I have been working with for two weeks . He goes out of his way to check on me and helps me with my erp . He also will find the answer to a question or problem if he does not know it. Very good NOCD therapist. Been in treatment with him for two weeks. Goes out of his way to check on me .. good guy !!! Spartan
Happy to hear!
Thank u again for this platform because it saved my life
Wow. So happy we could help!
Stephen, so glad you are a Christian! I want to be closer to God but feel I sabotage it. Bless you!
Thank you. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Remember that as you embark on your treatment journey and do ERP with an OCD specialist.
@NOCD ADVOCATE Hey Stephen! Thank you for creating this space and help for others with ocd!! A question that I have and struggle with is where scripture says in 1Corinthians 10 to take every thought captive and make it obedient under Christ. As someone who struggles on the ocd loop of ruminating on an intrusive or unwanted thoughts constantly, would you think that by saying “It’s OCD” is taking the thought captive so as to not analyze and over think about the thought? As we know the more we fight the thought the more it takes hold. Thank you so much!! God Bless and Merry Christmas
It’s OCD may actually be labeling the thought as OCD which is a form of reassurance, from personal experience. Be careful there. What I say to myself, as a Christian man too is “the only way to take the thought captive and make it obedient” is to manage it with response prevention.. that said... A) accept the thoughts existence in your head and B) make it obedient by agreeing with it, vs disproving it... disproving it may feel like you are making it obedient, but it actually makes it disobedient.. accepting the uncertainty behind the throught really makes it obedient long term... just my personal spin, but a clinician would no what to say better
Does anyone have any comments on how to recognize your OCD as the source of a thought or compulsion rather than something else?
OCD specialists can help you identify OCD thoughts and decipher them from other types of thoughts
Maybe zoom meetings can be offered and individuals can have group sessions of 4 or 5 people 2 hr meetings to help encourage each other. Different zoom meeting s booked at different times throughout the day
Good idea! I’ll run it by our clinical team
Do you “match” therapists with clients or simply provide a list with a license in your state? For example, I need someone who has a lot of experience helping an in denial teen on his journey. By no means is he ready to talk about ocd but the hope is maybe to eventually get him there. I just want my son to know he can feel better when he is ready.
We match with therapists. The treatment though is all for OCD symptoms. If you’d like your son to get different treatment to help him in his journey for being in-denial, we might not be the best option for you and we’d be happy to refer you to someone who is better.
Thank you so much for doing this!
Hey! I just wanted to say that your app and the work you've been doing is amazing! It's so nice that you're making treatment more affordable and a reality for so many people! Keep up with the great work ❤️
Thank you so much!
@NOCD Advocate- Steven Smith. I appreciate all the explanations. I'm not sure if it was a recruiter or therapist I spoke to last night but he definitely answered a lot of important questions I had. I'm also very grateful that you offer a payment plan that I can afford. I have not had faith in therapy as I've never received OCD targeted therapy. I do have faith in your program and although I am fearful of the exposure part of ERP, I am willing. As a kid I was hurt very badly. It changed the trajectory of my life and filled me with unbearable fear. I very quickly found that the only way to deal with intrusive thoughts was through alcohol and drugs. I kicked my drug of choice 3 years ago but I've had slips with other substances. These substances, though not as deadly, seem to have the same eventual outcome. They compound and enhance my feelings of worthlessness and constant belief that I will never get better. I had a wonderful girlfriend who is a brilliant scientist and a Harvard professor. For 2 months I was happier than I had ever been. Then the intrusive thoughts came back and I tried but couldn't hold myself together. I fell apart before this womans eyes and the day I left a HORRIBLE state run psyche ward and she was fairly certain I wouldn't hurt myself or worse, she left and now wants nothing to do with me. So now, of course, I obsess about her because how can I ever be ok with myself without the approval of someone outside myself. I have my first 90minute session on February 6th and I am so excited. I don't know what will become of me. My dream is to be a Drug and Alcohol Counselor but I would never even apply for a position until I have mental stability. I don't have much besides a mind that seems to tell me lies and create irrational fears but after reading about NOCD, and your personal story, I have hope. And I don't remember the last time I had that without a partner who cared for me. I'm alone today but I have hope. That bit of hope is enough to fill my heart with gratitude and make me want to fight! Thank you. Sincerely, Will M. Willingness820@gmail.com
Will we will do everything that we can to help you. Our team is here, and our goal is to make sure that you have an excellent experience. If there is ever anything you need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me personally. Thank you for sharing your story.
Stephen, hats off to you, thanks for what you have done and doing. I just enrolled.
I am so glad i found nocd.com. it gives me hope. Our son was diagnosed at age 9. Excessive hand washing us his symptom. The handwashing is not as severe as it was initially. But he was bullied at school and on social media at age 11 and could not go to school because he was so anxious and afraid. We didnt realize how bad the bullying was until a couple years later because he didn't tell us. He is now 20 and housebound. He is super smart and passed his GED 1 yr ago. I have taken him to 10 different therapist telling them he had OCD and asking if they used CBT. They all said yes but did not help him or do CBT. I really hope your app can help him. How would ERP work if done remotely?
Hi, your son is lucky to have a great supportive parent like you! So your son would talk to a therapist and they would create hierarchies where they slowly get exposed to their fears and not react to them.
Love u thank you so much for this app❤️
We are all in this together!!! Blessed to be a blessing!!! I use to wonder and ask God why I had to walk through certain things in my life that were really difficult, ocd being one of them. I realized that he allows us to walk through difficult things to prepare our hearts and minds to walk with others through those same difficult things!! I don’t want others to suffer as I did!!!!
My forever question regarding “why me God” ocd is like a curse
I discovered the app recently and WOW thank you so much, I suffer from the same type of ocd and having a platform that won’t judge my weird thoughts and would understand me makes me feel better ❤️ thank you ❤️
I understand the judgment issue. I will listen if you need someone
I have really bad pure o it’s taken over my life I just want to get better ..
You're not alone. 😁😍
You can do this! When my ocd was at it’s worst, I couldn’t enjoy anything in life. OCD thoughts and compulsions tortured me day and night. No lonjk
No longer. Between medication and ERP, I feel mostly free from ocd. Thanks to my healthcare people. Good luck.
Thanks. Some of the posts I've read are a bit disturbing. I wish there were sub-posts for each OCD category since there are so many variations. At times they can be very impressionable especially now when I'm at my must vulnerable state.
You are right
Exactly! It’s like your brain is like “oh that’s nice, I’ll take that anxiety as well” lol!! I completely agree. It’s like we already have so much on our plate as is
This spoke to me so much. I have been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, BPD, and a few other extreme disorder before eventually my (new) psychiatrist pointed out that it could be ocd. I was so against thinking it was ocd, but after they sent me a symptom checklist, and told me to stop taking toxic advice, I was able to move forward with treatment. I too understand this pain. I was fired from two jobs before someone was able to offer me tangible solutions. I stopped creating (I’m an artist and actor) and couldn’t bring myself to do the things I enjoy most. I couldn’t go to school. And I couldn’t even spend time with my loved one’s- the thoughts and compulsions isolated me and disabled me to such a low point. I’m excited to start treatment with NOCD and claim my life back. I have so many hopes and dreams, and OCD has held me back for too long. Thank you for working hard to advocate for and support people who live with this!! And I’m proud of everyone here who has taken the next step in claiming their lives back too. 💙
I’m beginning therapy with noocd therapist Monday and I couldn’t be more excited! I have ocd pure o- was in remission for years came back this last year stronger than ever! I have no rituals with my intrusive thoughts but my thoughts are so upsetting/paralyzing-I have extreme difficulty in restructuring my thought process when I have intrusive thoughts. I have been in therapy since they began again and I realized my therapist was not effective in CBT/OCD and today she finally admitted its not her speciality and thought I should try an OCD specialist (at first felt offended but realized I have been saying this to family about her for months and she did me a favor by saying it first) . Ironically enough I am also a MH professional in work in a CBT department. I am very open about my ocd thoughts because I don’t want others to feel alone and ashamed as I once did about my thoughts. These are my current intrusive thoughts: -health obsessions (think everything I feel means I’m dying) -fear of losing my mind (going to become schizophrenic) -fear that I harmed someone From noocd I hope to gain the coping skills and strategies to gain my life back! I’m ready!!!
Thank you so much for starting this! The local therapist here has a 9 month waiting list! I have been struggling with an OCD/Phobia of being ill to the point of I am house bound and not living a normal life. All other methods of treatment I have tried have not worked. I am so hopeful this will be the key
Hi I’m new to the app and it looks fantastic! Will i be able to receive the therapy calls if I live in the uk?
Yes I live in the UK, and have had 6 ERP therapy sessions (you have to pay for) already over zoom, and have joined in on 3 group session which are free. Just ask for a 15min call where you speak to someone who decides whether they think you will be suitable for the treatment. Best of luck.
Is there anyone you know and that you would recommend in the UK who provides online therapy for OCD?
Look up a woman named Dr. Alison Stimpson
I need to get better please
Hope we can help you here! Let us know if you have any questions
Yes my treatment is covered. Before this I worked in corporate America and they always covered it, and I had a co-pay. I’m Pastor now and my insurance does the same thing. But I have always been able to find therapists who were willing to work with me as far as payment plans, etc. sometimes it can take some footwork and a while and a lot of prayer, but there are therapists out there Who are willing to help… For a short time I had a therapist who was a Methodist pastor-in the Late 80s – and he let me come to him on a sliding scale and also pay him late and catch up. This was part of his service to God.
That is such a blessing... even ocd therapy was covered from your insurance too? Normally they don’t take insurance
@Ocdaim Well… In the 80s and 90s when I was doing this, they just allowed for a certain amount of therapy sessions a year… They really didn’t care what your therapy was about… I wonder as time has gone by if companies have gotten more jaded about OCD… I have always used the phrase anxiety disorder instead…
You need to find an ocd specialist therapist who does ERP. Often insurance covers non ERP specialists.. big problem
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith My therapist was an OCD specialist who did CBT… All I can say if he was covered by my insurance…
@gojirabill Did they do ERP?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith CBT therapists often teach thought stopping which is a compulsion.. ERP therapists teach accepting the thoughts.. that’s the key
I have the same question as above also! I’m from New Zealand and very hard to get an OCD specialist. Would love to talk to you guys no matter the cost
Hey all! Just had my 90 introductory session today. Really hoping this helps. Love you all...and you can accept that love because I volunteered it; you weren't reassurance seeking. ☺ Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Hey man how was it? Mine is next week and I’m so excited
@Cameron.harris0803 It was excellent. Mostly just an information gathering session, but I was made to feel very comfortable by my therapist and she really made me feel hopeful about the therapy. I wish you the best.
@JoeJr So happy to hear Joe!
@Cameron.harris0803 How did your session go?
Please please get the face to face therapy in england
What type of ocd do you have and where are you based in england
@Bogie harm and in London
@Loi My daughter was an Intensive course and did great during the week but now not so good, don’t know if this is her age and her triggers are what everyone else does so pretty intense and her family and everything in home is contaminated! So you may do well with the intensive it is expensive and can be done via skype - it is the ocd treatment centre in Taunton Somerset
We will keep working on it!
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Hi Stephen, I'm currently on 5 different medications for OCD including 1 springs...I'm guessing that the other ones are supposed to augment it. Am I not supposed to be on any medications for this program? And will this program if done correctly help me to get off of meds?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith *ssri
Thank you for sharing and I’m in avoidance after so many years so I struggle to believe now since it’s the doubting disease I think Religious OCD is very debilitating and depressing and I’m glad when people can afford help
Our goal is to make effective treatment affordable!
Great job
Thanks for joining!
Thank you for having a platform for people who have ocd. It feels very validating to know that there are people who have ocd, like me.
Yes- although OCD feels isolating, none of us are alone. Thank you for joining our community!
We live in Briabane, Australia. Is there anyone who would be able to provide video sessions for that time zone?
Omg I’m from Melbourne haha
Not yet! We are working on international though
Thank you Stephen, This app feels like the first breath of air I have had in two years
There are a lot of resources out there if you are diagnosed with OCD.
@MadLove76 Even if you aren’t diagnosed with OCD, NOCD’s first session is a diagnosis and can help you find out
@smsmith_14 I am diagnosed with OCD. I was just informing people to let them know that there are so many resources available out there for OCD besides this app, including www.iocdf.org, where you can search for therapists, residential treatment centers, support groups, online support groups, organizations, books, videos, etc. The list goes on and on...
That’s funny, “chapters” I am actually in Wisconsin for the summer. I have always wanted to talk to other people with OCD. I also wanted to hear about how when getting older as an adult if it improved!
I’m not too old yet. But some weeks are better then others.
I have never found and app as good as this one. I have always wanted to talk to other people with OCD but didn’t want everyone to know that I had it in case they might treat me differently. And funny thing although A lot of people use this app “chapters” I’m in Wisconsin for the summer rn although your comment was 65 days ago.
We are so happy you are here with us!
I’m still here in Wisconsin.
Hi Steven, I have recently found your podcast and found it so comforting, was wondering if you had an estimate of when this service will be available in the U.K., thank you for your work, it changes lives.
Thanks so much Paige! We are working hard on it. Hopefully by the fall we will be there
Thanks for this incredible app ♥️
Thank you for joining us!
Hey Stephen. Is the therapy christian based? I’m a christian and am looking for a similar world view
Yes we have Christian therapists, if you book a free 15 min call and connect with our team, they can help match you to one
I really hope this app will be available in Italy too. Any good OCD therapist to recommend in Italy? Thanks
Chrissie Hodges might know one! We should be compliant there by the end of this year
Thank you may God bless you always for helping us through this app, I’m feeling better thank God!
Thank you for joining us!
Thanks for the support. I’m sarting to love this app
We love you! Thanks for participating in our community
This site is a gem. Thank you
So happy you are hear! The kind words mean a lot too
In my experience with ERP, it must be done in small increments until you build up tolerance to anxiety. This is where a hierarchy and guidance from a therapist is really useful.
I am so discouraged. I have had scrupulosity and ocd for 30 years. I don’t understand how there is so much awareness of mental health and suicide these days, yet insurance doesn’t cover therapy and the prices keep going up. I have heard that the cost started out at $50 an hour, but has gone up to $123 an hour. From what I’ve read, the cost has more than doubled in less than 1 year. Also, if I’m working full time to try to afford this, some of the appointments have to be during the work day. I think it would be really hard to go back to work after a 1 hour erp session. I’m sorry to be so discouraging, I’m just wondering if anyone else feels this discouragement and how you are dealing with it. I thought I had finally found something that would help me, only to feel discouraged again.
Sorry that you are discouraged! Can we work with you on a payment plan to make treatment affordable?
I feel the same discouragement. The cost is immense. I’m pregnant and have had a resurgence of OCD since getting pregnant, all revolving around the health of my baby. It’s very stressful and feels like the world doesn’t really care when insurance refuses to help.
Hi, I am new. I am trying to help my daughter who has severe OCD not able to function with regular routine of the day. I set up the appointment with NOCD hoping to find some answers and help. I hope you take the insurance Empire BCBS PPO currently live in NY
Hope we can be helpful! We are working on partnering with that plan at the moment
Hey. So I’ve never been diagnosed with OCD, but I feel like I have Harm OCD. When an intrusive thought about me harming myself suddenly popped in my head one day, my body panicked. It went away after a month or so and then reappeared about a year or so later. That went away and then reappeared about another year later as well. I know I’m not crazy. I love living life. I’m just worried what if I do become depressed or what if I do hate life one day? The intrusive thoughts don’t really bother me anymore, it’s just the what if I worry so much I become depressed? Any answers guys? Thanks!
Have you considered getting a diagnostic assessment with a NOCD Therpaist or another therapist that understands ERP?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Yeah I’m going to definitely get one just to see. I’m mainly worried about what if I do have OCD? Can I still live my happy life and enjoy it. I just love living so much. And am such a happy and outgoing person
@brandonp66 OCD is extremely manageable. I have the condition and once I got treatment I was able to finish school, my football career, and start NOCD. Others get better every day too. Couldn’t be happier in my life right now tbh. Life gets much better in fact IMO after managing OCD.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I LOVE YOU STEPHEN
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you for starting nocd Stephen!!! You are great
Thank you for making this App, I jist found out today name of this illness and i am happy to have this community and therapy to helpe amd others who are in similar conditions.

@Ocd=lame Hii
@chandu Hello!
@Ocd=lame @what stage Ur in ocd treatment
@chandu I haven’t started yet. I did some ERP when I was younger but it wasn’t working out for me with my therapist. What about you?
Thank you! Our team has worked hard. 5 dozen people working to help others with OCD at this point. We really want to help people manage OCD more easily.
Thanks for this !! Starting 9/8 and I’m so happy.
How is it going?
This is almost exactly my story. Wow.
Is there anything we can do to help?
Being patient against obsession thoughts helps me a lot to get back to normal. I try to postpone compulsion as much as possible by being patient. Isn’t it kind of ERP?
Yes. Resisting compulsions by postponing them is a common response prevention tactic.
I am waiting for the day NOCD grows so big that they go international, so that I can also access live therapy ❤️
Hopefully this year!
Is NOCD in Washington state? And if my insurance doesn't cover it, can I pay out of pocket? Thank you.
Yes and yes!
You think that erp method is effective for existential ocd ;
Yes. People manage existential OCD with ERP every day
I feel so much better knowing there is a supportive community of people whom I can seek out guidance for my traversal through OCD. Thank you!
Thanks so much!
My intake call with Jose L yesterday was so helpful. He listened and was patient and very informative as I was seeking info for my 18yr old child.
Great! I hope we could help. If there’s anything needed, please let us know
It’s wonderful to see people now able to get the help and support they need !
It’s wonderful! We are working hard so everyone can have an effective, affordable, and convenient OCD Therapy option
Hey, Stephen! Love the amazing initiative you’ve taken to help others get better! I’m from India and I am a little short of money to pay for therapy given therapy can be really expensive. I just wanted to know if there are any alternatives. Thank you and warm regards!
Watch Katie d'ath ocd videos on YouTube. She is an excellent ocd specialist who explains the condition and how to get started on self directed therapy.
@Devinder Great suggestion
Hi Stephen, I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I've been struggling with ocd for more than 10 years. I've tried self-directed ERP therapy many times and at the beginning my motivation is very high and I'm able to conscientiously stick to resisting compulsions. But a few months in, I always end up relapsing, some life stress or complacency sets in and before I know it I'm back where I started, performing compulsions. I understand ocd is a chronic condition but I just can't seem to manage it effectively long term even though I have a pretty good understanding of my obsessions and compulsions. Do you or anyone have any advice on how to persist with therapy and not allow a few setbacks totally undo months of progress?
Best advice is to find a licensed therapist who specializes in OCD. They will help you identify all the actions you to that drive your obsessions (sometimes they are hidden)... also long term try to live as healthy of a lifestyle as possible (sleep, exercise, diet, mediation) those things help a ton!
I’m a Christian too! Can’t wait to get started! From Colorado 😊👍
Hope it’s been helpful!
Gob Bless you
Thank you for being here with us in the community!
I’m a mom of a 17 y/o with OCD, after speaking with the intake representative I knew this was for him. The therapist explained so much just in the first meeting and I’m so happy we have hope now.
I’m so happy to hear that!
Stephen I’m scared. Talking about it might make it worse. I have been assigned Kelly as a therapist.
Kelly was actually my therapist too through NOCD Therapy.. she will help you do ERP.. if you have questions don’t hesitate to reach out to us
Hey Stephen. Thank you for sharing your story. I am so excited to work with you all. I have been suffering very severely with intrusive religious thoughts.
Hope we can help!
I am 55 and have been doing erp for a month, I am working hard to get better .. I have a great therapist , NOCD has helped me a lot. Still have a long way to go but on the right path..... I. Have stopped 90 percent of rituals. Spartan
Keep going! Hope we can help
So my daughterOCD get triggered by certain words. When she doesn’t here she is doing ok. Why is it like that?
OCD manifests in unique ways depending on the person. Does she have a therapist helping her who can explain, who is trained in ERP?
Yesterday and today has been hard. I was doing really good with the help of practices and then my Mom made a hurtful comment and, although I did let her know she hurt my feelings and she told me she didn’t mean what was understood, it still hurt. Since then, I’ve been out of sorts. Now I find myself questioning. I think I had misread what was happening inside of me and defined compulsions as obsessions. I though my obsession was my marriage, for example, but now I’m thinking my obsession is having a personal sense of security/stability/sense of everything is ok. In turn, thoughts of my marriage (as a compulsion: almost like a metaphor of something that is destroyed and then healed) are used to eventually find relief. Does this make any sense?
