I also don’t necessarily think distractions are a compulsion. I guess it really depends ??♀️

@MJocd I get it. I was struggling this morning but I did some activities I enjoyed doing and that brought me some relief. Maybe you can try that?

@giraffe522 It's really bad today, I was going ERP for it and it actually made it a million times worse :(

@giraffe522 This is what happened. I cant stop ruminating over it. I literally cant stop. I feel like I deserve to be punished for something that wasnt my fault. "Okay so I'm not coping well. Can someone just talk to me and make me feel better? I was doing ERP and I was reading erotica for ERP, and I came across a weird story on a safe website (literotica) that mentioned animals and stuff...It freaked me out. I reported it instantly because its inappropriate, and now I cant stop obsessing over it and whether I'm a bad person for coming across it? I was on literotica, and it claims to not allow anything like that and is a safe website that ensures every story follows guidelines. My brains bullying me over it. Obviously it was not in my control what I came across, and took control by reporting it. My brains telling me I'm a bad person and there will be consequences, and that I'm different from other humans :("

@MJocd Yeah I did ERP and it actually caused my anxiety and I thought I was doing it wrong, but then someone said something really helpful on this app. They said that ERP is supposed to make your anxiety increase and make you want to give into your impulse, but the recovery is not giving into the conpulsions, including mental ones. You feel better after you dont do anything about your increased anxiety.

@giraffe522 The whole point of the ERP was not to give into my reporting compulsions because I'm always trying to makesure everyone and everything is safe. But I ended up doing it anyway because I wasnt expecting to come across something weird/creepy:(

@MJocd I totally get your example. I’ve felt that way too. Maybe you could just distract yourself, and try and get your mind off of it. I know it is so much easier said than done. With moral ocd im constantly questioning if I’m a good person but we just have to try and move on I guess.

@MJocd Oh yeah it’s definitely hard. We just have to take it day-by-day, moment-by-moment, you know?

I’m not sure. I thought distraction was alright, but I think ignoring your OCD doesn’t help.

@giraffe522 Actually I dont know. I would have to think about it . But maybe letting the fear " eat you" is better .

@Jamarceline I sent out a separate post asking about if distraction is a compulsion. I’ll let you know if I get any helpful responses.

@MJocd ERP will usually make it worse. The goal is to sit with the anxiety and let it come down on its own, which eventually it will. I know it’s SUPER HARD!!! It’s OK that u gave into a compulsion this time, maybe you won’t next time. We all give in now and then. I have. The more we practice the better we get at the skills we’re leaning❤️
