What’s the underlying fear for you? I worry that I’m schizophrenic or losing touch with reality? I know that a common fear in OCD is that we are going crazy because then we don’t have a sense of control.

really it’s a fear that I said something out loud, but I was just sitting there and then my mind began making stuff up, it’s afraid I thought something that I’m not while saying that I love myself and not reacting , but I’m almost positive it didn’t happen because I have no trace of it ? I just can’t convince myself the lie seems real

How can you use your actions to show your brain that this worry isn't important?

Idk... that’s why I’m asking for advice

@catherinez Are you willing to tell yourself "I might've said it, there's no way to know for sure. I'm going to continue with my day like normal"?

@NOCD Advocate - Katie My brain just gives it so much significance because it’s something I don’t want to be and it triggers and makes me upset , like I remember just sitting there and panicking I don’t think I said anything but it’s like if it’s not true why should it matter I’m having trouble coping and getting past this

@catherinez Because OCD is at play. Any obsession is hard to let go of

@NOCD Advocate - Katie I’m still having some trouble, any other advice ?

@catherinez I would act as if the thought isn't important, despite the doubt being there. You use your actions to retrain your brain. If you want to treat the OCD more aggressively, scripts might be a good option

@NOCD Advocate - Katie the thought is something that I don’t want to be and it thinks since I might have thought that and didn’t react that’s it’s true and I can’t be who I am anymore ... obviously once I started overthinking I felt bad and terrified about it

@catherinez Thoughts are not reality. A thought is only a thought. It’s not good or bad. It’s how we respond to it that gets us upset.

@Breanna yeah I just keep imagining me thinking that and not responding... like I said I don’t think it happened bc if I were to think that I usually react, I don’t know if that’s good.. but what I was terrified about was me thinking that and not responding... but I freaked out after. I had no trace of it so either it didn’t happen or it happened and I wasn’t paying attention, this is making me feel so sick ?

@catherinez Continuing this conversation is likely to increase how important your brain thinks the thought is, not decrease it