Yes it makes sense. Are you getting help from an OCD specialist? It helped me when OCD morphed
Stephen, You have created something that is changing lives. Our family is forever grateful for your willingness to seek answers and share triumphs. Thank you to you and Judy Lair will never be enough!🥰
I’m so happy you said that. We love Judy Lair too!
This is a wonderful service. Thank you!
Thanks for joining us!
God Bless everyone!
God Bless you too Justin!
Who suffers from racing random thoughts along with reoccurring intrusive thoughts?
Many people here do
It’s just so hard to push the thoughts back. Like they are really bad. And whenever I feel peace... I question that, too.
Pushing the thoughts back and trying to prevent them from happening isn’t what we want to do as it’s a compulsion and has us gripped into OCD more. It takes time and practice with ERP, mindfulness, etc, but know it does get better and easier! It’s just OCD being OCD
Agreed. Goal is to accept uncertainty of thoughts.
Hi Steven thanks for sharing I have the same exact thing intrusive sexual thoughts tell me a sexual thoughts gender identity thoughts obsessing about it trying to get over it scriptural biblical thoughts it’s been a huge challenge. Thanks for sharing your story so openly
Hope we can help! Also, welcome to NOCD
Your story touched me. Because I can relate in so many ways. I have somatic ocd with breathing. Do I really have a chance at living a normal life again?!
Yes you def have a chance. The key is finding an OCD specialist therapist and doing Exposure and Response Preventjon with them
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you so much I just started with my therapist a week ago so far it’s hard but I’m confident and trusting the process. I appreciate you and this company.
Sucks that there isnt anywhere free to get help for this...kind of very...or actually really sad and pathetic our healthcare isnt on par with canadas...i know people that have gotten hit by a car went to the e.r...in canada...and didnt have to pay a single dime...oh and they had surgery lmao soooooooooo why does the u.s. have to pay for everything and anything medical? Im suffering...and there is no help whatsoever...
We are working on scholarships to help people who can’t afford treatment through treatment. It will take time, but it should be in place by the end of the year. I’m sorry for the frustration and I agree- much of the healthcare system needs to be augmented.
God i hope this works haha
We want to help in any way... our team’s number one goal is to work with you throughout the treatment journey so that we can help you get better. If there’s a point where you need help, reach out to care@nocdhelp.com and one of our member advocates will jump in.
Thanks Stephen! I’m happy you did this for all of us that suffer from OCD.
Our whole team has done it! So many people here care about this problem being solved
@HappyTurtle Yes they are!!! Keep the appointment you will be glad you did!!!! Dr. Jeffrey Schwarz says OCD mimics reality but reality never mimics OCD. Bringing things out into the open is the beginning of healing!!! It is definitely not a waste of time!!!! I am so glad I finally called!!! You’ve got this!!! Keep the appointment!!!!!
Hey I’m 15 years old I’m going through severe symtoms and I need help right away to try and control these thoughts I have. I’ve tried ERP and it hasn’t worked at all. I have worked with many specialists and was hoping this was the app that’s going to help with my ocd.
Then you are not doing ERP correctly. Also if you were on any anti anxiety meds your brain cannot relearn threats.
I am so desperate. I live in Turkey and there are not any qualified OCD therapists that I can afford in Turkey. Reading your story gave me hope, but even this app do not accept international clients, and I really do not know what can I do alone. I even think of committing suicide because I really cannot stand these nasty intrusive thoughts anymore. You said that your mom begged a therapist to treat you, and that is how you got better. Now, I am begging you, please accept international clients. There is no restriction in Turkey regarding teletherapy. Why is it so hard to find someone to treat me? I can't stand this. My life ruined in just 3 weeks, I can't focus properly on my school work. I am only 19 years old. Someone please help me, I do not know how much I can endure this anymore. And please do not send me the International OCD Organization website link. There aren't any OCD therapists listed there from Turkey.
I have the same problem, no therapist worldwide to take me on. Pls offer it!
@TempledOut i really feel so desperate, nobody accepts international clients. i cannot understand the laws regarding this. they are okay to let someone die than to treat them? i am not even asking for a free treatment.
Hey I feel you when you say you can’t stand this, because same, it’s too much too handle and I just don’t know what to do. But just wanted to say that you’re not alone in this. And by the way, i don’t know if you have checked the website www.ocdonline.com , its an OCD center in NY but they have international therapy via Skype. Check it out, one of the members is Dr. Steven Phillipson, he is a recognized OCD specialist. You can watch interviews with him on YouTube. I hope this is helpful. Sending love, you can cope this :)
Hey check this account on Instagram, she is doing ERP worldwide I guess https://instagram.com/kimberleyquinlan?igshid=15q5fr0ay7kb8
Pls pls pls make the teletherapy worldwide.
Hello my name is Caeleb and I came across your app online. I first came across what I believe to be OCD when I had my first serious relationship around a year ago. Everything seemed to be going great for around 6 months until the random thought of my not loving her came across my mind. Normally thoughts like this would usually just come and go (never to do with OCD or anything), this time it was different though. Instantly thoughts kept racing to me and my anxiety levels began to go crazy. Even though she was amazing looking at her made me feel sick to my stomach and full of guilt for feeling like this. I eventually told her I was feeling this way and she definitely didn’t take the idea of me potentially “not loving her anymore” well. At the time I had no idea it was OCD and whenever I was away from her I felt I needed to see her and just hold her to reassure myself. Eventually once she moved into college these feelings made me begin to abuse alcohol to cope and I ended up cheating on her and feeling immediate guilt and regret. I told her and that split things off for sure. It was rough and I missed her for months and couldn’t wrap my head around the fact she was no longer in my life. From that point on I continued abusing alcohol and marijuana at times to deal with that void that I lost. My college roommate and the rest of my friends hung out with females all the time and I hooked up with one girl right once I got to college. We continued to have sex around eight more times or so. Several other girls I also hooked up with but not as far as intercourse as well. I’m not exactly sure how the HOCD thoughts began but I remember having this one thought while i was in the shower and my roommate was on the one on the other side of me and I had the thought of him naked or being able to have sexual intercourse with him if I wanted to. This really freaked me out and I laid in bed for a whole two days straight afterwards and anything gay scared me. I felt like I was losing my identity that I’ve known my whole life. I was so hesitant of looking up how to know if your gay because I was so terrified it was going to point in that direction and I still struggle with having to know certainty. Eventually I came across HOCD and it gave me relief for a day or so. Then all the intrusive thoughts continued and I wasn’t able to depict what was real from what wasn’t. I spend a lot of my time searching the web constantly looking for reassurance and watching straight pornography to show I can still get it up if you know what I mean. This gives me closure for brief periods of time but in the end I still am deep in my thoughts. At times they will begin to get better and I’ll sort of feel relief only to worsen again. Last night was the worst experience of all that I’ve had. I went to a buddy of mines house along with my other friend and his girlfriend. I was planning on only drinking but I ended up indulging in marijuana as well which was very potent considering it was straight oil. My friend who’s house it was has always been a close friend of mine and I’ve never thought of him in a sexual way and couldn’t have seen myself ever thinking of him in a sexual way. For a male he is far below the average male with his poor grooming, very under the average height of a male and also in poor shape. At times he can seem very fruity and since he was very intoxicated this was for sure one of these times. Me sitting on his bed very under the influence of marijuana was a little anxious from the marijuana in general but it was nothing out of the ordinary. I always start off a little anxious and get better from there. My friend jumped onto the bed and put both his arms around me and was holding the phone up like he was going to take a selfie with me even though he was actually secreting taking a picture of my other friend. The whole mannerism of it all seemed rather gay and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and my anxiety began to rise. While this was happening I questioned to myself I maybe I potentially liked it and maybe I was just in denial all along. My heart started racing faster than it ever has and I went into a complete panic attack. I was unable to think properly, remember my last train of thought, or realize what was reality and what wasn’t. All these gay thoughts about him began coming to my mind and they wouldn’t stop no matter how much I tried. Eventually my other two friends left so then it was just me and my other friend who had triggered these feelings. All these thoughts continued to persist with me asking myself whether or not I liked it, I felt sick to my stomach and began feeling nauseous. I felt uncomfortable being around him and had to leave unexpectedly. I had to just be by myself and sit in my car and try not to continue freaking out since it felt like i was going to have a heart attack. I sat in my car for like 15 minutes since I felt I was in no condition to drive and then continued to drive home still freaking out and paranoid about cops following me. I ended up laying in my bed freaking out about this whole thing and even felt tingling sensation throughout my whole body including my genitalia area along with my butt. I kept checking to see if I was forming an erection which I wasn’t, it was just tingling. I can’t get the idea out of my head that something about that moment had a significant feeling to me even though I’m almost positive that I don’t think it did. I spent all of today since 8 am up until 8 pm looking for reassurance, looking at coming out stories, gay people and their experiences, symptoms of denial, and constantly going back and forth between whether or not this may be in denial or HOCD. That experience is almost like a trauma to me and it’s hard to not think about it without my whole body beginning to go numb and my thoughts racing along with this massive headache I’ve had all day. I checked gay pornography several times throughout the day to see if it would have a reaction on me and it did absolutely nothing other than produce anxiety. All of this has been putting way more stress on myself than I can handle and making me socially isolate myself which I have been doing for months now and it sucks because I miss the connections I’ve had with my friends and family but they wouldn’t understand and even if they did it still feels very shameful because I could never even have ever pictured myself as a homosexual. I constantly reminisce about that one ex girlfriend I had an the amazing times we’ve had together with the hope that one day I can go back to being that person I once was. Someone who was a very popular kid in school who cared deeply about females and sexual behavior with only them. I want to start going to CBT therapy although it is very expensive, and I’m sure my insurance may cover it although it may not. The thing about the insurance part of it is that means i have to inform my grandparents about my mental health and the last thing they need right now is to worry about me and my problems. I’m willing to do anything it takes to feel the way I once did before I felt like I was going insane in my mind and sometimes even felt disassociated. I was hoping you might have some advice for me about that and your experiences with it along with if you think this may be a situation of denial or OCD. It seems too hard to distinguish the two at times and I hear so much stuff online talking about how HOCD isn’t real and secretly I am just not accepting myself for who I really am yet. I feel really lost when I hear that and I’m hoping this helps!
First I would stop by smoking weed. Or cut back. It’s not the thought because everyone gets good, bad thoughts. It’s how it makes you feel. Like you’re going crazy. Anxious racing thoughts etc. I suggest trying to get on an ssri. Maybe a primary care doctor could prescribe it. Since this is an irrational fear, because in your heart you know you are not gay, you cannot rationalize it. Because let’s face it, we can become scared of anything or have new thoughts about anything. You have to first take deep breathes. Do not change your daily routine. When the thought comes in your head do not reassure yourself. Just do something else. You have to show your brain it’s not important and it will fade eventually
This sounds like HOCD or SOOCD. An NOCD therapist or other experienced OCD therapist who does ERP will be able to help. We're not supposed to give advice here. You sound like a man who is sexually attracted to females and wants to continue to have relationships with females. The rest of it sounds like the intrusive thoughts that are part of OCD to me. But I am not an expert. I am female. I spend time ruminating about my sexual orientation. I am not frightened by the possibility that I am bisexual because it doesn't disgust me. I think OCD is involved in my ruminations because rumination is a compulsion. It certainly won't help me figure things out.
Hi I am curious as to helping my Son overcome OCD and intrusive thoughts but I don’t know where to begin , but after reading the comments I see that we should start with ERP because this is the most effective treatment, are there any other suggestions that you may have
Hello!! That is awesome!! ERP has helped my recovery time so much faster and has provided me the tools and knowledge to know how to deal with the onset of ocd. It took years for me to get diagnosed so I bless and praise you for helping your son!!!! Be patient and compassionate with your son, whatever he is struggling with may not make sense to you but feels very real to him!! Find an OCD specialist/therapist and be consistent. CBT can be effective in dealing with anxiety but can make ocd worse. All the best!!!!
@jc61 Thank you for that information now I know where to start and what to avoid. Many thanks
@ewoody Yes!! I agree with @cait ERP isn’t easy at times but definitely worth it in the long run and yes for him to learn tools at an early age is going to be so helpful!!!
Just signed up. I hope my insurance will cover treatment. I wanted to cry just knowing there may be help. 🆘 So stressful to have OCD. People don't know how much were suffer. No questions right now just hope. Keep up your solutions and progress not perfection. It's already working it's way in my life... Like I said I hope.
I really love this place
I'm from Philippines. I hope you can expand your scope.
Thank you so much for this post! I was in the process of talking myself out of this because I don't have the stereotypical symptoms but my feeling is that my drive to chase after my anxious thoughts online is totally obsessive compulsive. I agree, in my personal experience treatment for this is sorely lacking. I hope NOCD will help me get back on track.🙏 There's a lot of stigma and misunderstanding...stains that color how I get viewed based on the limited and stereotypical way that some have tried to explain it away as I'm just a hopeless, terrible screw up...rather than what's really been struggling with. I'm hopeful to find some good-hearted help. It's very admirable that you are using your personal experience to address the need in an innovative way! Thank you
Thank you for all you do!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Stephen Smith, therapist and everyone that works in NOCD you are helping so many people with OCD and that’s so great!
Stephen I’d love to hear more about how OCD affects your relationships—NOCD is one of the few places where I see relationship ocd recognized
My Daughter recommended this App.
Hi Stephen, I’m a therapist interested in being an ERP provider someday. Listening to all your content on YouTube as well as Dr McGrath’s and Ethan Smith. I love the work you all are doing!
I am begging you to make it cheaper. I can’t afford it at all. I need help ASAP. I want my life back
Can you make texting a therapist on NOCD available? I feel pretty awkward on a call.
This gives me so much hope!!!
Thank you for setting this up and expanding it to the UK and Australia. I'm in thd UK and have had 3 lots of CBT over the past which helped with rituals and hand washing but no so much with thd intrusive thoughts. I am starting ERP with one of you lovely therapists this week.
that's really encouraging to hear your story. I definitely feel like I'm not alone.
Hey, I’m scared and feel like this is my last option
You got this!!!!
An ROCD support group would be really helpful
Hi Stephen. Can you push to have Aetna accept Nocd? I have a good therapist, but I think the ones here may push me harder with ERP, but Aetna doesn't cover Nocd. It's awful how few good therapists take insurance.
Hi Stephen, I accidentally deleted my previous post. Is ERP therapy covered by Medicare in North Carolina? Also, do the NOCD therapists use mindfulness practices, and are they especially trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction? Please let me know. Thanks!
No problem! ERP therapy is typically not covered by insurance since most therapists who specialize in OCD go out of network. NOCD has changed that though and we now accept BCBS North Carolina, Cigna, and United Healthcare in North Carolina
How much will this cost? The biggest reason why I haven’t done ERP is because I can’t afford it, especially with all the medical bills I already have from trying to get help in the past.
Hi! The post above yours I answered that question :)
@Evelyn4416 They recently changed the prices ?promotional period is over so it’s now 123$ a session.. Just contacted them yesterday :(
It is $123.. if cost is really a problem you can apply with us for a payment plan and also we can help you submit out of network reimbursement
Go to mysisterskeeperohio.com they have a scholarship that helps pay for medication and therapy you should see if you qualify
Hi! Do you guys is offer treatment in New Jersey?
They do!
I hoping to begin ERP therapy, that I thought would be done via the Internet whether it be through Skype or Zoom, but I was told I will be contacted once this is available in my state??? Why? That’s makes no sens
Omg, this is what I’m worried about. It doesn’t make sense why it’s not in certain states when it’s all virtual....
@Ocdaim It’s law stuff. Someone in your state has to be certified to treat you. If someone is certified in CA, they can’t treat VA patients because they’re not allowed to
@Ultimatelyumi I just found this out too! Make sense now
@Ocdaim I need to start therapy but they dont have any therapist in CT
@Washington I found mine by simply going through therapists that my insurance covered and calling to find out who had experience… Did you try looking up the OCD foundation online?
@gojirabill No i haven't. And also the problem with me its that i have no insurance so im really looking for some therapist that i could afford
@Washington OK… I understand… Sorry
The law states that only a therapist licensed in your state can treat you.
I hope you can get it soon!
Me too!
You have to call your insurance company and find out…
Thank you gojirabill
Hi, I’m not really sure how this app works as I’m new here, I have a question, I’m from Finland and can’t get in touch with a therapist, my OCD has been getting worse lately, I can’t get in touch with my therapist here in Finland right now due to coronavirus . Hope this made sense.
Hi my name is Cameron. I have HOCD and my ocd is mild not moderate or severe. I have intrusive thoughts about turning gay. I am still able to do my schoolwork online and function and have a good time wirh my mom which I am thankful for. I don’t want this to become any worse. I have been doing exposure by myself and my anxiety to the thoughts have decreased a lot. I am now having thoughts about my thoughts never going away? silly right? I am having a phone call with a therapist tomorrow for 15 minutes. I just am curious to you Stephen on how helpful your program is? I am not doubting your program at all I just don’t want this to get worse ?. Please get back to me
Hi Cameron, most people in NOCD Therapy see significant progress. Our goal is to get you better in 9 weeks and then once you are better, our goal is to help you stay better to keep the clinical gains. HOCD is extremely common and something all of our therapists are extensively trained on. I personally suffered from sexual intrusive thoughts so I can relate to what you are going through.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith @NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith The model we use was independently studied by researchers at Columbia Medical Center, and it was very effective at treating OCD. You can learn more about it online on our website if you’d like.
Thank you so much Stephen, what you're doing is so incredible and your story is so important! I wish NOCD services will expand outside of the U.S. soon as I live in Israel and really want to be treated with ERP ?? again, thank you so much for what you do :)
We are trying as hard as we can to grow and reach as many people as possible
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you ? hoping that it'll happen soon, it is very hard to find an ERP therapist here ?
Thank you for sharing this. I thought I was alone with intrusive sexual related thoughts. Thank you for being brave enough to talk about it.
Omg I hate it so much I’m gay and it all started when I watch a movie which was gay and a female pop up and I had fear and doubt that I might be wrong and I had to keep checking myself constantly to find relief ocd is like a virus on our softwares we can’t function if it’s not reassure
I hope we can help you!
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I'm struggling too...I'm lesbian and out of nowhere i found a guy attractive and ever since I've been thinking that I'm straight or bisexual when I really don't want to be either and it just sucks...i just want my life back man...
Adam, you seem to be a very caring person. I commend you.
Naww joe your to sweet, I just can’t see our here someone go through ocd because I went through it for 10 years and it’s like ur life is on hold every time like imagine we’re computers with softwares that are our brains ocd is the virus that doesn’t let us function and live a normal life so I’m really want to just help with anything I can provide
I had my 15 minute consultation tonight. I was thoroughly diasappointed with the choices of therapists he sent me. 3 out of 4 did not specialize in OCD or list ERP as one of the therapies they have been trained in. I’m more depressed than ever. Thanks a lot. Now, I’m back to square one.
I know that feeling you try and keep trying and you go to people have no knowledge of it at all could u tell me what kind of ocd are u facing?
Hi jordy- I think there might be a misunderstanding. All of our therapists have gone through specialty training in ERP and OCD. I can promise you that since that’s actually a requirement to become a NOCD Therapist. Our clinical team who has a combined total of 40+ years experience in treating OCD trains them. In addition, every therapist is supervised by NOCD’s clinical leadership team. That’s why our outcomes are so strong- most people who go through our 9 week protocol get significantly better. If you have questions, I highly encourage you to reach out to me directly- Stephen@nocdhelp.com. I’ll put you in touch with our head of clinical services who is also a scientific advisor of the international OCD foundation.
Hi, I was in my last semester of university and suddenly had my first massive panic attack. It felt like a switch flipped and was consistently having them. The panic attacks have mostly stopped, but I keep having the fear that I won’t be the same. I started working with an ERP trained psychologist and she says I have OCD but right now I am so worried I have schizophrenia. I google it constantly and constantly check to make sure My friends and family think I seem normal. I’m really scared what if she’s wrong about me having OCD and I actually have schizophrenia. Is this a common fear? I’ve always been anxious but never thought I had ocd? Sorry if this is strange.
I have experienced this. This sounds like OCD to me. I recommended having a therapist help you through it. You’ll be okay!
@Breanna Thank you so much!! That gave me a lot of hope
Have you do therapy with the psychologist, and Not just a diagnostic session?
Thank you for sharing your story, let alone starting this company. I’m literally going through the same stuff and reading this not only gave me hope but felt empowering. I’m at the beginning of it and I’m looking forward to learning much more about myself as I venture to returning to the person I know myself to be.
So great to hear. Thanks for joining
Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with the same exact type of OCD as you. My psychiatrist wants to perform exposure-response therapy on me.. but he said it was tricky with this form of OCD. Can you inform me what type of ERP exposures you were subjected to to decrease your symptoms? Thank you.
All OCD subtypes are treated with ERP and many people with OCD get better each day because of ERP
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Hey Steven quick question. Can we use erp in things besides ocd?
Thanks
You are welcome!
@NOCD Advocate-Stephen Smith Hello Stephen, do you intend to expand the therapy plans to the UK at all? I am starting therapy for POCD in a couple of weeks time but would of liked the backup of being able to use this for therapy also?
We don’t have therapy in UK yet, but we are trying to get there!
Is it available in Canada, and is it available for adolescents?
Not available in CA yet, but it is for adolescents
Hi,I'm from Nigeria, it's really hard to get professional help here, before I found out about OCD I thought I was going crazy, everyone thought something was wrong with me, I even tried to kill my dog once because I thought he was going to kill my family, the one therapist my mum managed to find someone who claimed to be a therapist but she's more of a counselor, pls help
that sounds absolutely horrible. i’m not a doctor but it sounds like another disorder.
Have you tried contacting the IOCDF?
@birdie Another disorder?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith No I haven't
I have a question plz respond , ( i am a boy ) I have hocd fore 2 months. I first wanted to mastrubate on woman thoughts, but then gay thoughts came in so i was like imma do it to the thoughts fore accepting the thoughts (erp), and now i feel very very weird? Was this a good thing that i did or bad?
I think you could benefit from our Wednesday webinars with Dr. McGrath
Me too! Thank you for your story
Thank you for being here with us!
Stephen. Did you have to take an ssri to get better on top of the erp. I have never done well on ssri’s.
I actually didn’t take SSRIs just did ERP
?
How about in the Philippines? It states that you can only Face to Face talk when you are on States, please please please I badly need help.
We aren’t here yet. We’d like to be there though. I’ll talk to my team
Do you offer any help in Puerto Rico? I have a loved one who has OCD
Not yet, but we are working to be available there!

Love this app! It was a huge morivator for me to get through my ERP thank you!!
So happy we can help!
I’m so so very thankful for you and making this site. I’m in such a state of panic right now, I feel like living in constancy state of terror. I have health and death fears. My husband had a PSA levels of 4.4 and were are waiting for the ultrasound results. I can’t sleep and my having constant pa IV attacks
I really hope we can help. Are you seeing a therapist?
this is amazing thank you for this
Thank you!
Can you please make the therapist option available for other countries...i cant find an erp therpist in my area...they dont even know what harm ocd is...im desperate
We are working on it now
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for for 7 years. My 14 year old son was diagnosed with OCD at age 7 and is currently considered severe. We’ve been on an endless search for a therapist who really understands OCD, and have had many who say they treat OCD but really know little about ERP and instead use talk therapy. It’s been such a hard time for him, and many times he just gives up hope. To find NOCD recently has been incredible. The therapist took time to listen to my done and even INVENTORY his obsessions and compulsions. No other therapist did that. Thank you @stephen. Thank you NOCD.
So happy we can help!
Any timeline on when NOCD therapy may be available in New Mexico?
Give us 2 months
Sir I am staying out of US , can I have therapy session also?
We are currently in the process of working to serve those who are international seeking treatment
Thank you for sharing your story!!!
Thank you! Hope you can relate
Hey I have pure O
Is there anyway to lower the cost without insurance? I have insurance through my parents but they do not support therapy
We offer payment plans, in case that’s helpful
I’m at rehab to come off my prescripition. I’ve been experiences intense energy and enhanced brain processing. The place is amazing and the people Are INCREDIBLE they are so accepting of my OCD which I know a lot of us to hide. I have a very severe case and have been turned away from doctors because of the severity but they are taking this head on. Flying across the country was worth it!
It’s great you are seeing progress! Keep it up!
Good day Stephen! I am grateful that you were able to manage your fears by accepting the uncertainties. I have trouble doing that. My compulsions are exasperating. My therapist cost $200/hr. They are practically one of the few in the are. I'm in the NJ/PA area. Can you refer me to your therapist. Your treatment to be that effective gives me hope...I need that. Please help. I'm emotionally thankful that you have this platform. Thank-you.
Sorry to hear about your struggles. Do you see where you can book a free 15 minute call in the app to get started with a NOCD therapist?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Yes, I have an appointment set for 2pm tomorrow
Yes, I have an appointment set for Monday 17, 2020 @ 2pm
Does anyone on here worry about deals God will hold them to?
I do
@Tawana My therapist had me break all deals to God.
I think many do. But many people who do worry about that learn how to manage their worries via ERP. To do ERP, I’d recommend you see an OCD specialist.
Hi Stephen, I live in Ohio. Do you accept Cigna? Thanks! Kim
Kim- we now accept Cigna in Ohio. Good news!
Hi I'm just wondering if you guys will be available in Utah soon?
We are available in Utah!
Hello, smith, glad you've been cured, is the way in sos tool really effective ?
Not cured.. but managed.. ocd can be managed but not cured.. SOS is effective. Try it out if need be.
Good day Stephen! I feel alone discussing the disparity in treatment in the African American culture. I've been to various therapist and at times it appears they don't understand the trauma and the anxiety I experience. I have harm OCD, Hit & Run OCD, Contamination OCD and each they have their triggers. Example: a 5min trip home can take me 2hrs plus or minus to get home, I get caught up in rituals in a store....to the average eye I look like a threat and driving OCD it terrifies me. I secluded myself to my house most of the time. I'm afraid. Can some create a platform to discuss OCD and if there's a cultural difference.
Hi, try to go on (ERP) that's really helpful, come chat me, i'd like to discuss about it my friend
We can help! Have your tried seeing a NOCD Therapist? We accept lots of insurance plans now too..
New to this.
Welcome!
Hi Stephen, I hear wonderful things about your program. It’s been a life saver for two of my family members. I’m know someone who has OCD, Trichotillomania (all her hair is gone) and chronic anxiety. She would benefit tremendously but at this time your program doesn’t take Molina insurance. How can we get her treated? There are no specialists in her area and Her issues are crippling.
So happy we can help your family members and also really glad you joined us here in the community. There are additional ways we can make NOCD Therapy affordable, and if you book a free call with our care team, they can tell you how.
I am looking for online OCD therapist who focuses on contamination OCD. Any guidance on how to find? Thanks!
NOCD would be great for you, OCD is treated the same no matter the theme :)
Book a 15 min call with our Care Team (you can do it via the therapist button in the app) and we can try to help you.
Hi, is therapy available in Vermont?
Yes it is!
U betcha
Help for my 12 son with severe ocd
We’d be happy to help. What do you think he needs?
This is an amazing app, thank you for founding it :)
Thank you!
Is harm OCD common? Having an extremely rough time since my son was born.
It’s very common!
Very common!!! I had it severely as a young child (thinking about harming my parents) , and I know I’m prob going to have that theme again once I have a child of my own as well. I heard old cassette tapes my mom gave me a while ago that she had laying around from the 80s which was all about anxiety and people who had this harm anxiety as a parent (before the healthcare professionals on these tapes even knew it was ocd!) They all talked about how they overcame it, and you can too!! ☺️💘
@Ocdaim I think it’s awesome that you’re aware that it’ll pop up again once you have a child since you’re aware of the stress during that time can create and you can prepare to manage it for when it does!
@Ocdaim It’s got to the point where I’m afraid to be alone with him. Also I have harm OCD towards myself as well. Just afraid I’ll snap and do something. My psychiatrist put me on bipolar meds because apparently he’s not very informed about OCD. I’ve been on SSRIs and they’ve managed it ok but they always stop working after about a year and a half-2 years.
@Anonymous I’m currently taking Wellbutrin 150mg and started Lamictal today.
@Anonymous How are you feeling with Wellbutrin and lamictal so far?? I know my therapist told me that I *might* benefit from a mood stabilizer if I wanted to try it since the ocd meds I was on I didn’t like the sexual side effects. I was on clomipramine (a tricyclic) and it helped me wonders but got off after 3 years to try to do it on my own. I also highly recommend NOCD !! It put me into remission this year.
@Anonymous Seems like sadly most psychiatrists don’t know ocd well unless they are out of insurance and super expensive ocd specialized ones :(
It’s very common. Our therapists specialize in helping people with Harm OCD too.
amazing
Hey arminrm 👍
Thank you I am working hard. Hitting ocd head on. Not baking down !!!💪
Keep it going!
Great work
Welcome!
Thank you. Doing my best !!!👍
i’m in ireland can i still be included in getting a therapist thru zoom maybe
i’m also in ireland, do you think you will have NOCD services open to ireland soon? i’m grateful for your services as they are now btw!
Coming this year!
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith that’s amazing news omg! love your services :)
What insurance do you accept in California, Riverside County
I believe most. Our team can help verify if you book a 15 min call with us
Wow your story sounds a lot like mine...so happy to have found NOCD
It’s amazing how we feel so alone until someone tells their story..
Very proud of what you have accomplished. Thank you for creating this platform. You are helping many. :)
We are fortunate that people like you are here with us
Thank you. Same to you. 🙏✝️
I see in some comments you are helping with out of network care. I have health partners. Who do i talk to for that?
If you click the therapist button you can schedule a call with one of their representatives who will help you!
Yes select the button and our team could helo
Yep
Hi Stephan i have a question. I live in the UK and I know your therapy is not available there yet but... Do you have experience of treating people with bipolar(stable) and ocd. And does that mean that you choose specific psychologist to do that
We don’t treat the UK yet, but we will in a few months
Hey stephen i think the erp therapy should be available in other countries too not just the us bc there are many ppl suffering from ocd and cant find a therapist who specializes in ocd
I agree. There are legal and operational issues which make it hard to scale to other countries quickly, but we are working on it!
I’m going through intrusive thoughts and anxiety. I hate it and it’s been about 20 yrs. I’m 55 and want healing.
We’re here to help. Have you booked a call to learn more about working with a NOCD Therapist?
Hey! Your help is literally saving lives. I've had hocd in the past but i got treatment for it. I don't know if I have ROCD and my parents can't afford therapy again. I'm too scared to do a videocall with a therapist as my family can hear and they'll think I'm crazy. Is there a chance I can chat instead of videocalling? Thank you very much
@Bryan Thank you! Are you a therapist?
We unfortunately don’t chat. But, if you book the 15 min call, it’s just via phone. Then you can begin messaging your therapist on the app and maybe they’ll have guidance for you to help best make your first session comfortable.
Thank you Mr. Smith. We all appreciate your care.
Thank you so much! We appreciate your willingness to participate in our community
Is erp session is free or I have to pay for these sessions
My first session is $123 for 90 minutes, then it goes to $61. They have different payment plans. My insurance also doesn’t cover this, so your sessions could be less than mine.
They’re not free. They are clinical services so they cost money. However, some people’s insurance cover the entire cost (so it feels free to certain members).
Ok. It’s somewhat frustrating that so much OCD tends not to have association with religion. I too relate to this. I was raised Catholic and now I deal with guilt.
Similar experience for me too
Will therapy be available in Germany too?
Yes working on it this year!
Having a bad moment. I have Heath OCD, mainly about the ones I Love. My husband is having a MRI follow up and I’m panicking that they will find something bad. I’m trying so hard to breathe and think positive. Not Google and ask for reassurance, but my anxiety is out of control.
How can we help? If you hit the SOS button in the tools section we could assist. Also, have you done ERP with an OCD specialist before?
This is great to know and learn more about the individual that founded this platform. Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to read my post. Welcome to NOCD!
How's everyone doing today
Doing okay. How about you?
I’m in bed sick and just catching up on this post! But with lemons, you need to make lemonade I guess. Glad to have you in the community and I hope we can help you in whatever way your seeking.
I really do love my husband though. My mother’s comment wasn’t that bad. Ever since a child I have been very sensitive to my mother. I never wanted to disappoint her and her comments tend to hit deep. I am back with my parents right now. I didn’t really have a flare up with OCD until a workplace experience about 3 years ago. I tried handling it, but it wasn’t working. That’s when the OCD really kicked in (I was also introduced to breaking habits of OCD at this workplace). I needed extra help, so I came to my Mom’s. I know, not ideal! Anyhow, she made the comment that she “hoped” when I go home things are good instead of going back to the old patterns (of three years). Being sensitive, I understood an underline message of doubt after my husband and I have both been trying to use this time positive growth.
My account isn’t letting me share things
Is it working now?
@NOCD Advocate-Stephen Smith THANK YOU!! thank you for being someone who made it possible for us to have access to ocd specialized therapy via a telehealth platform. I'm almost 100% housebound at this point and I haven't been able to pursue therapy because the thought of leaving my "safe spot" and going to a new place, with people I don't know and all the germs they have has been crippling. The anxiety is overwhelming. I stumbled across the NOCD app by accident last night in the play store and decided to check it out. I'm glad I did... my assessment appointment is January 2. For the first time in the better part of 10yrs I FEEL HOPE. I feel excitement. I'm not what-iffing myself at the thought of meeting a new therapist because I get to have video sessions in the safe space of my home. So thank you for being the change that we in the OCD community so desperately needed. And thank you to your mom, too.
Thank you for your kind note. We are here to help you in any way that we can
Thank you, Stephen, for having the courage to share your story with us! Im deeply grateful as it took me 32 years to get diagnosed!
Wow I’m so appreciative of your words and I hope we can have a positive impact on your life! Thanks so much for joining our community
Hi my name is milan, I'm from srilanka, i have ocd since 2011, I got many treatments. But unfortunately my ocd never controlled, so any can one support and help me. Please 🙏
Have you talked to Chrissie Hodges?
When should I check myself into a psychiatric hospital? I feel overwhelmed and faint. Feel like I am going insane sometimes.
No thankfully
Have you gotten ERP treatment yet from an OCD specialist?
Hello Stephen, I struggle with intrusive thoughts too
It’s the worst! But, when you go through treatment, you quickly realize you can overcome anything. Also, meeting others with OCD can give you the best friends you will ever meet
This gives me hope!
Have hope! So many reasons to have it
Thanks for this message. Your story sounds similar to what my son is experiencing. He’s 12 and I’m so grateful for this platoform so maybe he can do the work and learn the skills needed to overcome at a young age.. thank you for giving back.
Skippy please know your son isn’t alone and we are here to help him to the best of our ability
Thank you so Much! I have the same mental compulsions as you and some issues with finding and affording treatment. This will be my 2nd go round as I had severe OCD about 10 years ago...but it's back. I have hope. Starting ERP in 2 days! Thanks again for making this available.
We are here to help in any way that we can! Please let our team know if you need anything.
status in DC? I was excited to start but then was told no therapists are yet licensed...
We should have someone. Please email larry@nocdhelp.com and he will help you
Just heard about this app on the AT parenting YouTube channel. Very excited to learn more! I scheduled a 15 minute call for my daughter, but she starts PHP for ARFID on Monday and will not be present for the call. Can I still speak to the counselor without her present? I would like to learn more about how I can help her when she is at home, and when she hopefully moves to less intensive treatment. I’m learning so much about the overlap of anxiety and OCD with eating disorders. This especially seems to apply to ARFID where there are no body image concerns. Thank you for creating this app and service!
Thank you! Our care team would be happy to help you. You can message the NOCD Therapist without her present, and if need be we can find a way to help you two chat.
Thank you for this , I’ve been feeling so hopeless and trying to stay positive that I’m finally going to work with an ocd therapist. Three and a half years of my life was stolen from me along with my dream job , I hope to achieve peace and to be able to live out my life again .
I’m happy you found us.. OCD does steal time away from your life, but managing it brings you to levels you didn’t know were possible... thinking about it like running a race for three years and getting to the finish line... you mentally are a much stronger person at the end of the race then before- from what you could overcome.. please stay hopeful!
Amazing story....😊
Thank you so much!
If you have ocd, do people ever act on their intrusive thoughts?
Yes, I do almost every day.
The intrusive thoughts are egodystonic, meaning they contract core values and character. I know some people with really bad OCD might try to check and see what happens when they start engaging in their thoughts, if they aren’t illegal, to disprove the fear compulsively. Personally (not a clinician just someone with OCD) I can see why some thoughts never get acted in while others get compulsively checked.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Might I ask you Stephen, when or better yet HOW does one determine the compulsion is only egodystonic vs homicidal thoughts / action ? Surely , even those patients with OCD can act in a criminal manner . I was very alarmed ( not triggered by my OCD ) upon reading a comment from a person who said she was very worried and anxious because she was having thoughts of killing her child and then added she was wondering if killing the child would offer herself relief ( from her OCD , I'm assuming ) . To me , it's a crap shoot but with a vunerable child in the mix I definitely felt alarmed ... because I am NOT a doctor , don't know if this is " just OCD " or something like psychosis . Felt like this wasn't good for my anxiety and I have been more cautious to read posts since .
@cricketbooboo Why did you write this here for someone else too read if it triggered you without writing trigger on your post just wondering
@cricketbooboo It’s a great question. I believe that’s why taking someone through a comprehensive assessment with a trained clinician is so important.
Hi I am Trin I am currently discovering that I’ve had OCD comorbid with ADHD and an eating disorder. My OCD is currently affecting my relationship, I have intrusive thoughts and compulsions around time eating and exercise
All very common in the OCD community. Are you seeing a licensed therapist who specializes in OCD and ERP?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith No I am unemployed and living in a country without benefits
Does NOCD accept Cigna in Florida?
Hi, I stay outside US, can I still do the ERP with video conference?
We aren’t outside the US yet, but we will be by the end of this year
Why is uncertainty necessary
Because reassurance is what keeps your intrusive thoughts alive. It’s scary to think you can sit with your thoughts and be ok.
Great point!
Thank you! You are very inspiring I have OCD too and I have thoughts about sleep and how much I need and how long would it take to fall asleep
I signed up on this app not for myself, but for my 11 year old daughter. I’m assuming I’m not alone in doing this?
Wow sounds like a great idea!
Hi! I’m an ocd therapist in fargo nd. Looking for referral options for pts. Are you taking new clients in this region?
Thanks for your help!
ERP has helped me a lot. I learned it from a behavioral therapist in 1994. I was lucky to have found him. He didn’t specialize in OCD, but he understood ERP. I still use it to keep obsessions and compulsions at bay. It has worked wonders!
Then why are you on here seeking help?
@Mark I am here for a checkup, so to speak. I don’t know anyone who is fully cured of OCD. I still experience a great deal of general anxiety. So I am wondering if I may need treatment specifically for the general anxiety. Or if more OCD treatment will be recommended.
I just recently stumbled upon this happen. I look forward to seeing how I can add this to my treatment
Has anyone tried welbutrin as a combo med for ocd?
My husband was on it. Didn't see any improvements. I took it and it made me fall into a severe depression
@ragincajun Yes it was giving me worse anxiety. I had to get off of it. Thanks for your input!
I am from Brazil and cannot afford treatment. I cannot develop any kind of social connections.I am afraid of going out since I got divorced 10 years ago. I am afraid of people's judment and I have intruder thoughts i cannot get rid of. I did not used to be like that. My ex spreaded many lies about me. I became suspicious of everybody
Sorry for your troubles. I can somewhat understand. I'm about to separate from my husband and I'm highly afraid of judgment and if I find out I'm being judged It's just going to throw me into great depression. I'm looking to move near my nephew so he can help me through this.
Absolutely!!!! Proud of you and they are so happy to help!!!! I’m so grateful to everyone at @NOCD
Hello, I am actually a mental health therapist but I have had no formal training with OCD. I downloaded this app to try and better serve my clients. After looking through here, I am most definitely going to suggest this app to one particular client I’m working with now. I think this would benefit him in so many ways! Thank you!
Thank you!! For your willingness to help others!!!!
Im too embarrassed to even repeat my thoughts.
That’s ok. Perhaps you can start by writing them out on a paper then burning the paper. Then by texting it to an online help service. Then you can say it on the phone to a person on a helpline (anonymous). Whenever you are able to say it/type it (even if no one else hears it or reads it), you will feel slightly better. I wish you so well
Anyone out there have pure-o? I’m completely obsessed with my breathing but I don’t have any compulsions. I just think about it and it makes it super hard to concentrate on anything else.
Hey! Yes!!! Your compulsions are mental compulsions. The act of thinking, focusing and ruminating about your breathing is your compulsion. You and I don’t have outward compulsions but your compulsions and mine are mental. So your exposure could maybe my breathing is ok maybe it’s not but I’m not going to try to figure it out.
I wish ohio medicaid covered it.
I am from Australia, am I able to get any help from NOCD? I’m desperate
I would definitely recommend looking up Ali Greymond on YouTube!
You are now. Reach out to nocd.com
It’s not live in Australia
There are many great therapists with NOCD! And they accept a lot of different insurances. I’m in the process of doing ERP. It’s very hard but will be worth it in the long run. Getting help at an early age is the best thing u can do!
Thanks again I will start here and seek out the therapist that is best suited for this type of OCD
@ewoody Also check out Nathan Peterson on You Tube ocd and anxiety. He has a lot of great videos that are so helpful!! He is super compassionate and real. Ali Greymond is another one that is really helpful too and anything NOCD related is awesome!!
@jc61 Ok thanks again I will check these out
Can someone help me determine if I have ocd or not? I am always focused on body sensations and then trying to figure out how to fix them.
I think your symptoms sound like OCD. You could schedule an intake with NOCD and the intake person for your new therapist, I'm not sure will tell you if you have it. The most important thing is getting the appropriate help from someone trained in ERP.
It’s also call somatic ocd
I have almost the identical ocd that you do. It was nice to read your story and know there is hope:) thank you. I have six kids and can’t afford the therapy even at this low price and there are no providers in my area right now who take my health insurance. I was desperately hoping to get this therapy. I’m on a wait list just in case a therapist comes on who take my insurance in Washington state. I hope this app helps too. Just getting started. The lord has helped me but I flare up with anxiety. It was almost gone. I need this therapy to teach me to keep it gone. I didn’t know this existed until I googled self help tips and I saw this therapy. I’m excited to learn.
The Lord is so good to us and He knows our struggle. Just remember that it may come and go but as you learn to do ERP it won’t be as disturbing to you. What kind of ocd do you have if I may ask. I’m a little more Pure O so I struggle with mental checking compulsions than outward compulsions. In working with my therapist she has reminded me that the goal is not to not have the thoughts but to realize that they don’t have any value and to be ok with the uncertainty. Which can be really hard sometimes. So my response prevention is very often “maybe maybe not, I don’t know? Possibly I’m not sure? It has been tough to sit with the uncertainty but the more you do or the more you acknowledge that it’s there but don’t respond negatively or argue with it, the less power it will have. Checkout Nathan Peterson OCD and Anxiety and Ali Greymond on YouTube. Also Brainlock book by Jeffrey Schwartz. Realizing that these are OCD thoughts and not you/me has helped to get to a spot where we can begin to deal with it. Taking Luvox has helped me to be able to take it down a notch and process my thoughts better. You’ve got this but most importantly He has got you!!! Happy Easter!!!! <><
Steve Lloyd really stressed out
Hi Stephen. Please please I'm asking again not to change my account for nothing. This is the fourth week that I'm charge the 50 dollars agreed every week.. my son it's not receiving any terapy.so please this is the 3ter.time that I ask to stop with charges since the terapist refuse to work in my son case .wich we dont.need anymore..so please dont.charge me. For.nothing and we need to be refunded this money..
I think ERP therapy should be available to country's like India. I am Indian and silently suffering due to lack of OCD specialist.
No ocd specialist in pakistan either
Hi. I have been having intrusive thoughts about illegal microchipping and brain chipping. This makes me stressed, as I get anxious about whether I have been a victim or not. Can you please guide me.
Im from Pakistan and there is not a single OCD-specialist in my city or even miles from here, please im in dire need for help but NOCD doesnt have services in Pakistan.
Yeah I do
Has anything helped?
I have religious and sexual ocd. But not religious as in doing something to offend God, but as in those intrusive thoughts, “you might discover contradictions in your faith” or “maybe the atheists are right” even though every morsel of Bible related knowledge I possess says otherwise. I am so glad I have found this app. God is working!
Wow I do too!! Those exact thoughts. & it’s like a constant battle in my mind 24/7 having to use that truth I know from the Bible to contradict those thoughts. This app is amazing because it’s nice to know I’m not alone.
Hi Stephen I want to start ERP therapy but I am currently living in Lima (Peru) since the sessions are virtual I don’t get it why it only applies to people living in UK, Australian or USA. Could you please open it up to people like me who need help but live abroad?
i am facing some religious problem with my thinking
Would love to see this available in every state with the same options for other mental health issues in addition to OCD
Hi Stephen, I’ve been looking around for someone who is/was an athlete dealing with OCD and recently learned that you were a college quarterback. I would love to hear more about that aspect of your story in any way, shape, or form and thought I’d reach out. Thanks!
What about Alaska
It’s available in Alaska as well 🙂
Can you apply the same program to a desktop. Not loving having to only use my phone
Was told I do not have ocd. This I dispute. As I believe I have pure o
By a therapist on this organisation
@bobbycat Is there a way you can get diagnosed at a nearby clinic where you're located?
This is so great. Looking forward to keeping up.
I too ended up having to discontinue college. I just got extremely fixated on things that had little or no value. I live alone therefore I had no available resource to confide in.
Thats okay thanks a lot
My Daughter was diagnosed with OCD, My Adult Son who is a Veteran and has TBI/PTSD shows the same Anxiety and behaviors. My Daughter thinks that I may have OCD as well. Is OCD hereditary? I am desperately looking for help for my son who is in the VA System and not being helped.
Hi! I recommend calling NOCD for their informational call to get more info on the therapy and options that can be available for you
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn Hi can you tell me what erp you did for existential thoughts
@Michelemybelle Hi! For the existential thoughts, the ERP I personally did including writing and reading a script based on whatever specific fears I had under existentialism, such as what if i’m not real, what if everything is meaningless, etc. I would also write these what if statements and questions on a piece of paper and look/read it. Another exercise I did was watch videos on youtube that triggered these existential fears
Yes my son and I and think my father had ocd
Hello, I have to ask if I’m even allowed to be in this app? I am not the person with OCD, I am his mom. Like your mom Stephen, I desperately want to see him get better. I’m hoping eventually he might take over this app and be a part of this. May I stay to help Leland?
Hey! That’s totally okay! Welcome!
How is it best to help? He sees a therapist and a psychiatrist and is trying a new med. do you think this will help.
Thank you also for welcoming me! I just want to get him started on his life!
@leland1998 Is he doing ERP (exposure and response prevention) with his therapist? This type of therapy is the golden standard for OCD treatment, so if he’s not doing so, it would be best to find someone who can!
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn Not that I am aware of. He is 22 so I do not participate in his therapy sessions. I will discuss that with him. Thank you.
@leland1998 I hope everything goes well for him! i cannot recommend ERP enough it really is vital!
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn I spoke to him about ERP. In spite of a therapist and a psychiatrist, he did not know about it. He says I should let him figure it out. I guess he wants me to stop making suggestions.
I live in Canada. Do you offer therapy here ? Ugh, I hope so 😊❤️
Hello, I’m working with an ocd therapist now but find that I don’t trust her as much because she is not a Christian. I have PureO and I have been working on ERP for 5months now, while I’m able to see that my fears are part of my ocd, I have a hard time not associating myself with the context of my thoughts. Even though I have habituated to some of the exposures, still I find myself worried about them happening in the future. I have put off treatment for 12 years due to misdiagnoses, lack of resources and well fear that my thoughts will come true. Are you currently working with kaiser as an out of network provider?
What an inspirational story. I have experienced really bad treatment options of late and seen numerous psychiatrists and medications with no avail or almost worsening of symptoms. All i want is to get better and I have started the treatment program at NOCD. I hope it will give me the same results and severe reduction in symptoms as it has given you and I have the strength to face my fears as per the therapeutic requirements!!
Hope you Bring these sessions to other countries as well. would be Really appreciated
I want to stop counting everything over and over
Does Medicaid in Texas cover this therapy?
How do we know if our health insurance covers services from NOCD?
Your story is really validating to me. I deal with mostly mental compulsions that are very similar to what your described. Thanks for what you do!
Is there any chance that NOCD will be accepting insurance any time soon (particularly Medicare and Tricare)? I am on a fixed budget and cannot afford the sessions. Thanks
I already have had 6 sessions, but somehow I don't see much improvement and the sessions don't seem to be helpful.
Have you been doing exposures between sessions? I find that when I don’t exposures between sessions I tend to struggle and ruminate!
Also remember it takes time, it’s a process and there will be some ups and downs, stick with it! I’m glad I did!!!!
Have you discussed this with your therapist? Perhaps they can help make the sessions more helpful if they know how you feel. You definitely want to get the most out of therapy. You can always reach out to care@nocdhelp.com with your concerns!
I completed NOCD and had the same experience..
@Christina Let me add that my therapist was a doll but erp wasn’t effective for me. My psychiatrist said to me that erp isn’t effective for everyone with ocd and that a good cbt therapist could be just as effective. I now have a cbt therapist who I really enjoy working with. She uses the 4 R approach to overcoming ocd which has personally worked for me. Mind you I have mental compulsions which are rummination assurance seeking not physical compulsions which maybe why erp wasn’t effective for me.
@Christina - Thanks Christina for sharing this. Is it possible for you to share your CBT therapist name? Thanks.
Thanks so much for all you do here, I'm very thankful I was able to find y'all!
is your treatment covered by Cigna insurance in Nashville Tennessee? thanks!
It’s covered by Cigna in North Carolina, Michigan, and California. Call in the NOCD team and maybe we can work something out for TN (either single case agreement or we can help you submit super bill and get reimbursement)
Hi! Do you guys accept blue cross blue shield in Florida?
Not yet in Florida, but we can do a single case agreement or help you submit for out of network reimbursement
I took therapy 3 years ago because of my depression i metion to her about puro ocd and she said she never heard of that anand the only thing she would do its prescribe me different pills for depression and anxiety.. that did not help at all and that was when i had state insurance now i have no insurance and can't afford to pay a lot of money for therapy. I really wish i could find a good therapist to helm me deal with this in a price that i could afford
That’s not an OCD specialist therapist who does ERP. It sounds like you saw a generalist therapist.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I researched a lot about ERP and i find it really scary because.. im terrified of staying with my kids alone. So how would ERP help me? i think it would drive me to the edge if i do ERP
@Washington ERP with a therapist would help you most likely. Think of it mainly as learning how to respond to your fears when they pop up into your head. A therapist will teach you how to do that by slowly triggering your fear. It’s kind of like running a marathon. To start, you may run 2 miles. Then the next day you might run 3. Then eventually you might be able to run 26 (after working up). A specialty trained therapist will guide you through that process
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you very much for taking the time to explain it to me.. unfortunately i checked if they are any therapist in avaliable in my state Connecticut and there is none at this time
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I’ve been using a app called better help and the therpist on there who dates he helped people with ocd. I think I have hocd and he said I should expose myself by watching gay porn and masterbate to it but I dot. Want to do it. What should I do
@10lewis10 I've struggled with HOCD thoughts before, and I want you to know you don't HAVE to do anything. I believe there are other ways to acknowledge the thought and overcome the fear without compromising what you feel is right. For example, you wouldn't tell someone with POCD to watch child porn for ERP, because that's both illegal and unethical. We can let the thoughts pass through our minds without defining ourselves by them rather than acting on those thoughts
@johnathanford The difficult part it is not to self judge you
You are an amazing person
You are kind for saying that. Thank you. We have many amazing people on the NOCD team
Is it only $50 each session? I’m in desperate need of ocd help. And I can’t afford the specialists around my area :(
When I talked to NOCD services they told me the first 4 90 min sessions were $50 and the last 4 20 min sessions were $25
@Evelyn4416 Okay so is it only 8 sessions? Or can it be ongoing ?
@Ocdaim Yes! I’m experiencing that right now actually, I recently finished my 8 sessions but me and my therapist and working to get more if I need them
@Evelyn4416 Thanks so much for the info!! Did it help you a lot ? ?
@Ocdaim Yes definitely! I’ve had an excellent experience with it and I highly recommend it :)
@Ocdaim Yes! When they set you up for your first appointment I think they either suggest an initial date and time and you can say if that works or not and if not you pick another day etc it can be worked out, and once you’re working with your therapist you schedule your next sessions at the end of that session and you work out another time that works for you both
The $50 per session was our intro discount. Our goal at NOCD is to make effective treatment with a therapist affordable, since many of us struggled to find effective care that was affordable. That’s why we are starting to take insurance. If you are not covered by insurance, the cash pay price is $123 per session, and we offer help in getting you out of network reimbursement with your insurance.
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn I was told today that if I didn't have insurance, it would cost $123 for 90 min and 60 min and half of that for the 30 min sessions
@DA Yes that is the regular price for the sessions. When I originally signed up I assume it was during a promotional so I received the pricing for that time. But the $123 for 90 min and so on are the correct prices for now
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn 6am >ssf sew xgf t5 see
have you ever gotten depressed from your ocd? In other words, has your subtypes gotten so bad to the point where you got depressed?
Yes all the time :(
Yes thats what makes mine even more treatment resistant, even after 36 treatments of transcranial magnetic stimulation for major depression and having Seratonin syndrome not being able to take SSRI'S makes it very hard.
Def. when it’s untreated I got depressed
Yes I'm afraid so 😢
Is CompPsych Insurance accepted? (PA)
Not yet!
Is your treatment covered by mediCAL? I’m in California.
Yes it will be next month
Hello Stephen, How much are the online sessions please
Yes that’s correct
So my question is do you accept Medica re
In some places, yes!
Who is your health plan
Yes I have emailed them and they have responded but not really sure to go from there, they just say that she will get stressed and panicky etc but these triggers are so part of life, I just don’t know how she doesn’t see that everyone does these things, it’s fine for Gracie to cough, sneeze touch her nose etc if we do it she shouts and screams you know I don’t like it why would you do it etc etc people must think we are torturing her not just coughing sneezing or itching side of our nose.
Have you tried reaching out to Stuart Ralph for resources in the UK? He runs the OCD Stories podcast.
Do you accept Horizon Blue cross Blue Shield insurance???
We will accept Horizon soon! Most likely sometime this year. If you’d like, we’d be happy to help you with out of network reimbursement with them though
This is such a blessing.
I hope we can have an opportunity to help you! People are getting so much better with NOCD therapy.
I want to start my session but I’m wondering how much it costs as I can’t find that info anywhere. Any ideas on how much this costs?
normally it’s $50 per 90/60 min but with medicaid during covid 19, it’s $25 for 90/60 mins and $12.5 per 30
@Ocdaim Be patient. Our goal is so that most health insurance plans sponsor our care for what it’s worth, and our team is working hard to make that happen.
@Ultimatelyumi I’m waiting on Medicaid and they are making me wait 4 months now and still not approved so idk if I should wait more months before being treated here? I already took an assessment and I’m severe
@Ocdaim You did a 90 minute diagnostic assessment or a 15 minute intake call? Who is your Medicaid plan? We could try and do a single case agreement with your payer to get you the help you need. Can you please send me an email with your health insurance information (stephen@nocdhelp.com)
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you! Just send an email.
@Ultimatelyumi Hi! Would I be able to message you privately somehow?
@Ocdaim Unfortunately that’s not an option on the app ): But this is what the lady on my 15 min call told me.
Just out of curiously Stephen, what kind of ERP exercises did you do for mentally reviewing passed or current events?
I would need to understand the obsession, not the compulsion
Update on virginia’s adolescent therapy waitlist? (:
Let me check with my team
Hi I know you don’t treat in the UK but can you offer advice please. What would you do if the obsession were as I have mentioned before, nose breathing, bogies, snot, touching nose - my daughter even thinks she has seen you touch your nose when you just lift your hand near your face or turn your head . It is very wearing as it it is constant - it’s fine for her to touch her nose, sneeze, cough and so forth but she would go mental if we were to, and I’m trying not to reassure but if I haven’t touched my Nose and she says I have what should I do just say yes as it like the ocd wants to turn everything into an arguement - There are 4 people in the house so these things are Unavoidable - counsellor say even if haven’t just say yes and she will have to deal with anxiety and it will Come back down but she just goes mad and says I’m nasty and shouting at her - I don’t i Try and talk to her and ask her to do breathing deep muscle relaxation. She doesn’t care that this is making my diabetes worse and I’m not sleeping- neither is she as she can’t and shouts To me all night. Any advise would be great as am Completely worn down. Many thanks
If you reach out to a guy named Ethan Smith from the IOCDF, he could help. You might be able to find him on Facebook. Mention that you talked with Stephen Smith from NOCD.
Have you also heard about EDMR and exposure therapy combined ? As we are going to try this with her NHS therapist that she has just started with.
I’ve hear about EMDR being used in tandem with OCD when the person also has trauma
Me too
Be strong cause SO-OCD is not u it’s ur brain that make u have these obsession ur not wrong ur completely right, the way it makes u believe ur wrong is by giving u grinoal response which happens from intrusive thoughts, images, dreams, impulses or utters also verbal hearing someone can create it and even looking at Someone it happens more often that before because u keep checking ur self and it weakens ur organs that make u believe it real when really it’s fake
Thank you for this, I remember feeling so helpless and taking on the war of my mind on my own. Doing erp and getting help purely from this support group. Once I understood my compulsions and what they truly were, I started healing very quickly and am doing very well now. *well, compared to before. But I’m grateful for this for the people who felt what I felt.
Aww no worries I’m happy to help with any thing u are unsure of or anything that comes in your mind it never alone in this if u need anything please contact me on this or if u have snap chat mine is aelkotob5 add me if u want and if u had anything questions about ur obsession I know exactly how to help u with Thanks ? take care
Your welcome! Hope we can help you here
Hi! Do you guys accept Aetna?
What’s that?
@AdamRoyale U mean insurance?
@AdamRoyale Hi Adam! Yes the insurance company
Not yet!
Hi Stephen I noticed we share some same subtypes. I am currently week 2 of therapy on the app with a therapist. I’ve noticed doing erp on my own wasn’t the same as having that mental compulsion. When the instructor thoughts come naturally they are intense but when I try to do erp it doesn’t feel as intense. Is this still okay? Or am I doing it wrong?
Intrusive* not instructor sorry
Who is your therapist? They should be able to do exposures with you that trigger anxiety and make it feel real. Separately, sometimes the best think you can learn is how to do “response prevention” for unexpected episodes
Thank you so much for doing this.
Thank you for your thoughtful words!
I’m looking for a therapist for my 7 years old daughter. I live in Chile (South America) and I have not been able to find the right therapist to provide the right treatment for her. I believe that since we live abroad, insurance is not an option so I would like to know the cost to see if I can afford it. My daughter does not speak English so I’m looking for guidance to conduct the therapy myself
Hey hun I can’t even imagine the frustration you and your daughter are going through I mean she’s 7 she’s very young if u want I can teach u about ERP it’s a therapy That will help her understand the problem and find relief so she is able to live a comfortable and healthy life please let me know if ur interested I can also see if there any services in your area that might be able to help and if not I’m here if she needs any help with it
@AdamRoyale Thanks so much for your kind help. I will really appreciate if you can teach me ERP. I have read a book that the psiquiatrist recommended me, it’s called “Freeing your Child from OCD” so far that has been more helpful that the therapist itself. But I believe that book was written years ago so I imagine there are new studies or therapies that are not in that book and even if I try to do my best as a mom, I’m not a professional in the filled. I’m a translator and I also lived in in NY for 2 years, so I have access to more information that is not available in Spanish, but my daughter goes to a German School so she is more into German than English.
@Tamaraweitzel Ok yep easy I actually know German haha but yeah I think in your area support for ocd is very low because it’s a illness which is really to be seen
Would you be willing to look into self help books?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Your app is amazing
Are you completely cured Mr. Smith? I am starting to see a nocd therapist tomorrow, but I am very scared.
That sounds like reassurance man
OCD is managed not cured. I still need to do response Prevention when I have OCD thoughts BUT I have regained my life to the point where my OCD no longer bothers me
Wow thanks for sharing!
No worries
What is the cost of nocd therapy?
Hi, looking into ERP therapy for my daughter who has OCD. Was wondering if you accept Premera insurance? We are in Washington state
Yes they accept Premera in Washington..
Yes. We accept Premera!
Hi Stephen, I looked at ERP examples for ROCD and I have few questions. If I write 10reasons why Im in the bad relationship, I think Im gonna start to think that way.... Also, I have thoughts that I should be alone and will be happy then. I know that if I imagine me being alone and happy I will get excited and think of a break-up ( because I would imagine a perfect example and actually I don't know how would I feel without my partner). Therefore I think these ERP may have the opposite effect. Any thoughts on that?
Be careful trying to do ERP on own. If you don’t have a therapist, try using a self help workbook.
Checking in to see if therapist is available for a minor in Oklahoma yet? Thank you ??
Not yet! I hope soon
I am not from the States but I go to school in DC and have United Healthcare. I am also currently overseas. Is there any chance I could receive therapy?
When you are in the states you’d be elligible to do NOCD Therapy! Unfortunately, we are not yet compliant yet to serve internationally.
I’ve had a few appointments and I was wondering if I could submit claims to my insurance for it during this time? I have BCBS in Maryland. Thanks
You could do out of network claims! NOCD can help if you email us. Care@nocdhelp.com
I’m in Virginia and I have an HMO medicare advantage plan with United Healthcare. A plan representative told me that I can only get coverage for a clinician who accepts medicare and is licensed in Virginia. Do you have anyone who matches that description?
If you live in Virginia, you can see a licensed therapist in Virginia. If they accept Medicare, you can use your insurance to pay. If not, sometimes you can pay using cash.
Thank you
I have some questions about intrusive thoughts and mental compulsions. I know my compulsions are mostly mental and I can't know when I am doing mental compulsions. It is mostly questioning myself and my value, retionalizing and I also get on Google. How did you managed to be conscious about your mental compulsions? I don't know it unless it is behavioral. Even when my compulsions are relational, I don't know when I am doing it. Do you maybe have some hints on how to identify them when they are acting?
Best way is to first identify the mental compulsions. When I became really good at identifying the mental compulsions, I would then be able to correct the action by doing response Prevention in the moment. The SOS feature within NOCD could help here.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Now to your second question- to know about whether or not they are relational and which thoughts are mental compulsions, it may help to see an OCD specialist therapist who can help you understand your obsessions and compulsions more easily
Hi! Is there any updates on Virginia’s adolescent waitlist?
I head it’s updated
There is no waitlist right now in VA
@GJ7 Not yet I believe
Want to talk to a specialist but I’m from the uk
@Jaedenw2 We aren’t there yet, but we will try and become available in the UK
Hello. Does anyone know where and if any of these ocd specialists are affordable? I just got laid off due to covid and I am collecting unemployment but I can’t spend too much. I do have a budget which is reasonable. Please, anything helps, I need help. My ocd has been horrible lately
We can offer you a payment plan. We also accept insurance, and in some states like CA, we accept most Medicaid plans as well as commercial plans (I.e PPO and HMO plans)
Can you pick a location in the states but be in another country?
Im unsure mate, I can only see a few US states listed as therapy locations available
@Joshy1989 Well I have pick one randomly cause I’m from the uk but if they tell me I can’t this app is useless
@Jaedenw2 Yeah mate, its less understood for sure, but even then you can find a therapist who understands, you just have to search about mate, im in wolverhampton theres a few therapists ive spoken to, Its good to get a feel for wether they understand when you have the initial telephone call. Be honest about your symptoms no matter how hard it may be!
@10lewis10 No Lewis not totally useless, theres a lot you can learn off here, just dont let it become a reassurance thing for you! Gain knowledge off the articles and stuff on here mate, who knows they may expand to cover the uk eventually
@Jaedenw2 Yes mate your not alone at all, theres probably a lot more people with this who dont speak up or seek help! So your doing the brave first step in to recovery, same way I am! No need to thank me buddy. Stay safe and stay positive!
Michigan Priority Health?
Yes
Yes! We accept Michigan and priority health
How do I change my avatar? I’m a girl.
Hit your avatar in the top right and then hit it again to change it
@GJ7 Thank you
Hi, do you accept BCBS? We live in Virginia
We accept BCBS, and by the end of this year we will accept many plans in VA
also suffering from intrusive thought OCD
How do they charge for these therapy sessions?
They charge per session. Also we do payment plans
Can we access your online therapists if in Australia?
Not yet! We are just in the states
Oh no, I'm in Australia. You don't do overseas yet? I was sooo excited to find nocd. There are no therapist anywhere near me here in the bush where I live. Do you think overseas therapy will be an option soon?
Hi Twiggy I am in Australia to and they referred me to a therapist here who could teleconference . I have an appointment next week . Would you like the details ?
@penny123456 Hello Penny! Yes please, thankyou ever so much, I would really really appreciate that!
His name is Brett deacon at the Illawarra anxiety clinic . Just google it . I have my first appointment on Tuesday . Will keep you posted how it goes . He does ERP and is a colleague of Stephen .
@penny123456 Thankyou Penny! I just saw your reply message, about Brett at the Illawarra clinic. I will google it! Yes please, I would love to hear how you go with him! Thankyou very much for getting back to me.
We are waiting to get international soon
I really need to start the ERP therapy. My ocd has went into full drive on top of a lot of stress and trauma Tardive Dyskinesia has brought to the forefront of my brain while cv19 is restricting a lot. How do I start? Thank you!
Do the free informational call! They will ask someone questions and set you up for an appointment with one of their therapist :)
@Evelyn4416 What is the phone number or any contact detail?
@sumo https://home.treatmyocd.com/calendar?src=homepage click the link and follow the instructions, it should get you set up for the call
@Evelyn4416 Thank you ?
@Evelyn4416 But I am from India how can I get help for it?
@sumo They are only working in the US for now but they are currently working on expanding internationally!
@Evelyn4416 Thank you so much for the information ❤️
We are working on being available in India
Thank youuuu?
Thank you! We are happy to have you here
How can I diagnose myself if I have OCD....well I m confirm that I have trichotillomania
NOCD’s first session is a diagnostic assessment
@smsmith_14 How can I get assisted? Sorry I didn't know the procedure
Hit the therapist button in the app and you can schedule a call to start therapy with us
I have Kaiser, will me sessions be able to be covered?
Do you have kaiser NorCal or SoCal?
How do I see your comment on my question. You sent a notification?
You will get a notification
Do you offer ERP therapy virtually in Georgia?
We do!
I just downloaded this app so it might be a stupid question but How do you do ERP over the phone or video?
Video
Hi @NOCD Advocate-Stephen Smith. I was so relieved when I saw Cigna on your home site only to later find out Cigna is not accepted. This is totally the deciding factor for my pursuing treatment at NOCD. I was really disappointed because nearly all specialists in my plan mention cut but not ERP.
Cigna is accepted. It’s just in specific states
Cigna is accepted. It will be in all states by end of the year
Can I ask about the intrusive thoughts OCD? i think its what i have, and its incredibly scary at times because its things that break my heart, pictures of me being unfaithful to my love and other terrible ideas, things that made me scared and questioned what i really loved. Is this similar to what you had, and if so, do you still get these feelings now?
There is a book called harm ocd you may find it helpful
have you gone to a doctor to talk about it and possibly get a diagnosis
Extremely similar to what I have. Everyone has intrusive thoughts, but people with OCD get so horrified by them that they become stuck in their head. Best treatment is ERP since it reaches you how to respond to the thoughts
i was more wondering what the cause or stem or trauma made you get ocd. i don’t believe we are born with it. i believe we use to cope with trauma.
@sapphire8892 it’s my controlling mother, hands down. so i needed something to control.
I don’t think trauma gives you OCD, but maybe we can write a blog on it with our clinical team
Does OHP (Oregon Health Plan) cover this?
Not yet, but we are working on it!
How can i please stop receiving notifications for this post?
You can mute your notifications
Can anyone else not make a post right now?
Not able to see responses that show on my flags
Our team will reach out
@NOCD is there any way I can contact u Stephen I do live in England
Send me an email: Stephen@nocdhelp.com
I can see any of your responses for some reason
Can you please email me a screenshot? Stephen@nocdhelp.com
Do you hel people in Alabama?
Yes! We do.
Do you guys offer therapy in Canada?
We do not yet, but we are working on it!
I’m a teacher and I don’t get paid for the summer. Can I take time off from NOCD therapy until my next paycheck in August?
If you book a free 15 min call with our team, they can help you figure something out. Do you have insurance? We accept many plans
Hello Stephen Smith, I have the same compulsion as you! I google everything. And I know I shouldn’t but sometimes I feel like I can’t help it! I’m curious if there is any help in Indiana?
I feel you. We have help in Indiana. It may be a few days though since we are currently figuring out how to help our therapists navigate some of the new telehealth complexities associated with COVID-19 in Indiana
You are such a blessing! ? God bless you!
We have an amazing team. It isn’t just me here. Thanks for the kind words!
The first description of what you felt is very similar to what I’m seeing in myself right now. I’m just starting to diacover OCD manifestations not related to body movement or actions.
I completely understand.. OCD feels awful
I worked with a local erp therapist for 4 months, but I need to leave her for a couple different reasons. I feel I am doing much better but still needing some assistance. I have two choices- NOCD or a new, local therapist. The local one is trained in erp (some college courses, personal research, and experience) and a Christian which is a plus for me. It is obvious you would promote your own company, but I guess I’m struggling with what’s the “best choice” for me. I am actually becoming quite ocd with this decision. I just don’t know if NOCD will help someone like me who has already seen much progress or if going to this Christian local therapist for some “fine tuning” would be more beneficial for me. Did you struggle or have you seen others struggle with the “finding the best therapist” obsessions? Thanks for your time.
Yes I’m going to take my NOCD hat off for a second because I’m biased. Here is what I’d recommend: 1) look at the end of the day for the therapist or model that can show you outcomes as to how you will get better. Book a free call with the NOCD care team as well as the therapist you are considering and make them give you outcomes showing you how they make people better. The only thing that matters is you get better. 2) talk to a friend or a loved one. When deciding your therapy experience, you should get a trusted second opinion like you would if you make any decision. 3) Look at what others say. Try to find what others say about the therapist you are seeing, and then research their background. For NOCD, ask our team to give you information on the therapist. 4) Look at costs.. which one can you most afford? Does insurance accept the therapist? Affordable treatment makes things so much easier.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thanks. Truth be told, the therapist I’m looking at on here seems to have a great reputation with helping people. She’s located in my state, and her private office takes my insurance but nocd doesn’t. Just thinking through that. Same therapist for either option.
My autistic son has OCD and we have tried many meds and behavioral therapy but nothing has helped him
Sorry to hear that. Where r u from?
Is this coming to Canada?
Yes! Hopefully by the end of this year
Thanks for this, only people with great heart do this. Means a lot for ocd people
I am someone who has OCD too, so no need to thank me. Just so happy we can fix this problem as a community.
You’re an angel for doing this, mental healthcare is so hard to access and OCD esoecially, not very well known aside from your stereotypical known as “neat freak” types. Thank you from a mother just like yours, whose daughter is struggling right now??
We are here to help. Always know that. The steps to help your daughter are to have her understand: 1) she’s not alone, 2) ERP is very effective at treating OCD, and to get better it’s important to see a specialist therapist, 3) When you regain your life amazing things will happen
I hope that one day you all will take tricare, I have so many friends who have OCD and want the help but can’t afford it without using insurance. This is a great service and it’s an awesome way to help sufferers.
NOCD accepts insurance.. for example blue cross blue shield of North Carolina, Cigna, untied healthcare, etc
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and it doesn’t cover.
how does it work with ROCD and what if my insurance doesn’t cover it?
Therapists treat ROCD. It’s $123 per session
There is a self pay option! Sometimes your insurance will accept out of network benefits
I nv .8 mb
Do you know when y’all will be accepting Medicare?
We accept Medicare in some states. Which Medicare plan do you have?
Hey my name is Andrew and I think I've been dealing with symptoms of OCD in a way thats almost identical to what you're talking about (or it seems that way at least) would it be possible for me to chat with you in some way sometime?
Hey here people is very supportive with each other l, we know how bad this is
Of course. If you book a free 15 min call with our care team you can talk to them about it and they can help connect you to effective care
I was told there would be a therapist available in Alabama in “mid-July” any idea how soon we could get in with them?
There should be one now
Do you take Aetna in NJ?
Not yet, but we will soon hopefully
Thank you for this. You are a hero
Our team is really the group to thank. They are doing a tremendous job.
Thank you very much ❤️
Thank you for joining us!
I take Prozac/Fluoxetine (40mg) + Luvox/Fluvoxamine (100mg) daily I'm always worried about these drugs controlling me like decreasing my awareness level and causing me harm in a way that's not in my best interest I sometimes really want to taper off/slowly and safely reduce the dosage with the help of a professional to what is just essential and I worry that If I don't do that I might regret it later I have been on medications for about 3 years now and I believe initially taking these medications was essential to come out of compulsive behaviours like excessive hand washing and checking but now I fear of becoming dependent on these drugs and fear that they are doing more harm than good I want to be the best version of my self, who doesn't? and I fear that it can't be achieved while I'm on these medications Are my fears irrational?
You should definitely consult with a psychiatrist. Do you have one?
Hi Stephen, I’m in desperate need to help for my 13 year old daughter who has OCD. Would we be able to get therapy in Hawaii with Medicaid (HMSA Med-Quest)?
Please let me know!
We aren’t yet in Hawaii, but we will be there soon!
Is your treatment covered by Cigna in I’ll?
Should be by end of this year. We are partnered with Cigna in other states
We have GHI Emblem Health insurance. Do you accept that ? If not what is the cost per session for cash out of pocket payments
Out of pocket is $123 per session. You could also potentially use out of network benefits if you’d like.
Hello. I live outside the united states so i can’t recieve video councilling but im desperate. Whats is the next best alternative available for me in this app?
Try on YouTube the videos of John Glanvill they help understand ocd and will help you if there’s no therapy near you, God bless you friend and I hope the best for you have faith
We might still be able to help by the end of this year, but check out the book “Step Obsessing” by Edna Foa
Hi Stephen, Do you know if any online therapists in Canada—particularly Vancouver, BC? Thank you
We will be there at the end of this month, but I’d urge you to check online on the IOCDF website and see if they can help
Hi there, I’m a new refuge in Australia and have limited access to therapy and fainancialy not good, i was wondering if i can use online video therapy on this app? Thanks a lot
By the end of this year we should be eligible in Australia
Do you offer therapy in Wisconsin?
Not yet but by the end of this month we will!
Hi, I'm just wondering if I can do it in Illinois?
Ya they offer it in Illinois.
I think my OCD has reached the point that I need aggressive treatment in a residential setting. Any suggestions? I’m very nervous about it. :/
@sapphire8892 Awesome thank you! This app has been very helpful.
AMITA Health
AMITA health, in my opinion, is th best option for residential
Stephen- we enjoyed hearing you at IOCDF conf talking about insurance . We are still waiting to hear if my NOCD will be covered by my wife’s insurance. When would we expect to hear about this ? My 1st treatment is aug 10.
What’s her insurance? And in which state?
If you could get Dr. McGrath to speak to how family members can help someone with OCD, that’d be so helpful. If the person with OCD won’t get help, how should that be handled?
Hi sorry it took me a while to get back to you... I know for me it’s important that every family member knows what OCD is.... that it’s not the quirky character of Monk or inability to step on cracks like in the movie as good as it gets. There is a misfire in the brain that causes fight or flight when there is no danger. Over time this can evolve into rituals that are so complex it’s hard to find the origin. Most of all it doesn’t mean you’re dumb in fact I find most people with OCD to be rather intelligent. You cannot force treatment on a grown adult unfortunately if it’s a child you could recommend that you go with them to talk to a psychologist to help them understand what’s happening to them. OCD is a b and it only gets worse if you don’t treat it for the most part. I know when I was a kid I was so embarrassed of it I tried to hide it the best I could (and still do) but the horrible feeling when I was young was that I felt like I was a freak and my mother bless her soul in heaven told me not to ever call myself that or let anyone think that about you. She always treated me as me and not OCD me. Although she did not ignore when I was in turmoil by any means. Just let that family member know that you don’t think different of them. I just like being treated normal and doing my treatment simultaneously.
We will let him know!
I have read it. It doesn’t address what to do if they won’t get help yet are dependent on you even if they’re adults!
Sorry I have more to tell you power has been out where I live because of a storm
See above I hit the wrong talk bubble lol
Do you accept Molina insurance by chance?
Not yet! Medicaid?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Will you consider Medicare? There is A large population of seniors like me who are on fixed incomes. I have a supplemental plan, but won’t pay unless Medicare does. Thank you, Stephen.
Will this be available in the uk?
Yes. We are working on it
how long does one do self e.r.p's? Do I keep exposing myself to my fear until my anxiety is reduced? Its been an hour and its not recuding, just getting worse :/
Are you doing any compulsions (physical or mental) while during these exercises ?
@Evelyn4416 No, I am just experiencing super high anxiety :/
You should first consult an experienced OCD specialist therapist before doing ERP on your own
Does NOCD accept Qwest behavioral insurance (Pennsylvania)? Thank you
We are expanding to PA currently!
Hi its treatment available in the UK yet?
Not yet! We are working on it at the moment though.
Sorry typo
Hello everyone My name is Masha(I'm from Russia), I am 15 years old and have OCD. I've had it since I was a child. When I was little, I was very afraid that something bad would happen to my family, and because of this, I performed the same actions a strictly defined number of times, counting to myself while doing so,then I began to make strange movements with my hands, waving away bad matter in the space in front of me, + when I was surrounded by people, for example in the subway and saw some homeless, sick or unpleasant person, I tried not to look at him, and if I did, I would release the air from my lips to the side, so as not to absorb it his bad aura. I thought I was crazy, but everything changed after I watched "Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners" on TLC. After that, I went to Wikipedia and read everything I could about OCD. When I told my mother about the problem, she didn't take it seriously. Now, my obsessions have disappeared and only compulsions remain. they usually show up when I'm nervous or when I think about my OCD. I really hope to get rid of this, because it makes it difficult for me to focus on my studies and everything else. By the way, because of my illness, I wanted to become a psychiatrist. I will be very happy, if you support me, guys!!!
Thank you for joining and sharing your story. We’d like to support you as you live with OCD as much as possible.
I have Puré O. What can I do to call your therapists ?
You can book a free 15 min call and get setup that way!
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Will NOCD therapy ever be fully free since we don’t wanna tell our parents
I have a granddaughter in Va. who has been on 4 different medications and seen 3 therapists and is no better. She is currently on no medication . What is your cost for your sessions? She has optima health but it’s through Medicaid.
Cost per session is $123. Does that help?
I am from Israel and wish that nocd would be available far away here too.
We are working on it!
Can you tell me if Qwest Behavioral health covers sessions? In Pennsylvania
I don’t believe Quest covers NOCD Therapy yet
I want to feel less agonizing anxiety, but I really question my ability to respond to this treatment. I can’t stand the uncertainty. I did use it for other themes of OCD but I feel like I’ve met my match on this one.
@sapphire8892 Sometimes I really question my will. OCD anxiety has a way of convincing me that all the pain is worth preventing what I’m afraid of. How do you cope?
OCD takes grip on what you love most. I bet you can surprise yourself and accept uncertainty on even the most difficult themes that you are experiencing
That’s what I’m afraid of too!
Lots of commonality with OCD. Sometimes nothing is more liberating than meeting someone who also is going through what you’re going through
I have a daughter who has severe Pure O and constantly get stuck because of the thoughts and compulsions. I made an appointment for her so many times to meet with NOCD therapist but she cannot come to the therapy every time I make an appointment and I end up rescheduling. How can I help to get her to do the therapy? Any advise would be really appreciated. I am at loss.
@sapphire8892 She can’t even have 5minutes of her time because of her constant retuals. I cannot convince her not to do and let the thoughts be there. Asking me for the constant reassurance.
@mina822 Maybe get her out of the house, maybe when you're going to the store. You can talk to her in the car, one on one, and tell her about success stories or show her the website, or helpful youtube videos. I am no professional at all, but it's obvious she needs help. And if she's in the car away from home she can't run away, as ominous as that sounds. But again I'm not a professional, only try this if you think it's a good idea.
@sapphire8892 Would therapy definitely help her? I think she really needs inpatient program.
Maybe there is something a NOCD Member Advocate can do to help? Have you tried reaching out to our team?
Stephen is this available to clients in Australia?
Not yet, but hopefully this year!
What is the cost difference between a 30 and 60 minute session?
30 min sessions are half of the 60 min sessions
Stephen Smith I’m a current OCD sufferer and would like some more information on this ERP telehealth program. Cost and etc. Thanks in advance.
$123 per session, or covered by your insurance. 30 min sessions are half price. People who complete NOCD Therapy on average see a very significant reduction in OCD severity.
is their a person we can text when having attacks but not have to do video chats
This is going to sound rlly weird but call a national mental health hotline. They have ocd specialists there and they r 24 7
Yes. You can message your therapist inside NOCD if you need to speak with her.
Way to give people hope and rip it away by being completely unaffordable without insurance. 👍
My insurance United Healthcare covered all of my NOCD Therapy sessions and I paid $0 per session.. what insurance do you have?
Sorry to hear. Chrissie Hodges has scholarship fund for OCD treatment through OCD Gamechangers. Maybe they can help.
I hope you choke on whatever expensive meal you paid for with this unaffordable service. $240 for 2 sessions? You're a crook and should feel terrible. "Affordable" help, my ass.
Whoa dude. I know you're frustrated, but please don't wish someone to choke. If you are looking for someone affordable, please try and contact Chrissie Hodges, she is a licensed peer support specialist and can help you find affordable treatment globally.
Why would you wish that someone who is trying to help people die? That’s pretty wrong. The price to see most OCD specialists is $250 per session.
@smsmith_14 This service is $123 per session too
@smsmith_14 He's not trying to help. He offers the illusion that there's hope and immediately rips it away. He's a crook.
@Sataniceratops How did he do that to you? I'm not judging, I'm just genuinely curious so we can prevent this from happening to someone else.
@Eljaeee I have had a tremendous experience with my NOCD Therapist Kelly. It was way more affordable than other OCD therapists in the area and when I had to cancel for a couple sessions she was super understanding. We picked back up right where we left off. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but I think there is a misunderstanding here with this person.
@smsmith_14 I do believe so too. I've only ever heard of great things from NOCD. I am just confused and concerned and would like to know how this came about, whether it's a misunderstanding or an actual ill experience.
@Eljaeee Sounds like concern was about price and the affordability of the therapy.
@Eljaeee Says it's affordable but it by no means is. I'd have to go without eating for a month to afford TWO sessions. This isn't "affordable help for everyone" it's for the rich and insured, just like all other healthcare.
@Sataniceratops $50 a week is the payment plan option too.. u should check that out if you can
@Sataniceratops Definitely not time for you to end it! You are loved by people here! I’d recommend you go and call your local emergency number and get to the hospital where you can get treatment. There are programs that can help you pay for it!
@smsmith_14 So they can lock me up against my will, drug me heavily and send me out of there to not be able to afford the meds they get me hooked on? I love on Alabama, they literally couldn't care less about the mentally ill or women. Death sounds better, thanks though
@Sataniceratops Honey were just trying to help. If you don't try ANYTHING, you'll just suffer for longer. Please like I said check out Chrissie Hodges.
@Sataniceratops No. They can get you under appropriate treatment right now, then reach out to NOCD and ask them for residential options that help pregnant women who have Medicaid. They will point you in the right direction. Trust me.
@smsmith_14 ^^^
@smsmith_14 Chrissie is a GREAT option. She was in your shoes in rural Georgia without treatment. She got better too.
@smsmith_14 I won't have insurance as of Tuesday. Going into a forced treatment for however long they decide to hold and torture me with excessive meds will just force me even deeper into debt. They locked my boyfriend up for THREE MONTHS and pumped him so full of SSRIs he couldn't function once they let him out with over $15K of medical debt. They crippled him because he asked for help. They'll do the same to me.
@smsmith_14 I'll try and see if I can magically afford to talk to her. But poor woman... I wouldn't condemn any female to live in the southeastern US. She's lucky she found help.
Yeah, and they're paid to go into work and do work, not sit on their couch for online shit.
Is this whole service free or are there fees? If there are fees, then I will have to delete the app.
You have to pay for the actual therapy sessions through insurance or out of pocket, the rest of the app is free
The app is free but the Therph service costs money or it’s covered by your insurance (and doesn’t cost money or may cost a small percentage of the session fee)
I live in Canada. Can I still benefit from this app
Yes. Check out the SOS section. It will help you learn how to manage OCD episodes.
Thanks , I just had online school and I can't seem to focus.
Anything we can do to help?
We are in Australia and although my son is getting threapy his days have been so bad he is only 13 it seems so unfair he can't even talk about as OCD will not allow him to. Erghh
We are hopefully going to be serving patients from Australia this year!
You should let us no it’s not free
Only the informative 15 call with a NOCD employee is free
15 min call is free, app functionality is free, therapy service costs money (but low cost relatively speaking)
What is the cost? Thanks
$123 per session.
It should be assumed that all goods and services come with a cost.
Yes! Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to cover our costs.
Will the NOCD Video Therapy be available in the UK?
Yes. This year
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith would it be available in the Rep. Ireland this year too?
I’m not sure what I have. Some therapists say I have ocd others say trauma ptsd. How can I know for sure?
Sometimes there is a correlation between both.
Frequently co-occurring conditions.. would recommend you get a comprehensive diagnostic assessment from a licensed therapist who knows both OCD and ERP
Is it possible to live a fully recovered life where ocd is no longer a threat?
Yes. I am at that point currently, and I once was housebound with OCD.
I have a question. Do you all focus on the health related OCD? Obsession with certain diseases and obsessed with getting a certain disease, and also obsession with social media and people over social media you do not know?
We do have therapists who help with health related subtypes
The Avart is distracting for some OCD people could you consider changing it.
If you email us with more info, we can try to help.
@bogie is your daughter alright now?
I am actuallty really scared of ERP around some topics. I had ERP done in case of some tangible things, but my fears just shift their focus onto more abstract concepts. My OCD is mainly existential and philosophical in nature. I do get other intrusive thoughts but these are particularly difficult to get rid of. I have also been diagnosed with depresson, and I am scared that if I try ERP with my "all life is completely meaningless" obsession, I might relapse and do something bad to myself (I have history of self harm and was hospitalized for suicide attempt)
When you have intrusive thoughts, the analysis of them is typically the compulsion.. also avoidance and reassurance can be compulsive.. from my experience as a patient, they key is to answer the thoughts by saying “maybe that could happen, I’ll accept the uncertainty and move on.”
Please work on at least being Tricare authorized!! In network would be great too though. 🙂
We will try!
How is one supposed to accept uncertainty around contamination OCD? I still have trouble with that, even after doing most of a treatment course through NOCD.
Best way to accept uncertainty is to literally tell yourself “maybe that could happen” and when the anxiety comes, the goal is to sit with it and let it naturally decrease... that’s what helped me.. over time the anxiety will naturally decrease
My dad told me about you because he has met you!!! He told me to try this app so here I am. He works at bio haven
That’s so great. We LOVE the Biohaven team
Do you offer services in Florida?
Yes they do, I’m in florida and doing therapy through NOCD
Yes!
Any insurers in NC that cover this therapy?
United healthcare, Cigna, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield
Neurotic instability is often seen as a mental illness in India i.e. it is implicitly considered that the person is not sane, which is why most people in India do not feel free to talk about it. So, could you please think of giving your services in India as well?
We are doing what we can to try and get there!
Hi, is there any type of online OCD support groups for the parents/spouses?
The IOCDF has a list of some online support groups: https://iocdf.org/ocd-finding-help/supportgroups/
The resources Evelyn attached are good ones.
Have you had religious obsessions? I am constantly thinking about religion and it makes it IMPOSSIBLE to live life:(
Yes I have. Very manageable when doing ERP for them
Hey
Hi! Welcome!
No sadly not covered by my insurance. But will find away to pay. Will use my retirement check and my Retirement. Job to pay for it. My wife will also help me .
Ask our team about the payment plan option
Do you have anything available to assist Canadians
Will be live in a few months!
I have bad thoughts about God. Constant cursing him. I have got rid of the compulsions but the thougth seems to botter me. I am doing now Self ERP, but it made it even worse (it worked for a day only). I am still purposefully thinking about the thougths so that the anxiety reduces. Week 2 of my Self ERP. What should I do?
Make sure you aren’t doing any compulsions whatsoever (even mental ones) and give it more time. I didn’t start to see noticeable change once I started ERP until at least a month in
Would contact Chrissie Hodges or Ethan Smith
Hi is this app also for children my 10 year old daughter has OCD.
Yes. Our therapists can treat above 6 years old
Hi stephen, are there any Christian OCD therapists I can contact as my therapist?
Yes. There are many in our network. If you book a free 15 min call with our team we can help you connect with one. Hope that helps!
Do you always see the same therapist after beginning? Thank you. Tammy
Yes you do
Yes!
Hi I called a few days ago and learned that NOCD does not cover my insurance in my area , how can I find out how much I would need to pay if I did want the treatment ?
It’s $123 per session self pay
What are the benefits of ERP?
It’s the gold standard OCD Therapy. It will help you learn to manage your OCD fears so that they stop bothering you as much.
What is the price for a session i do not have insurance
$123 per session
I am in the UK. Can I still use this app?
Yes!
I just finished my last hour session and felt I was doing better but today I feel very anxious like I am going backward. Why. Do you think this is happening?
OCD ebbs and flows.. the key is getting the tools needed to manage those episodes.
Is Blue Cross of Idaho accepted? My understanding is that it's not quite the same as Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Not yet, but hopefully soon!
Hello Stephen, I am desperate for help and support with my OCD. At first it was difficult to accept that that’s what I have but now I am open to help and want to get better however I am in the UK and cannot access a therapist. When will you go international with the app?
In a few months!
Is there a way to give my information electronically on intake, rather than over the phone. I'm uncomfortable giving my address and credit card information on a call that is "recorded for quality assurance." Local therapists (at least my last one) had me fill out paper records and email them back to her. That seems a bit more secure.
Unfortunately not today, but our team is working on it. We have a very secure system though. Our COO helped found electronic prescribing and is a Healthcare IT expert.
My 19 year old son has been diagnosed with severe anxiety with obsessive components but numerous therapists just won’t label him as OCD because he doesn’t fit into the “ exact” definition. He DOES have constant obsessive thoughts that are causing severe depression and ruiining his life. So frustrated -he’s seen numerius psychiatrists/ different medications / its still really bad. I believe( im a NP) as does his sister that he has OCD. Can someone refer us to a specialist to diagnose this?
Sounds like OCD from what you are saying. If he’d like to do a diagnostic assessment, one of our therapists could help.
Hi Stephan, would you be able to comment on intensive courses for OCD. I’ve been told by a specialist that just like people with addictions need to be in rehab people with OCD similarly initially need intensive work with regards to habituation. This is more so for severe cases.
Would def check out the iocdf or ocd UK for intensive course info
I’ve been in talk therapy for the last year. About halfway through, I started to realize that I have OCD. My therapist has since confirmed that I do have it, but that she believes mine was created in response to trauma from my childhood (c-ptsd). I suffer from several intrusive thoughts, one of them POCD about my kids. I mentioned ERP and she said we couldn’t do exposure therapy for that, is that true? Will ERP be effective for someone with ptsd? I felt like I was doing better with some of her methods, but I’m overwhelmed and googling every symptom and worry I have again. I’m to the point where I don’t ever see it getting better.
@Bryan Can you explain a lil
@Bryan DBT?
@Bryan That’s the first time I’ve been told that. My OCD doesn’t pertain to any of the trauma I experienced (a controlling/ abusive step parent, neglect by my mother and father, etc)
@Bryan Are you familiar with ERT for intrusive sexual thoughts. I don't even like leaving the house now. As soon as I do and see someone nasty thoughts jump in my head continuously
I’m not a therapist so I can’t give clinical guidance, but I’d recommend getting a comprehensive diagnostic assessment by a clinician. Our therapists are all trained in ERP and managed by our clinical leadership team, so they might be able to give some guidance if you need someone. If not a fit, try searching psychology today.
How do we view our upcoming appointments on the app?
It should be in your clincial portal
I would love to not care and not respond to obsessive thoughts.
It comes with practice
First off thank you so much for this man. I'm 16 and I too suffer from OCD especially religious OCD and being a religuous person,it hurts me a LOT! But the thing I've seen is that these video conferences are not pissisb outside USA and I'm from India. It would be of great help if you could plz allow vide conferences outside USA too. Thanks so much for ur effortonfe again. Stay blessed 🙏
Same man
We are working on serving India.. hopefully by end of this year
I talked with counselor Julie. She said she didn’t know if you could help me. Could someone get back to me
We def can help and maybe offer you some other options. Could you please contact care@nocdhelp.com and copy Davida.Vaughn@nocdhelp.com on the email?
Hi, Steven My name is JEB from Virginia. I have been suffering from OCD since probably seventh grade. I am 53 now and had been successfully treated with anti depressants for almost 22 years. I had an accident that disabled me, so I no longer am able to work. My OCD symptoms returned about two years ago, as I have had little to occupy my mind. I have the " harming myself or my family" type of OCD. I was having some relief from in- person therapy until covid pandemic stopped my therapy. I am currently reading a book by Sally Watson, titled "Overcoming Intrusive Thoughts" and it helps a lot. God bless you for your NOCD app. You are giving hope to a largely misunderstood population of OCD folks. Thank you.
JEB we’d love to help. Are you seeing a therapist via NOCD? Would be great to connect you with one of ours (if of interest of course) or help you find another therapist who can help you via video conferencing sessions. Just let us know how we can help you!
Sorry. The author's name could be Sally Watkins.
Do you think it matters whether someone sees a male or female therapist? Also, what if we have made exposures compulsive in the past? Will they be giving us ERP homework? I fear constantly I need to be doing more exposures in order to recover but am not good at implementing them myself. Thank you!
The key so you work with a therapist who you trust and bond with. The rapport is key. Each of our therapists are trained in ERP and managed by our team, so you don’t have to worry about that.. The key is rapport. We will work with you until you find a therapist who you connect with. Hope that helps
Is your program available in NYC?
Hi I am from NYC and I used NOCD 🤗
Yes!
Hi! I tried contacting NOCD a few times now with no luck....I suffer from a moderately harm OCD form and I would really like to enroll in your program. The only problem I came across, is that I don't live in the US. How can we make this work? Thank you!
NOCD is only available in the US right now - maybe in the future it’ll expand internationally!
We are just in the US at the moment but expanding to some international countries this year!
Hi Stephen, could you please email me at sunmickeyhk@gmail.com? My brother is suffering emotional Contamination OCD and I really need your help and suggestions.
What does emotional contamination mean? I have contamination OCD
@squidward having trouble doing some everyday activities because of doing things over and over again trying to neutralize the intrusive thoughts of connecting previous experience. Since you have contamination OCD, what solutions you have taken to eliminate your symptoms?
@Anonymous I can’t touch the garbage, fridge or technically anything outside of my room. I wear baggys on my hands to do simple things like getting milk out of the fridge, or i clean the bottom of the shower with bleach to make it not dirty. I do so many things let me no if you want to know more
@squidward Do you have any solutions or strategies to recover?
@Anonymous no unfortunately i think i’ll forever be scared of germs
@Anonymous Hi! Honestly the best way to reach recovery for OCD is by doing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). It’s considered the golden standard for OCD treatment and has high success rates
@squidward Have you done the ERP?
@Evelyn4416 What actions does ERP actually do? Will therapist do some games with patients?
@Anonymous no because im scared
@Anonymous i think its like touching the garbage and not washin hands after and letting the anxiety fade away
@Anonymous It’s not games but you and your therapist will come up with exposure exercises for you to exposure yourself to and you have to not participate in compulsions, have the anxiety/distress you experience decrease naturally. Here’s a link to the IOCDF website that explains it better: https://iocdf.org/about-ocd/ocd-treatment/erp/ I’ve been in therapy and doing ERP since March and I’ve seen HUGE improvement in my OCD. It works very well but you have to put the work in
@Evelyn4416 Do you have the type of emotional contamination OCD too? If not, what type of OCD do you have?
@Anonymous I’ve once in a while dealt with contamination but my main themes are suicidal ocd and existential ocd. However keep in mind it doesn’t matter what the theme is, OCD is treated the same way across the board
@Evelyn4416 Thank you
@Anonymous Hi, I have the same OCD as you. I also put bags over my hands so I don't get contaminated. I also use tissues sometimes so I don't touch light switches, etc... We should talk sometime and perhaps support each other. Are you in the US? I would leave my email but I'm not sure who sees these messages at this point. I am new to the site.
Sure. Email coming soon
Stephen hello! Your website says ocd is worldwide. So excited I was to discover you and tried to schedule a call. I'm in the UK. So disappointing to find I can't be helped other than online. Its worldwide but you gotta live in the States 😢
@Bryan Hi Bryan, you can't get NOCD one to one therapy outside of the States
You can’t get NOCD Therapy yet outside US, but it’s changing this year. Please stay patient!
I'm in Arizona. I have Mercy care I need help bad I can't even work.I dont want to become homeless and lose my car over this.I need help.
Have you considered contacting the IOCDF and telling them your story?
I really need help no one has ever reach out to me yet I have Kaiser which will pay for it
What is going on please
Kaiser might pay for it now, depending on where you live
I'm in NY. DO YOU TAKE UNITED HEALTHCARE COMMUNITY PLAN?
We don’t yet. But we are hoping to do so soon!
Hi Stephen and everyone on this site. I just moved to South Carolina and now have Ambetter health insurance. I could have gotten blue cross blue shield. Does NOCD take either of these?
We should be accepting BCBS SC soon!
Is this available in Massachusetts? Also does medicare cover it.im suffering badly with no help
This is available in MA but Medicare does not cover it yet
Hello there! I recently joined this group because of stellar reviews from trusted friends. I was also impressed to find this app listed on multiple platforms as a top mental health startup. I’m hoping to add a therapy regimen to amplify the results of my current treatment plan. I also wanted to share that I’m having exceptional results so far with a deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation OCD specific FDA-approved protocol. I have constant benign but intrusive distracting thoughts as well as dermatillomania (skin picking). I have stopped picking my skin and it has healed. My psychiatrist strongly recommends adding therapy for a comprehensive and lasting treatment plan. Thank you for this resource. Thank you for channeling your own pain and experiences for the benefit of others.
Thank you for joining us! If there’s ever anything we can to do help you, please let us know
I know this is late but thank you for making this man. You really are making a difference
Thanks for your recognition. We are so happy you are with us in this community
Hello sir Iam suffering from OCD of Peripheral vision . Would you suggest an effective ERP treatment for that.
ERP is the way to go for all OCD subtypes
Religious OCD! Iam a Christian, I wonder which Exposure should be done. I have suffered for over a decade
Which area of it are you troubled eith
Do you work with a therapist who specializes in OCD and ERP?
Hi Stephen, Can anyone work for NOCD? Are there any jobs available at NOCD?
What are you looking for? Email us at info@nocdhelp.com and our team will receive it
How does a person cope with intrusive, blasphemous thoughts concerning Christianity? I have been struggling for weeks and it is only getting insanely worse
Hi, I’m a Christian and I’ve dealt with this for a long time. It’s dealt with the same way as any other intrusive thoughts - by not giving it the attention it deserves. The more you fight against it, try to cover up the “bad” thoughts with the “good”, etc., it fuels the fire, so to say. I know it’s hard to let the thought remain there because it’s horrible and against God, but it’s just what OCD does and I believe God knows what we go through and that it isn’t our fault these thoughts appear. What we do instead is, when the thought appears, don’t fall into the compulsions we are so used to doing. Instead, acknowledge the thought occurred, then move onto something else. The less we give it attention, the less the thoughts will occur
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn Is that something we practice in therapy sessions?
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn I also wanted to clarify that it “feels” like it’s horrible and against God - us having these intrusive thoughts isn’t a disrespect to God because again I believe he understands our struggle
@spatzy137 Yes! You and your therapist would work on exposures together focused on it
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn I dont understand how to acknowledge the thought occured then move onto something else. For example, when my mind is saying " You can't apply for a job, you havent been able to step out of the house without major anxiety so theres no way you can handle socializing at a job interview or on a job even if you actually got hired" ....I dont know how to tell myself "ok so you had those thoughts but I'm just gonna go apply for a job anyways because I'm fine ". I've tried replacing negative thoughts with positive ones but that barely helps & often it doesnt help at all. So I've read were supposed to acknowledge the thought but move onto something else? How?? Even if I start a different activity to "distract " myself or manage to stop the obsessive thought, the thought starts up again the minute I think about the fact that I need to get a job.
@untethered Wow. I experience this myself hopefully this treatment helps us 🧘♀️
@untethered The key is 1) identifying the thought is OCD and 2) radical acceptance of it.. so if I had the thoughts that you described, I would say to myself “maybe I won’t be able to handle the job, I’ll accept the uncertainty and apply anyways.” I’ll feel anxious for a while and then the anxiety will naturally subside... the goal is accepting uncertainty, and OCD specialists will help you do that
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I'm just now seeing this response you posted 4 days ago to my question. I'm new to this site /app & I'm only familiar with Facebook where I get notification specifically on comments /posts that I wrote. I was wondering if anyone responded to my question from the other day so I had to go into tha search bar & enter my screen name....that's how I just found your response. Is that what I will always have to do to find/ read responses?
@untethered Hi. I’ll answer for the advocate- yes, that is what you’ll have to do every time. I’m having second thoughts on this app because of how user-unfriendly it is. Also people rarely respond to other’s comments. I don’t feel like it offers any real help. I’d love a second opinion.
@modernfemale Yes its definitely not user friendly. I randomly get a notification that someone commented on a thread that I wrote in but when I click on the notification it just scrolls through the comment thread & stops at most recent comment but I didnt get notified when you or someone else commented on my comment? 🤦♀️🤦♀️too confusing bc too many comments to look through. And the price for a session is around $120?! They dont take my insurance & I CANNOT afford even close to $120 per session so idk if I should delete this app from my phone. Dont seem to be getting help with how to deal with OCD. 😢😭
@untethered I’m sorry to hear about both of your experiences, but I appreciate your candid feedback. 1) in regards to the notifications- that’s a bug and our team will fix it. Thank you for raising it! 2) in regards to the questions being answered- it depends on the type of question that you ask. We are making some modifications to the community which will be visible in the next few months, to help people know what questions to ask and also to connect more with people who are experienced that can offer advice. 3) in regards to the price of therapy- standard ERP specialty care actually is $200+ per session and there’s no insurance. To manage OCD, the gold standard treatment is ERP. We reduced the price to try and make it more affordable for people. We also are working rapidly with more insurance providers... it’s not going to happen overnight, but should happen in about a year
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you for responding. (1) You're welcome. That'll get good if you're team fixes it. (2) Its good that theyll be some modifications in few months but for those that need help now, is there a "tutorial" or some kind of instructions on how to navigate through this app/ system at this time? I remember seeing very few "instructions " when I set the app up but maybe I missed some? I just find this confusing but I'm fine using FB, interacting with people on their LIVE videos or using Zoom. But this app is confusing to me. (3) It would make a world of a difference if you guys accepted my insurance UHC Community plan so hopefully that gets added when you said some will be added in about a year .
@untethered Would it be possible if I connect you with our team so that we can better understand the elements that you find confusing? Is it the community feed or other parts to the app?
Hi Stephen. Is NOCD currently accepting Superior Health Care? I know you began accepting United Health Care, but I have Superior unfortunately, that is if you don’t accept it.
I’ll talk to our team. We will reach out to our friends at Centene to see if they will work together with us on their plan, Superior.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thank you Stephen
I am seeking treatment I haven't heard anything back from my therapist yet looking forward to speaking with her about obsessive compulsive behaviors I experience
Seeking treatment through us? Who is your therapist? Would be happy to help
I have been really scared and bothered by those thoughts as well. I also search online when my thoughts are frequent to try to understand it. Now that I understand that it's not me, it's not something I can help it is easier to overlook the thoughts. I dont want to try antipsychotics but I'd like to find a good SSRI for the thoughts
Would be careful about searching online.. that’s a compulsion.. have you considered seeing a licensed therapist that specializes in OCD and ERP?
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith I also think it wise to rule out any neurological issues , be checked out by your primary care doctor for any possible physical issues and definitely add to the therapy with a good psychiatrist so you can try an SSRI as there's good science behind their success .
Hi I suffer from HOCD and ROCD and I’ve been suffering from it for years. I am currently in therapy here but am terrrified of exposure therapy I try so hard to fight the thoughts and exposure therapy tells me to just let them happen but I mentally can’t. I need help
It’s all about responding to the thoughts in an acceptance based way. Here’s what that means: When you have intrusive thoughts like HOCD and ROCD the thoughts will almost happen automatically at times and they are insanely bothersome. The goal is to learn HOW to respond to them, from personal experience. Sometimes you will have an automatic response to analyze the thoughts and you will try to reassure yourself, review past events, or check bodily sensation . These are all compulsions and make your thoughts more frequent and worse over time, despite alleviating anxiety in the moment. When that happens, I’ve learned to always turn to response prevention. I 1) identify the situation as OCD and 2) I immidetiaetly start saying in my head “maybe these thoughts have meaning”.. “maybe I feel that way”.. “maybe I am (insert your fear)” The response prevention “how you respond” is what’s key here. Hope that helps.
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith So are you saying that if I have an intrusive or obsessive thought & I analyze it by looking at past events then try to reassure myself with a thought like "I didnt get hurt last time so I will be ok this time" that the reassuring thought is a compulsion??? And other question is are you suggesting a good response is to acknowledge it's an all OCD related & simply tell our self "maybe I am afraid " & do nothing more? Bc doint nothing more than thinking a simple thought like that will MAJORLY increase my anxiety. I'd end up thinking "Well duh, I already knew I was afraid...so now what do I do to stop obsessively thinking & panicking over how to handle this situation?!"
I could use some help. I live in southern Colorado where finding an ERP therapist that takes Medicare and Medicaid is hard to do. Any advice? Thank you.
Very difficult task. Most are only self pay in CO. We don’t take Medicaid and Medicare in CO, but we offer people on Medicaid and Medicare payment plan options to spread out the cost of therapy (in case it helps)
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith Thanks for responding
I have ocd and a lot of it has to do with being stuck in an isolated place. Tried CBT via online counselling and it didn't work. Not my therapist fault my own fault. Going to a therapist is not in my option.
CBT for OCD is often talk therapy.. not evidence based for OCD.. critical you do ERP, a type of CBT, that teaches you to not challenge your OCD fears but learn how to manage them by accepting the uncertainty behind then
Will you have treatment for people in Puerto Rico soon?
We will try this year
How much does ERP therapy cost through your site per session ? Medicaid is my only insurance company.
$123 per session. For people with Medicaid documentation, we offer payment plans in effort to try and make it more affordable
I'm strictly disabled and only receive SSI
If you book a call with our team we might be able to help either by treating your ourselves or referring you to someone who is a better fit
Do you accept Florida Medicaid?
We don’t. But we do things to make it easier for Medicaid
How can I get ERP therapy in California for my 10 year old who says she won’t talk.
Do you see the therapist button? Select it and book a 15 min call with our team. They will get you signed up.
Hey Stephen ...Can I get ERP in South Africa?
I’m not sure if there are ERP trained therapists there, but I do know teletherapy is an option.
Are you looking to expand your therapy to the uk ?
This week it will be expanded.. by end of the week I believe
I am new here. Do you accept BC BS of Florida?
Soon. if you email john@nocdhelp.com and explain your story and the need for BCBS FL insurance we might be able to get that partnership faster (it will be this year)
Hello, Do you accept Cigna for Florida?
Cigna in FL is accepted
Yes we do!
Havent seen any of the 'nocd advocates' comment back on anyones questions or really anything for a good month or so.....what a nice app...honestly shouldve listened to the warning how this app will probably just make my ocd worse...like....are you serious...wow
Hi there! Did you have a specific question that didn’t get answered?
@Minde Yes
@Allen1 What question do have? Maybe I can help.
@Minde Im wondering where I can get a therapist for help with this for free because I have no money at all whatsoever for this, because I don't make enough money, so i need somewhere at least where i can get real tips and helpful advice on starting some of the behavioural therapies that therapists would do WITH you i just need some tips or something pleasr to get started....this run around of not being able to talk to a therapist for some advice on how to just get going on the right path, sure I want like a support system but...cant afford that....so it would be nice if i could just get some real life tips on how to get rid of ocd...and I really don't like how people just quote what google search tells you to do...which is either find a therapist or seek help through your insurance company lmfao....like I am looking for FREE help competely FREE help not this bull 15 minute free or one session for free and that session is always just an assessment so they dont help you with anything they literally are just using that FREE time to put together an itinerary should you WANT to take the next step and pay for treatment or a therapist....like wow.....im just at the end of my rope like this is so effin dumb
@Allen1 I really admire your determination to seek advice and get real life tips on how to manage OCD! A couple things I utilize that are free are the OCD stories podcast and the NOCD weekly webcasts. They feature qualified experts and advocates who understand OCD and ERP. If you join the webcasts live, you can ask questions for them to address. You can access them here on the app or on the NOCD YouTube page. Hopefully others will respond to this with some other suggestions! I wish you the best!
@Allen1 Hi. Ali Greymond has a great set of videos to help you with your OCD. She literally discusses all themes, obsessions and compulsions and gives fantastic advice as well as strategies on managing your symptoms. She posts regularly, so I really advise you check that out :)
@Allen1 Here’s the link to her YouTube channel https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC1qeEI9khAj7YpYXUDuADIw
@Intrusive Thots Thank you very much, ill look at her tips in her video
@Allen1 What insurance do you have? What things in life do you expect to pay for and what things in life do you expect to be free? There are free resources in the app.. if you want a service it is going to cost some..
Sorry to hear about that. We def don’t want to make your OCD worse... we do offer free resources such as webinars, events, self help tools, etc to try and help..
How do you get notified of promotions? The current cost is too much for me and I know there was a recent promotion of $50 & $23 which is something I can do! My OCD is immobilizing at this point and wrecking my relationships so I would like to be aware or notified when the next promotional offer is?
There are no promotions.. if you need a payment plan that could work such that it’s $50 per week and you pay off your balance of sessions over time... For example, if you do 8 sessions in one month and generate a $400 bill.. you would pay $50 per week for 8 weeks straight
@smsmith_14 I saw a whole thread of multiple meme bees talking about a promotion and how they would pay $50 for the first session and $23 for the rest
@ObsessiveCaringDetermined Members***
@ObsessiveCaringDetermined From what I can remember there used to be a promotion going on for that price, but that was back last year around March. No idea if it’s been done again since then
We might have more promotional offers.. but we are trying additional ways to make the service affordable. The reason- we have to pay our therapists and often they charge a specific rate. Does that make sense?
I have health anxiety Ever since I had hernia surgery Can t get the thought out of my mind Can’t sleep good without taking a Benzo
Is health anxeity ocd ?
Have you ever considered meditation at night? Regarding your thoughts, have you considered getting an assessment from a professional to see if you have OCD?
I am to shy for a video conferencing, what should i do?
Face your fears
It’s proven to be just as effective as in person. I would try it and see how you like it.
Hello I am suffering from ocd. Unfortunately, money is very tight right now. I also don’t have insurance. What options are available for me?
Hey a great resource is listening to Ali Greymond’s videos on YouTube.
We can help you with payment plan.. where you can pay off your therapy balance over time.. so if you 10 sessions and generate $1,000 worth of bills from therapy sessions... we will allow you to pay $200 per month for 5 months until your total balance is paid off
@NOCD Advocate - Stephen Smith But even $200/mo. is quite a stretch for many (and specially nowadays). Hopefully you can offer additional payment options for those that need it. Most people need many more than 10 sessions as well and that adds up quick!
Hey Stephen. I'm very depressed from th OCD and don't think I can handle the ERP alone!!!
It’s actually not as hard as it sounds to your brain. And it’s literally the only thing that will help you no struggle with OVD. I encourage you to give it a shot.
That’s why we built NOCD, so that you don’t have to do it alone! We are here and so is the community
Do you have any Information about ERP specialists in european courties? Im currently seeing a therapist (a long story) but we are not doing ERP and i dont feel rlly confortable with him. I'm scared to start treatment, im scared of the future i might have with ocd, im basically stuck and afraid to look for another therpist because they might say that i dont have ocd because my theme (tocd and pure o more recently) are not true.
Hi Stephen, thank you for sharing your story, does ERP work if you only have pure-o? I have debilitating obsessions but no physical compulsions.
Most likely compulsions are mental... for example mentally reassuring yourself, analyzing your thoughts to make them go away, and reviewing past events are all compulsions
I still don’t know what erp is
Google it. They expose you to what you fear to overcome the uncertainty and anxiety of it.
My son didn’t like ERP I took him out of that therapy, she would throw a hammer, knife, what ever he feared right at his feet, I don’t believe in that type of therapy
Exposure and Reponse Prevention, here’s a link to the IOCDF explaining it in great detail (https://iocdf.org/about-ocd/ocd-treatment/erp/) Essentially, you exposure yourself to something that triggered you (Exposure) and instead of doing compulsions, which is what keeps us stuck in our OCD, we don’t respond and instead sit with the discomfort (Response Prevention) and let it naturally leave instead. A lot of the time we think that we need to interact with our fears immediately in order to neutralize it and feel better, but it’s only temporary and brains ourselves that the fears need to be responded to when it really doesn’t. When we do ERP, this helps us to break the cycle and eventually the fears don’t bother us anymore (or to the degree is once did).
@zoozoopetals ERP is essential to OCD recovery. I would recommend looking into what it really is because other therapies won’t help like ERP does. It could be that that specific therapist was going too fast with the exposures but if your son has harm OCD and those items are his triggers, it’s on the right track. ERP can be very hard to do, but I really recommend not removing him from something that can help him so much down the line if he doesn’t like it now. Here’s a link to look more into ERP (https://iocdf.org/about-ocd/ocd-treatment/erp/)
@zoozoopetals I am not a professional. But the way I think it should be done, the client always has the say-so on whatever the exposure is. So, if someone is throwing something at my feet without my permission ahead of time, that’s a no go. Even then, "throwing things at someone’s feet" might be a little much.
Hi there, am I able to still get therapy if I live in Canada ? Thank you
No. They just did talk therapy and our son is still housebound.
Try NOCD and exposure and response prevention
Talk therapy isn’t very helpful when it comes to OCD. I was in talk therapy myself for a little while noticing no changes in my symptoms. It wasn’t until I started with an OCD specialist and did ERP where I finally began to see progress
Anybody asd and ocd ?
Hello. Just wondering -can you pick the therapist you want to see as long as they’re in your state?
Hey! I think it is possible that as long as they’re in your state and working with NOCD that you can request one by name :-)
What’s going on Steven. Former college football player here as well. I have a question in regards to if you ever experienced HOCD. I legitimately never had a problem with anything related to men until extremely recently. One bad experience with a girl was enough to make me question my whole life. Then that lead to constant constant intrusive thoughts and grounals. I feel disgusting. I can’t even seem to be in public or around my guy friends. I see obscene images constantly and I can’t even tell who I am anymore. I can’t even feel comfortable around my own gender and I feel like I lost a part of who I am. I can assure you I am not a gay man and have only ever been with, fantasized about, been attracted to, or plan on being with women. Not homophobic by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe in who I am and that is not me. Please if you have any advice at all, I’d love to hear it
I’ve noticed that it is always triggered by a traumatic memory or event. Definitely intrusive and unrealistic thoughts man.
@Anonymous My groinals are the only thing that kills me. And I know it’s not sexual attraction. It’s bc of the sexual image that immediately presents itself in my head...it definitely stemmed from a porn addiction and I could be going through porn withdrawal symptoms as well. But it’s so sickening to me that I can’t even look at my best friends the same man....I fucking broke down in tears the other day
How about expanding this to Portugal? It seems Therapists over here only specialize in generic CBT, and from my experience this actually made my OCD worse
How do u find therapy cheap if u live in NY & you have insurance but it won’t cover (I was trying to pay $600/month for it but I absolutely couldn’t afford it)
Hello @NOCD Advocate Is there any help available in india? if yes the please let me know I require a therapist please
Hello. I’m new to the group. Could anyone advise me please. I don’t have ocd but my teenager son feels he has. It took him a few years to mention it to me and now that he has I want to help him and support him completely. I am trying to understand his thought process but because I don’t understand it how can I help him. What do I need to do? Obviously I’m listening /supporting and taking time to try understand .
I am not a professional. I have had OCD for 37 years. I started treatment 26 years ago. To me, OCD is in some ways similar to a phobia. For example, I have contamination OCD. So my fears are of my hands/body getting dirty or contaminated with a chemical or blood. A germophobe might be afraid of the same things. I suspect that the germophobe would be anxious when around dirty, bloody, or otherwise contaminated things. Now for me with my OCD before treatment: I was afraid of getting contaminated almost continuously throughout the day, even in my own home. Examples of things I was afraid to touch- door knobs, light switches, shopping carts, my sneakers, the floor, the grass, bugs, walls, tv remotes, people’s hands (to shake them), cleaning products, fertilizer, fabric softener, even mouthwash. The list goes on and on. Plus, with OCD, I had the compulsions to go with it. If I touched something that I THOUGHT was contaminated, I would wash my hands. Sometimes I would wash them 2 or 3 times in a row in order to "get the contamination off". If I touched the floor 5 minutes later to pick up a pencil, I would go wash my hands again. Whenever I touched something I thought was(or might be) contaminated, I would wash my hands as soon as possible. The fear and thoughts about contamination all day long constitutes the obsession. The hand washing is the compulsion. Before treatment, I could do very little to combat OCD. It had crippled me. And well meaning family members trying to convince me that something wasn’t contaminated only caused animosity between us, and a feeling of tremendous shame on my part. I felt like I HAD to wash my hands. Other types of OCD are about getting things "just right", counting or checking things a certain number of times, intrusive sexual and/or violent thoughts and the fear of acting out on them, and many, many others. But, once I got into treatment, I was shown how to gain the upper hand on OCD by using ERP. I suggest you try to get ERP for your son. An SSRI med has helped me, too. Other therapies that I have tried had no effect on my OCD symptoms.
@kabunk Thankyou for your reply x

Hello. I'm kadine. I'm new on here
Welcome Kadine!
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn Thank you
immense respect and admiration for people like you
He is preparing us for something greater!!! Because this thing sucks and we have to be strong and He says He who began a good work in you will see it through to completion
I have was sexually assaulted as a child for many years and then turned to promiscuity and drugs for comfort. I am recently baptized but constantly feel inadequate for Our Creator. I am angry all the time bitter and an emotional rollercoaster
I have also struggled with not feeling good enough for God and the tricky truth is that we are never going to be good enough under the law but..... the great news of the Gospel is that God makes us perfectly righteous through Jesus!!! Not perfectly behaved but perfectly righteous as though we have never sinned, which seems crazy bc we know all the times we have messed up! Jesus was our PERFECT sacrifice and took our place and punishment that we deserved!! God did it because he knew we could never be good enough and because HE LOVES US!!! We will never be able to earn or deserve His grace!! Grace is the undeserved unmerited favor of God that we RECEIVE by trusting what Jesus did for us! It is a gift that we must receive, and in order to receive it we must simply open our hands up and take it, not because we earned it or worked for it but because it’s a gift! I have to tell myself when I refuse to receive what Jesus died to give me, I’m insulting his death and payment for my sins! Watch The Good O Meter on You Tube 2:57 it’s a silly but TRUE look at how great and easy the gospel is! Don’t look at what you do or did, look to the Cross at what Jesus has DONE!! He cried out it is FINISHED! Past present and future sins all TAKEN AWAY by the Perfect Blood of Christ! REST in His LOVE FOR YOU!!!
Do you accept Cigna? I’m in Virginia.
Have you spoken with a NOCD therapist? Just remember it’s OCD!! Check out the book Brain Lock by Dr Jeffrey Schwartz and Breaking Free of OCD by Jeff West
Brain lock is a great book. I have a lot of things highlighted in that book
Hi sir I really need help
I’m in the U.K.
Do you accept Medicaid of Kentucky
I am hoping to take The coarse soon if my insurance will pay for it
I have a question before I start this NOCD treatment, I recently found out a month ago that I may have existential OCD..but I dont know if that's even heard of or treated, does this place cure existential OCD? I've recently been having intrusive thoughts such as "am I the only conscious person" or "is anything real or just an illusion" it's been driving me crazy and I've felt like no body understands me...so I really hope I get the best of help here.
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help!! I’m so glad that I did!! I had a wonderful therapist prior to contacting NOCD but they were not specially trained for ocd and while cbt is great for anxiety it can be terrible at times for ocd. Regardless of what type of ocd you may have the folks at @NOCD are amazing and are here to help!! You will be glad that did!! And listen, we have all been where you are and it is not a great place, so reach out and get help!!! Blessings!!!!!
Is this effective if you are currently taking an ssri?
Many people take an SSRI while also receiving OCD therapy. It can be a very effective combination for people who also need the SSRI assistance.
Thank you Stephen for sharing your journey and hope. As someone also with OCD, I have found that ERP combined with ACT are absolutely the key to symptom relief. I am both an OCD therapist and a Certified Sex Therapist and have treated many people over the past couple of decades. My own relief from OCD symptoms came from ERP/ACT treatment. Thank you for making this accessible for so many fellow sufferers of what can be such a debilitating disorder.
Are any of you on medication yet?
Not sure if you read all of these, but I've dealt with the struggle you survive and I believe in what you're doing. I told my health coach at Cigna and recommended NOCD (who has talked with me as I struggled through 4 providers in 6 months and not gotten the help I needed even though I was looking for an in network ERP certified provider who had the experience to help me) and he said he'd bring this resource to his team.
Wow look at all these comments, all these people ! I am only newly aware of my obsessive thoughts & the anxiety that is linked to them. Newbie jitters!
Are sessions available for international patients? I'm from India.
I want to give up.
Same, what are you dealing with?
@Anonymous Relationship ocd. Contamination. I have crazy thoughts about my partners hygiene and I don't feel I love them. I would end it all but I cant for my mom. Also im so attached to my partner I cant break it off. I hope you're ok.
@Anonymous I wish you the best. I hope you can get treatment, don’t give up, there’s a way out of this! Sending love
Hang in there buddy. I know exactly how you feel.
Is it common for people with OCD to have intrusive thoughts about their therapist?
Yes. Intrusive thoughts can be about anything/anyone.
Is your treatment covered by Medicare? I’m in Pennsylvania!
Anyone out there have harm OCD. I think about suicide all the time and can’t get rid of these thoughts.
Hey! I deal with harm specifically suicidal ocd - is this what you’re experiencing?
@NOCD Advocate - Evelyn I am not sure. It’s something that I have been dealing with since the birth of my child. It’s totally taken over my left. And, sucked all the happiness out of me.
@Anonymous Please contact a therapist if you can, and read about harm/suicidal OCD — you will read that the aim is not to ‘get rid of the thoughts’. Rather, to live with them and eventually, with the correct therapies, they subside. I wish you so well. Best of luck ♥️
Do we have to pau
Idk I think if you need a therapist then you would have to pay
Hi Stephen, does Anthem Blue cross Blue Shield of wisconsin cover ERP therapy?
thank you for starting this organization Stephen!
Can you see two therapists? I’ve been seeing my therapist for a long time and she helps me with my other issues. I’m not sure yet if she does ERP.
If I could just add on an 8-week program, that would be great. I’m sure insurance won’t cover everything, though.
I guess I could also take a break from my current therapist and try ERP. Complicated.
I think you could see 2 therapists you just want to make sure your not getting mixed messages that can be counterproductive. Maybe talk with your current therapist about taking a break to do ERP or make sure you let them know why you are doing the ERP so that signals don’t get crossed. But if your current therapist hasn’t talked about ERP or isn’t OCD trained it’s going to be difficult to get the help you need from them. I had a great therapist that really helped me but couldn’t help me with ocd or actually was giving reassurance through cbt which inadvertently hurt my ocd. You won’t be disspointed that you did the erp
@jc61 Thank you for your thoughts! I appreciate it. ❤️
Is there any help in Iowa?? My son is 18 and is at a rock- bottom
SOS!
Hey - NOCD is available in all 50 states so I’d recommend calling in for more info! :)
Evelyn did you do a loop tape
Yes I have!
This is carlos and my son it's brayan
Hi Carlos, I’m sorry to hear that. I’d recommend calling the NOCD number or chatting with support through the Support Chat for help with the payments!
Hi there! Your business is great, once I sign up am I contracted to that certain amount of sessions or can I cancel if need too?
Hi Steven, Did medication help you get better or was it strictly ERP? Or ERP in conjunction with medication?
Medication helped me to slow down the intensity of the thoughts so I could at least try to process them a bit and not feel so emotionally overwhelmed
Hi Stephan, I’ve been looking for a Christian therapist for a practicing therapist who understands OCD. I’ve signed up for a consult and I’m applying for a therapist role so I can help others. I’d love to work with you and your team!
Hello my name is Tawana and I use your app religiously, Chrissie Hodges is a very good friend and business partner of mine in the advocacy world and she connected us in another email. Anyway because your app means the world to me I added a link to it under resources for people to get to it on my org website, I hope that was ok because I believe it will help people in my community (African Americans) just like it helped me. Please feel free to go to my organization website mysisterskeeperohio.org under resources and let me know your thoughts.
Thank you 💖
Hello Stephen! My name is April. I'm a fifty year old single female. Can't believe I recently turned fifty! But forget that. 😳 I'm new to this wonderful platform. I'm also very grateful to you for starting it. 😁 I'll go into much more detail about myself and the OCD/ADHD that I deal with on a daily basis. I'm so glad to be here.
Thank u
Does anyone have OCD/intrusive thoughts about breathing/not being able to breath? I just want to know I’m not the only one.
Meeeee bigtime
@I’m not my OCD Has anything helped?
@KWeber Just ignoring it .. it will go away and when it comes back remembering that it is just a random thought .. but also knowing that anxiety makes it hard to breathe as well
@I’m not my OCD Thanks
My 22 year old sin agreed that if I find him a therapist he would participate in virtual sessions. We live in New Jersey. His intrusive thoughts sound a lot like yours. All mental and I can’t watch him suffer any more. Can you recommend a male therapist who can relate and help him learn ways to manage the OCD, please?
Correction, son
Hi! I would recommend calling NOCD for their informative call to see what options are available for you!
Yes call them and they can help find someone in your area!!!! I give you a lot of credit for helping your child out!!!! It will change his life!!!
I have POCD and I am struggling to understand false memories. Could someone help me understand? I always review my past, trying to find proof that what I’m dealing with is real and not OCD. I become so afraid because I remember something that I know did not happen but my brain tries to convince me that it did. It is so stressful.
Just remember it’s your ocd searching for certainty! We get latched on to a thought bc our brain gets stuck and won’t switch gears “Brain Lock” by Jeffrey Schwartz and we get fixated on did this really? Oh my gosh did I really want that to happen or am I that type of person, did I really do that? We attach emotions and meaning to thoughts as though they are real or true when they are just thoughts. Instead of being able to let the thoughts come and go as just thoughts. I struggle with trying to figure it out. I’m trying to learn with my therapist here at NOCD to not have to figure it out and say maybe maybe not and sit with the uncertainty. Have you tried ERP for that scenario.
@jc61 Thank you for responding to me. I have tried to sit with the uncertainty. For a moment I am able to move on from it and then the next second I am saying “no I need to worry about this”, “I do not deserve to be happy because of this”. It really takes a tool on me. I am seeing a therapist with NOCD and she has taught me a lot about how to handle these things but right now I’m just struggling. I hope I can just accept false memories for what they are. I keep trying to convince myself that I did something horrible.
@Lovely_ky Hi… I think I understand what you mean. As someone who struggles with this I’ve been looking through my mind trying to find instances when I was younger or even just a few years ago where I had done something to cause the POCD. And sometimes I think I found something but its never legit or it feels like I’m holdin on by straws to some empty certainty. It doesn’t really make sense and even typing this comment my brain is saying I’m lying and I know I did something… ocd is scary. Hope that you can get through thid and get better 💛

This platform is really cool. Thank you Scott. I feel fortunate to be able to access care in such an easy way!
I'm concerned about intrusive thoughts as well and once they get in it's like they are looped on a reel to reel and with each pass seem to amp my emotions more and more even with blood pressure medicine my normal is anywhere from 175\95 to 199/100 😳and I'm 50!! I'm also working on my sobriety and trying to get my life back after suffering 8years of narsistic abuse AND I take care of my elderly parents round the clock with just a few hours of relief a month and I have a lot of catching up to do if I take it... As well as some chronic pain.. it is all ready alot of stress without my brain playing all the details ofer and over again... Because these thoughts are everpresent and I am trying really hard to work on myself and I AM aware of my issues and had been given no room for thoughts openions or behavior I would choose I have angry outbursts at my loved ones and say things to them in a hateful tone OR I BECOME defensive and offended at what I perceive as assumptions of preconceived notions that they have even though they have not actively been in my life for the last 8 years and really don't understand the thoughts that I am having they're listening skills are not great either all of this is leaving me incredibly frustrated and fragile and it's not what I want to be I asked for help with my addiction issues and then pretty transparent about what I used when I had slipped why it happened and kind of had in my mind what kind of treatment I wanted and when they went in a different route and didn't make me aware of the route till 5 minutes before we walked into the doctor's office got mad at me for having an emotional response that they caused by not being honest about the type of appointment that they made
Anyone on this site?
Yes off and on
I'm new and just feeling my way around. I'll check in again at another time.
Welcome
Wow!! Reading this hit right home. We have a lot in common Stephen. It’s nice to know I’m not alone. I feel I’ve been getting misdiagnosed with “anxiety” & it frustrates me so much because there’s so much more going on in my mind than “anxiety”. The thoughts you have are exactly what I’ve been suffering on my own for a few months now. & I’m so thankful that you made this available for me to get proper care, I appreciate you! I’d love to talk more if you’re able ☺️ Thank you so much!! - Isabel.
Im happy to be part of this however i am a south african citizen
Is treatment covered by Aetna in New Jersey?
This program is under out of network benefits for me. First I have to hit a high deductible before insurance will kick in. And even then I still have to pay a co-pay.
Does ERP work well for BDD?? Can the therapists provide other forms of treatment besides ERP, such as CBT or EMDR??
I have utilized EMDR and it was helpful in processing trauma! However I would say (from my experience) doing emdr also triggered ocd even more, as I was having trouble coping with the fact that I now know those traumatic events occurred, and they could happen again at any time.
Hi there, My 13yo starts his erp course on Monday, we feel he has “rumination” issues / exestential ocd , no obvious compulsions, he’s terrified when we even suggest that erp might mean accepting the uncertainty of the world not being real, how can we best prepare him to be open??? He’s not medicating, he does suffer with sadness and anxiety attacks almost daily now ...
Hi, my son has an upcoming Div 1 scholarships offers coming his way, plus he was taking ACT, plus finals , but then he had first time OCD LIKE symptoms, & then quickly dx as OCD friend of family doctor ie psychiatrist , we need help asap. Stephen if you can send info to me in order to start your service @ Jobs12356@gmail.com. thankyou so much.
Hi! I recommend calling NOCD for their informative call to get started!
Thank you!!!
Thought you might be interested in reading this.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, Stephen. I have my first appointment with one of your NOCD therapists on June 1st. I think that the texting ability is a great feature of your app; however, it has caused me pause. My therapist has been texting me before our first appointment, and every time I get one from him, I have a lot of anxiety. We have had many conversations, and I have felt no empathy fit what I’m going through. I know there’s a fine line between reassurance-seeking and empathy, but lack of empathy is a trigger for me. It would be nice to hear something like, “it’s terrible what you’re going through, but I will help you get your life back. We’re going to use ERP, and although it’s going to be hard work, I’m gonna be there for you.” He just sent me a link to an article about “what is ocd.” It could be my ROCD, but at this point, I don’t feel like he’s the right therapist for me - even though we haven’t actually met yet. What are your thoughts?
I had a very similar experience and more with my first NOCD therapist. I requested a change. Had intake with new one she seemed empathetic at least lol hopefully this one is a better match...
Hi! Thanks for the app! I'd like to ask is there an opportunity to have a session with a therapist if I'm not a USA resident?
Is therapy available in the uk?
It is!
Yes , we live in London and my son is getting treatment through here.
Hi @nocdadvocate . How cost ERP treatment? Is possible in Europe? Thanks
Has anyone had any luck with medication for their ocd?
nope
Lamictal will numb you a bit. Theres no cure
Im in minnesota. My insurance wont pay for the therapists on this app. But im desperate. Do any of the therapists offer sessions off this app?
First post- I have suffered from nonstop intrusive thought patterns my entire life. Revisiting the anniversary of my fiancée death has completely spun me out of control and my health is declining
Thank you very much, Steven
Hello, I live in Ontario, Canada. Just outside of Toronto. Is there any sort of help for me here?
Did you try psychology today and minimize search for ocd? Also-you can go through your insurance company ans do a search?
Europe?
Does Texas have NOCD with insurance yet? Aetna specifically? :/
Hello Can i avail services from a therapist? I'm from india.... and there aren't any ocd specialists here
Any chance that Hawaii might be opening up soon? Thank you!
Why don't you start it in India can we discuss about it I will arrange the funds
Where are the therapy prices listed? Surely these Tele sessions aren’t free!
Another question, I live in Australia. I think I remember reading in an email that I can now access Tele sessions from here?
Por favor arranjem Cura! Please!
I've heard lots about CBT and this is the first time I hear abt ERP. Which is the best recommended. Why do many therapists insist on CBT?
Because they are not specialized in OCD like the NOCD therapists. CBT can make your ocd worse it definitely did for mean talking about things trying to figure out why I couldn’t figure it out. So thankful for my therapist who has helped me soooooo much and so much more quickly this time.
need more information
Why therapist are not available outside us uk or canada. I can't afford therapist in my country there are no one who has specialized in ocd thepray I hope we can get access too
Thank you. I’ve been suffering since I was four and I need something like this.
Stephen smith, I downloaded this app as an adjunct to the cbt we are starting next week with my 6 year old daughter. She is showing signs of intrusive thought ocd like you reported you struggled with. I am eagerly searching for different methods of helping her quiet her intrusive thoughts. Are there any resources for examples of erp plans for various triggers?
Hi all, just curious, with the free text support how long is the average time until therapists respond. Is it once a day, or once a week? Thanks much!
Questions: 1. The app says NOCD is working on getting set up to accept Carefirst in Maryland. Any idea of the timeline? When will my insurance be accepted? 2. How does the level of care that the NOCD program provides compare to IOP?
It would be lovely if access to online therapy was accessible worldwide, since it can be done via video call. This would help a lot of people.
Any erp in Michigan?
I really want to get better for the sake of my family. I don’t even feel comfortable being along with myself or my sister and brother. It makes me feel so sad and praying and hoping this therapy works. I really just want a normal life.
@Europe2018 Please never give up!! Many people Conquer this with ERP it is so hard but fighting this already for as long as you have and with such little support means YOU ARE STRONG! You will be strong enough, even if OCD trys to convince you otherwise do not let it win because you care SO much and people who have this care so much thats how I know and why we want certainty so bad that we wont do others harm etc. That means you are important. Dont forget it even if your tired and alone you WONT be forever if you keep fighting and reaching out in healthy ways for help and support from not just others also from YOURSELF you’ll eventually get it and grow.
Is there any possible help in cyprus?i suffer from sexual obsessions and it changed lot of themes the last 10 years from sexual orientation to attraction to family members even kids and animals and im really suffer abd sometimes other obsessions that havent nothung to do with sexual content but the things that haunting me most and killing me are sexual obssesions..my mind is trained the last 10 years after a trauma to stuck on ideas without meaning and it killing me.. It's not open to Nigeria, I am a Nigerian and I discovered today through a post exactly what is wrong with me. I had always wondered, we do not have access to mental health treatment in this country. If you are suffering from mental health in Nigeria they see you as a mad man on the street. I am a photographer and photography is the only tool I have been able to use to express my thoughts, fears and anxiety, even with that I can't totally declare it's me, it has to come as a story through my subjects.
Are there any rescources which are accessible for people living in the UK?
Thank you!
Hello, thank you for sharing your story with us. Do you offer sessions to Puerto Rico, US commonwealth?
My son is 8 years old and I believe he has OCD. I have it, his brother has it and his grandfather has it. He keeps ticking with facial movements and he vocalizes frequently too. Do we need to see a psychiatrist to confirm dx? Also could he benefit from this kind is intervention that you offer here?
Is there any help in india, i am looking forward to your answer. Love your work and want to help anybody if i could in future just like you.
I'm not officially diagnosed but I suspect that I have at least mild OCD with my GAD. I'm overwhelmed and worried about the ocd being on my medical records what is the cash cost of this? I'm in therapy already for GAD. But something is missing.
Hi cat person, meow! I hope you can figure this out. The therapists will help you !😻
Is therapy offered in India. I would love to join it
I'm in England can any one talk or teach me something to help me stop thinking my girlfriend is or has cheated on me. Also so could my 1st ever gut instinct be wrong?
Hi am finding it very difficult to arrange appointments
It should not be hard. I got a new therapist and he is soooo much better
The therapist sometimes books without confirmation or does not respond for days just providing feedback maybe a better scheduling system?
Hi there! Have you reached out to care@nocdhelp.com about this? They will definitely want to know about your experience and help resolve any issues.
How can we help patients on disability benefits bc of severe OCD on Medicaid and Medicare who need help the most yet denied
Hi can someone tell me which insurance companies are accepted with this program? I can’t afford it with mine and was wondering if there was a better insurance I could get to cover my treatment?
Hi there! I would email care@nocdhelp.com.
Thank you
Can someone tell me how I reschedule my NOCD virtual appointment? Or perhaps there is a link someone has that will take me to the page to cancel/ reschedule? Just starting this process and not sure what the protocol is. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
Msg the therapist
What kind of support can someone who is not in your region of operation get? This is so hard!
Do you accept Medicare with United insurance supplement in Missouri?
Thanks, Stephen. I myself had a horrible onset of OCD in February. I have been struggling since. I didn’t even know it was a condition until my mind was being so “weird” that my mom began to research. I now understand why I had trouble back in school days and at other times with worries or perfectionism. However, I had never experienced anything like the intrusive thoughts and feelings that came in February. Now the OCD has morphed a bit, but I still have it in a major way. I am finding it hard to find a Christian therapist who can serve someone in Wyoming. I see only one therapist on this platform who serves Wyoming. Do you know of the personal faith of any therapists on this platform?
You have to let your religion go man and God will find you after you get well. Trust me as someone with OCD.
How can we help patients on disability benefits bc of severe OCD on Medicaid and Medicare who need help the most yet denied?
<3
Stephen - is NOCD available for people in the UK?
Yes it is available in the UK read my comment above yours.
Has anyone done TMS and has it worked
Does anyone else obsess over co workers trying to push you out of your job??
There are lots of videos on utube that explain about OCD and how you can do ERP yourself starting slowly, might be worth taking a look if you havent already. Plus there are lots of books out there two one you may want to try is "Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts" by Sally N Winston and Martin N Self. Have you tried signing up for the nocd support groups I think they are open to all countries they are done over zoom, as you are on here they are on the app, they have helped me allot getting to meet other people in the same boat.
@Europe2018 When I meant therapy I meant the support group sessions that are free not actually therapy sessions sorry that wasn't very clear.
If you live in Canada, you can only have access to therapists if you live in Ontario?
Haley please read
i love this
Good Evening Is Texas open for this therapy? Thanks
It is yes!
I need you guys
Hi my therapist quit mid therapy and she told me I would be reassigned, It never happened and now I am going thru a tragic event in my life can you please help find a new therapist fa ir me?
Hi - I’m sorry that happened! I would definitely recommend emailing NOCD directly to explain your situation and get assigned to another therapist.
Hi there! Was it a NOCD therapist? You can email care@nocdhelp.com or call +13127666780.
Stephen Smith I read your fundraising series B news. When NOCD is going to be available in India?
Hey everyone, my name is Stephen Smith and I’m the Founder and CEO of NOCD. I also have OCD, which is why I founded the platform. Specifically, I have “intrusive thoughts OCD”- relationship-based, sexual, and religious thoughts that made me at one point question many fundamental elements of my character. Although google searching for answers to my thoughts was my most noticeable compulsion, my compulsions were mainly mental, where I would reassure myself, mentally review past events, pray, and even check my body for different sensations. Since I didn’t suffer with the “standard symptoms”, I ended up getting misdiagnosed 5 times which caused me to get really severe, drop out of school, and become housebound. While housebound, I started searching my thoughts online which led me to realize that I had OCD. Then, when searching for evidence-based OCD treatment, I stumbled upon exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy. Although ERP is extremely effective (about 80% of people with OCD see a significant reduction in symptoms after going through treatment), there was only one therapist in my area who specialized in it. She had a 7 month wait list and charged $250 per session- making the care pretty much inaccessible for me. I got lucky though since my mom, who was desperate at the time to see me get better, found money from a family friend to pay for my treatment. She also called the clinician and begged her to get me off the waitlist. If it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be here today. After doing ERP with the provider for 12 weeks, I ended up getting better- so much to the point where I was able to go back to school, finish up my football career (I was a college quarterback) and eventually complete my degree. Because I managed the OCD fears by accepting the uncertainty behind them (a core principle behind response prevention), the anxiety over time went away, and the thoughts decreased in frequency as well as in severity (since they didn’t really matter to me anymore). After that happened, I ended up returning back to normal pretty much- feeling as good as I did before my severe OCD onset. That’s when I started pondering the question, “if OCD is so treatable with a good ERP therapist, then why isn’t treatment more accessible to people going through the condition?” It’s a question I’m sure many of you are currently asking or have asked before. Now to the good news....There is no more need to ask that question. Now inside of NOCD, you can do live, face-to-face therapy sessions with a licensed therapist who specializes in treating OCD using exposure and response prevention (ERP). After signing up, all you need to do is open up your phone or laptop and start the session with the ERP therapist. It’s all video-conferencing. It’s the solution that I always wanted when I was going through treatment, so I hope you can find value in it if you are suffering- especially those who are stuck on the waitlist or who live hours from care. Anyways- if you have questions about doing ERP therapy with a NOCD telehealth provider or with another therapist feel free to ask them here. I will definitely give you the pros and cons. Much love!

Much love!
Hi! My name is Mikhail. I have been diagnosed with OCD for a couple years now, and this year I started ERP therapy at NOCD. I first found out about Pure O from downloading NOCD's app and seeing other people post about their experiences with overthinking, fear, and shame. While I had been diagnosed with OCD before, I had never heard about Pure O, where the compulsions manifest themselves more internally. I was at a point in my life where I was isolating myself and afraid of the thoughts I was having all day every day. This eroded away my self-esteem and identity but the skills I learned doing ERP have helped me feel like myself again. I recommend doing ERP to anyone afflicted with OCD, as it has helped me train the mental muscles I needed to get back to my life again. NOCD specialists meet you where you are at and help you get better on your own terms. I have taken the opportunity to be an advocate because once I found out I wasn't alone with Pure OCD, it reignited the faith I had in ever recovering. Learning about other people's experiences and sharing my own has helped me live more authentically. I want to do anything I can to encourage others to recover as well, because I know it is possible and that this condition is manageable. Going through NOCD treatment invoked genuine compassion in me not just for others, but for myself, which is something I never truly felt before. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to me. I feel purpose in connecting with people about OCD and getting better together. Believe me, you are not the only one who has thought that crazy thing and then thought about thinking about it 17 more times until it impacted your behavior!
